LOVE, OBSESSION & TRAUMA

It was a hot afternoon. 1:00 pm or there about. Nora was laying unconscious on the bare floor by the road side with her long slender hair braided twist, she was wearing a pink silky gown with white flower designs. Some people were passing by the same road but no one dimmed it fit to see if Nora was dead, alive or unconscious, everyone just went about their business.

Not long a while, a young man was passing by like every other person, June is a good looking fair young man about six feet tall, full hair with an Afro cut, he had six packs and well muscular, he should be in his mid twenties or a little above that. He had walked past Nora's body about three steps away when he realised he had just walked past a human body, being a lady drew his attention more, so he halted and moved three steps backwards to be sure he actually saw someone's body, he crossed the road to the other side to the exact spot where Nora's body was laying unconscious. June became nervous, he didn't know what to do, he knelt down beside her body and bent his ears towards her chest at least to see if she was still breathing or maybe dead or unconscious. He was willing to help and at the same time he was afraid, he has never witnessed such before, he removed his black long sleeved shirt button down and began to fan the body, he was hoping she could just come alive, he is not a doctor, so he knew not exactly what to do, the best he could do was the fanning even though it was to no avail but he was certain he was not going to leave her body just laying there. After been puzzled for a while, he sought for help to carry Nora's body but unfortunately none was coming, No passer by, no bike, cab or tricycle not even a truck was passing, so June resulted to carrying her body on his shoulder and began to trek along the road, even though he had no specific destination in mind or even how to get there, the nearest hospital is about one kilometer away from the spot of incident. After about a hundred steps of carrying Nora's body on his shoulder, he saw a boy pushing some firewood in a wheel barrow. "Hello dude, please i need a favour to ask you, can I borrow your wheel barrow? I will return it in three hours, let's meet at this spot in three hours" June pleaded with the boy, fortunately the boy agreed to lend him the wheelbarrow, so he put down his firewood from the barrow " Thank you little bro. I'm so grateful" June thanked the boy and shook his hand with two dollar coins. Without wasting any time further he gently put Nora's body in the wheel barrow and began to push towards the hospital as fast as he could, luckily it was a tarred road. He nervously push Nora's body as he prayed in his mind for the come back of Nora to live even though he knew her not from anywhere. June got to the hospital with Nora's body on the wheel barrow, he pushed towards the accident and emergency unit, he cried for help "Nurse! Nurse!, please she is dying save her" the nurses ignored June looking at him wretchedly. I guess they must have assumed he couldn't afford the hospital bill considering the fact that he brought Nora with a wheel barrow. That's how people can be judgemental. June tried to approach two other personnel persuading them to at least hear him out and admit the unconscious girl, but nobody listened to June, he kept trying, until finally a matron more of a senior nurse from one the emergency wards came towards June and inquired what the matter was. June was about explaining while the while the matron checked Nora's pulse if there was any life present in her, June was nervous and scared he knew he might be in big trouble if the girl turns out dead "is she still alive?" June asked the matron expecting some hopeful response from her. The matron nodded negatively. "Please try again please" June knelt down by the wheel barrow holding the matron's hand and pleaded that she should check her again. The Matron seeing the desperation in June agreed and placed her stethoscope again on Nora's wrist, June was staring keenly with high hopes, expecting the matron to say something, she moved her stethoscope to Nora's foot, she checked the second foot and paused a while, after about thirty seconds in positive gesture "I think she can still make it, the matron affirmed facing June, " I could hear a few pulse at one of her feet, but its a seventy, thirty chance of reviving her" the matron concluded as they quickly rushed her to one of the empty beds in the ward, quickly the matron passed the oxygen tube into her nostrils and placed her on the life support machine and started necessary documentations "what's her name please? " the matron asked June " I don't know" June replied, in shocking surprise the matron looked at June and asked "isn't she your wife, or sister?" No ma. June responded " then who is she?" The matron asked. June had to explain the whole scenario, how he was passing by and saw her body laying unconscious and all. The matron stood astonished and commended June for his noble act and having to stick out his neck for something that risky. " She could have died" the matron added. " I know but I couldn't walk past her, I couldn't have forgiven myself if I did walk away" June expressed. " so what name do I document for her" the matron asked " use my name: June Maxwell" he replied. " so who will be responsible for her treatment bill and now she is even unconscious, she has to be on life support machine till she awakes and that is not cheap, this is a private hospital we don't run charity " the matron elaborated. With a loud sigh, hands at akimbo June's head was facing down having heard what the matron said. " how much are we looking at for the life support machine and other care?" June asked " say a deposit of five hundred US dollars for the first three days hopefully she wakes up within that time frame, then we can continue from there" the matron explained. June was dazed at the amount the matron mentioned to keep the unknown girl alive, he wiped his face from forehead down his chin, he dipped his hands into his pockets and could only boas of twenty US dollars. He pleaded with the matron to hold on to that twenty bucks and to give him some time to see how he could raise the money for the hospital bill. " you must be an overly kind a person for someone you claim you are not related with" the matron commended June for his noble and kind heart towards a total stranger. " thank you ma, I must run now to be able to raise some money and I must return this wheel barrow to the boy who borrowed me" June in a hurry asked the matron to allow him leave. "Before you go you should sign here" the matron opened the new case file of Nora with the name " June Maxwell" for June to sign for he is now responsible for her. June signed and and agreed to pay up Nora's bill, he also dropped his number with the matron invade she wakes up from comma, and he departed from the hospital with the wheel barrow. June was running with the wheel barrow to return it to his little helper. " its almost the time I promised to return the barrow" June thought to himself as he increased his pacing to meet the boy. Few minutes later June arrived the spot where he had agreed to meet the boy. Two minutes after the boy arrived and collected his wheel barrow. "Thank you little man, have this for iced cream" June thanked the boy and gave him and extra dollar coin for his noble kind heart to render such a help to him without hesitation. They both parted ways. June headed home with the thought of how to raise hospital bill for the unconscious girl, the boy also went his way with his wheel barrow.
