Chapter 1 The Escape

Mavis

"Get away from here!" Benard screamed, "You are not fit to be called a Luna. You cannot bear me a single child."

"Please. Please," I begged. "All I need is just one more chance. I promise I will make it right between us," I beseeched.

"Get away from here. I don't want to be killed the same way you killed your former mate."

Those statements made tears trickle down my soft cheeks. Benard was my chosen mate and my only hope for children. I never lived with Benard for love and care because he lacked such qualities. He only bathed me with insults and reminded me of my inability to have children with him.

I bent my head low on hearing that and wept bitterly. He threw my bag at me and asked me to leave before he called my father. I kept pleading and asking him to forgive me for wronging him, and then maybe allow me to stay with him for the night. He turned a deaf ear to my proposal and decided to chase me away.

My beseeching continued but his rage kept aggravating. He threw hot, dirty water at me and told me that he would cut my ears off if I still stood there. I left in tears and had no place to go.

I remembered my father. He was the last person I ever thought about. Under normal circumstances, I would never run back to his house for any reason. The memories we shared had always been filled with terrible predicaments. But I had no other choice, no other friends, and no other family.

I packed my luggage and walked down the bush path to my father's house. On seeing the frail wooden cabin, the one where most of my terrible memories lay, I exhaled exasperatedly and heavily. My stepbrother, Nathan, sat in front of the house reading a book. I tried to shield myself behind the trees in the dusk, but his visions were much too powerful to suppress.

"I can see you there, Mavis," Nathan shouted mockingly, "You can't hide from me."

I revealed myself from behind the tree. He had a closer look at me with his face boldly described with mischief. He shook his head from side to side and clicked his tongue disappointedly.

Nathan seemed older than he was the last time I saw him but he did not lose the desired trait he possessed. His definite jawline was more conspicuous than before, his beards were well-trimmed and shinier, and his eyebrows were thicker. He lacked the muscular physique his brothers possessed, and his hairline was fading due to ageing.

He was a couple of years older than me and the oldest among his brothers. He had most times never given any attention to me. He and his brothers too, had problems with finding a mate.

After Nathan had shouted, Patrick the youngest brother came out laughing. He, perhaps, wanted me back.

"Welcome back home, Mavis," Patrick said, giving a lingering look of disdain at me, "Having another problem with your mate? Or killed him again?

"Look, I know who you are. We all know who you are. We just need you to accept your terrible fate," Patrick said, smirking.

"Please, I'm sorry if I offended you, Patrick," I said quietly.

"You're already offending me, you bloody murderer. You killed your mate and your mother tried to kill us. You're lucky you weren't hanged as well," Patrick said.

"I didn't kill Jonah!" I screamed. I didn't know when it escaped my throat.

Steve, the middle child, the one who was the same age as me, came from nowhere and loaded me with a heavy slap.

"What right do you have to yell at someone like that in this house?" Steve asked. My hands were still on my cheeks as I faced down in excruciation.

"You better hope you'd not be sleeping here tonight," Steve added.

"She's supposed to be with an Alpha, isn't she?" Nathan asked, his eyes still peering at the book he was reading.

"She must go back to her Alpha. She doesn't have a place here," Steve said and spat in front of me, "And by the way, you killed Jonah. Now, you can disapprove of that and you'd not have a lung to breathe in filthy air."

Steve went inside in disgust after he finished talking. Soon after, my dad came out with a bitter expression.

"Where is she?" My dad asked as he came out. "No. No. You need to pack your stuff and leave. You are not welcome here. You must go back to your Alpha right now."

"Please Father, I have no place to go, Father, please," I begged, kneeling.

"I can never agree to such malevolence. Your presence reminds me of your mother who tried to kill me and your brothers," My father, Alpha Kevin said.

"She's not my sister," said Nathan, with a forced level of contempt.

"Is she the daughter of Madisyn woman?" my stepmother, Leah, who had been standing by the door asked.

"Yeah. The bastard daughter of the Madisyn woman," Kevin said, devouring me with his glare.

Leah walked up to me to give me a heavy slap but I held her hand because she was slow. She threw me a threatening look when my dad hit my head with a clenched fist.

I fell to the floor. Leah continued to grasp the opportunity and hit me hard on my face. I bled from my ears and my mouth in anguish. My mate's house might have been a better place for me.

"You and your mother tried to kill my sons and you think you can get away with it," Leah said, looking down at me and marching my head. I screamed for help but none of them responded. She pressed my head hard against the floor with her feet, creating bruises on my forehead and left ear.

"Ah! Ah! Help me!" I screamed, hoping one of them would come to my rescue. I shouted until I lost energy and my blood was everywhere around me.

"A malevolent jackass of utter redundancy," Nathan said and went inside. I knew he referred to me.

Steve kicked my stomach hard, while my father spat on me.

I lay there sobbing for hours, and bleeding. My mom had been misconstrued by my father's pack and was wrongly paid back with hanging. My father had been convinced by Leah that my mom was guilty of all sorts.

I cried and bled till midnight outside; they didn't let me in. I used my luggage as a support for my head and back, while the breeze blew heavily.

I was so active to the extent of being awake when the door creaked slightly. Patrick came out with a blanket and handed it over to me. I thanked him and rejected the blanket but he insisted on having me cover myself properly.

After so much back-and-forth argument, I agreed.

"Don't you feel warm now?" Patrick asked.

"I do," I said and leaned my head back on my luggage. I wasn't interested in the conversation and wanted my peace without them.

Patrick caressed my buttocks; I didn't feel happy and comfortable about that.

"What are you doing?" I asked Patrick, slapping off his hands.

"You seem to disrespect me all the time. Maybe because I'm the nicest," Patrick said and made a firm grip on my arms.

"Stop it!" I screamed.

"Why do you scream? Nobody's coming to your rescue."

"Please, Patrick. Please! Don't do this to me."

"Don't be afraid. You're not getting pregnant. You're just an infertile Omega."

"I'll give you the blankets back. Anything you want, Patrick. I beg of you."

"This is what I want. So, give it to me. Besides, that has been in the storeroom for so long and must have been infested by rats," Patrick said, pressing my head down and lying me down on my back.

"No. No! Please!"

"Shh. I won't take long."

I screamed again, but nobody came to my rescue. Everything had started to turn for the worst in my life. I slept on the floor with a thin and infested blanket, and a man two years younger than I am raping me. I wept bitterly after he had left, unwilling to cover my nakedness.

I must leave to find my life the next day.
