Chapter 1 Prologue

The door opened and Olivia jumped up from the seat. "Hello, Mr Steve. I was looking for the files I sent to your office this afternoon. Have you been able to make your decision yet?" She hoped he was convinced enough by her words because it was all she could think of at that moment. Alexander kept walking towards her. He had been surprised when he saw her in his office after six years apart. She was still so beautiful and he wanted to hold her. How could he have left her alone those years? Maybe he was blinded by his thirst for power.

"Have you found the document you were looking for?"he asked in a husky voice. Olivia knew this voice. He spoke this way when he was turned on. She had loved it about him, the low husky voice but no, she wouldn't fall for it again. "Yes, I have. I should be going now. Thank you and sorry for intruding." She made to leave but he was standing in the way. She took two steps back and sat back in his chair. "Seeing you yesterday reminded me of those times when you were my world. I love you, Liv. And I'm sorry I was a jerk." Olivia couldn't believe her ear. Things he had made her suffer. She wanted to tell him to go to hell but she knew she couldn't. That would either make him chase her harder or be wary of her. She decided to play it cool. "Apology accepted. Look, I'm over it already. We don't have to revisit those times," she stood up and made to leave again. "But I still think of them. Even before you showed up here. I still want you. I want to be around you. I want to show you my remorse. I want to love you and make love to you. I want to hold you close to me all night. I want to shield you from monsters. Please think about it. I'd love to be your man again, Liv." He stepped out of her way. Olivia took two deep breaths and started walking out. She didn't trust herself to speak. She wanted to run away from here because she knew she would fall for him if she stayed back. She took each step praying no one noticed her erect nipples. The lace bra she had on was not doing a good job of covering them. Holding up the file to cover her chest area, she walked into the elevator and pressed 5. She had to quit this job but first she needed more proof to the dirty deeds going on here. Getting close to him will get me those faster, she thought. But I would seem cheap and I don't want to be cheap. The elevator chimed and she stepped off it into her office floor. Making her way to her desk, she dropped the files and sat down. This will be over soon, she thought. A message popped up on her company mail box. She clicked to open it. She had been assigned to the CEO's office to replace his secretary who was taking a leave. Shit, she thought, now she had to share the office space with the devil.

"You're a creepy bastard." His eyes smolder me and his answering grin is nothing short of beautiful. Deadly. "Yet you hunger for me. Tell me, this appetite of yours, does it always tend toward 'creepy bastards'?" **** Widower and ex-boss to the Mafia, Zefiro Della Rocca, has an unhealthy fixation on the woman nextdoor. It began as a coincidence, growing into mere curiosity, and soon, it was an itch he couldn't ignore, like a quick fix of crack for an addict. He didn't know her name, but he knew every inch of her skin, how it flushed when she climaxed, her favourite novel and that every night she contemplated suicide. He didn't want to care, despising his rapt fascination of the woman. She was in love with her abusive husband. She was married, bound by a contract to the Bratva's hitman. She was off-limits. But when Zefiro wanted something, it was with an intensity that bordered on madness. He obsessed, possessed, owned. There'd be bloodshed if he touched her, but the sight of blood always did fascinate him. * When Susanna flees from her husband, she stumbles right into the arms of her devilishly handsome neighbour with a brooding glare. He couldn't stand her, but she needed him, if she was ever going to escape her husband who now wanted her dead. Better the devil you know than the angel you don't. She should have recalled that before hopping into Zefiro's car and letting him whisk her away to Italy. Maybe then, she wouldn't have started an affair with him. He was the only man who touched her right, and the crazy man took no small pains in ensuring he would be the last.
