Chapter 1 Betrayed

Xu xin stared at the crowd at a distance, her heart filled with despair.

This was her grandmother, old lady xu's birthday. Xu yan was elegantly dressed for the event, dressed in a white gown, she looked pure and innocent. With her arms hooked around Li Ming, she smiled as she walked, greeting everyone present.

"They look so perfect together"

"Xu yan is so pretty"

The onlookers whispered as they envied the perfect couple.

pleased with her granddaughter, old lady xu's smile was widely spread as she was delighted by the way people showered praises on Xu yan.

'whoosh'

The waiter next to xu xin deliberately poured wine on her dress, acting on Xu Yan's command.

At the same time, people turned their heads as they heard the waiter apologizing.

"Who's that?"

"isn't that the looser of the xu family?"

"Overshadowed by her younger sister, she must feel like commiting suicide"

Unfazed by people's comments, xu xin's gaze remained on her sister, Xu yan. With the way Li ming's arms was wrapped around her, Xu xin found it hard to breathe.

With a sad smile, she approached them and said " I see you both are happy "

Li Ming stared at her warily and warned "Not now Xu xin, Not now!"

xu xin chuckled darkly at Li Ming's words and replied "Not now huh? After choosing my little sister?!"

Shocked by what she said, people mused at how insane she was. Who was Li Ming? Li Ming was the only son of the Xue Ming, one of the most prominent figures in the city. What would he have to do with a looser like her?

"She wants her sister's fiance"

"What a looser, she wants to use him as ladder"

They whispered as they glanced at Xu xin with contempt.

Xu yan, angered by her sister's words decided to maintain her calm face. "Sister, what do you mean? I would never take whatever belongs to you" she said, her voice slightly wavering.

Everyone glanced at Xu yan with pity. Wondering why the heavens decided to give her such a sister.

"Ha"

Stunned by Xu Yan's perfect acting skills, she walked closer to her and said "Why are you pretending?"

Due to how close they were, people found it hard to hear what Xu xin said. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Xu yan dropped her mask and mocked "No one would want a looser like you"

Xu xin felt her heart twist in pain at her sister's words. After being abandoned by their mother, Xu xin showered Xu yan with love, care and affection, trying to fill the gap of a mother for her.

"Xu yan, how can you say such a thing?" she whispered, obviously hurt by what she said.

xu yan smiled as she saw the look of pain on her sister's face. As if that was not enough, She feigned a tired face and touched her head, slightly staggering. Giving a dark smile as she locked gaze with her sister.

Xu xin already knew what she was trying to do. The deed had been done already, there was no way to dodge it.

Li Ming ran over with worry written all over his face "Xu yan, what's wrong?" he pressed as he carried her in a princess style.

"I don't feel too good" she replied softly, obviously enjoying the attention she received.

Li Ming glared angrily at Xu xin and yelled "Do you have to behave this way all the time? can't you respect your grandmother!"

Xu xin ignored Li Ming totally, slightly shocked at how he raised his voice at her.

old lady Xu watched how her unfilial granddaughter wrecked her party and she felt anger surge through her veins.

"How dare you!" she yelled as her face burned in anger. "Must you cause trouble wherever you go?" she added as she gave Xu xin a dirty slap.

"Pah"

Everyone was shocked at how angry old lady Xu was.

"Serves her right"

"She deserves it" they whispered among themselves.

Xu xin stared at her grandmother in surprise, tears threatening to fall, "Grandma, you slapped me because of her?' she asked while pointing at her sister.

Ignoring her words, She yelled "Get out of here"

Pleased by the outcome, Xu yan had a smile on her face. Trying to calm her grandmother she said " She knows nothing, grandmother. Don't let her ruin your day"

"All the more reason she has to leave!"

As she wasn't welcome, Xu xin left the party under everyone's gaze as they wondered if she was crazy to come in the first place.

Xu xin walked across the street with mixed emotions swirling in her mind. She was always regarded as the 'Looser' of the family due to her inability to meet her father's high expectations. Despite her best efforts, she struggled to excel academically but it was it no use.

Feeling like a looser constantly belittled by her father and sister, Xu xin decided to leave home in search of Independence and a chance to prove herself.

On the other hand, her cunning sister saw the opportunity to gain favor with their father by positioning herself as the golden child. She went as far as spreading rumors and destroying Xu Xin's reputation to secure her own position.

And her mother? She let them ever since they were kids because she got tired of the he marriage. After 22 years of being without a mother, Xu xin believed she never had one.

Not letting everything that occured today weigh her down, she decided to head home to prepare for work the next day.

Meanwhile, In another part of city,

Zhang Lei sat on the couch, his expression unreadable as he puffed on his cigarette.

"Tell me, how did it happen?" He asked, his gaze piercing as he stared at the injured man lying on the ground.

"I only did what you asked me to, boss. I'm not a spy," the man replied, fear evident in his voice as he glanced nervously at Zhang Lei.

"Then how did they know my next step? How did they know I was targeting their company?" Zhang Lei's voice rose, anger simmering beneath the surface as he pointed a gun at the man's head.

Surprise flashed across the man's face at the accusation. "Thought I wouldn't find out?" Zhang Lei's tone was icy, his eyes narrowed as he locked gazes with the man.

With a single pull of the trigger, Zhang Lei silenced him. "Clean him up," he ordered coldly, his voice devoid of emotion as he motioned to one of his guards.

I ran with all my might, every fiber of my being focused on survival. Even as my knees were weak, I refused to stop. The injuries on my body throbbed with each step and tears welled up in my eyes from both physical and emotional pain. "Why's this happening to me?" I cried out in frustration. "Can't I just be a happy warewolf? Unfortunately, I got caught. "You're quite the fast one," a man remarked, his grip on my chin rough and unforgiving. "Don't you look familiar?" he muttered, forcing me to meet his gaze. Unable to bear his scrutiny, I averted my eyes, consumed by fear. I wasn't ready to die. There was still so much life ahead of me! "Haha! It's the werewolf that overheard us!" the scarred man exclaimed, as he recalled where he saw me. Forcing me to my knees, he continued his tirade, "You idiot, you've brought death upon your own kind!" His words were accompanied by a brutal strike, causing fresh blood to spill from my wounds. I bit down hard on my lip, stifling the urge to scream. I had endured enough pain for one day. I was tired of everything life was throwing at me. Maybe the Moon Goddess is calling me home to rest. "Kill me if you must!" I growled as I glared at him. Refusing to cower in the face of my captors. "Hahaha," he laughed along with his fellow companions. "She's a strong one," he remarked, his gaze intense enough to pierce through me. If looks could kill, I would have perished on the spot. "Let's keep her," he mumbled to his companions. "She would make a good trainee," he added, as he forcefully ushered me into their car. Exposed and vulnerable, I felt their eyes devouring me hungrily. A sense of dread crept over me as I worried about the possibility of assault. But then, what use was life? I had lost my home, my purpose shattered. Life seemed utterly meaningless, with nothing left to look forward to.
