Karen's Point of View
It had been a hectic day for me, and seeing that I had to keep going until the day ended was overwhelming. I glanced at the time-4:20 p.m.
"No one is knocking on my door, so it seems like I have the rest of the weekend to myself," I thought.
I hadn't finished the thought when I heard a loud knock on my office door. "Oh no!" I muttered to myself, hoping no one would notice I was still in the office. I should have known better and quickly stood up.
My secretary strode in, looking at me. "Miss Karen, you have a court appearance in an hour."
"I thought I had cleared my schedule for today. What's this case about again?" I asked, taking the file from her.
"It's a case about a lady claiming she was attacked by a werewolf. Her car got damaged, and her insurance company doesn't want to fulfill their part of the agreement."
Little did I know I was in for a long discussion. I was about to respond when my friend Yolanda walked in. We both worked at the same firm.
"Hello, Karen! Please don't tell me your weekend hasn't started yet?"
I rolled my eyes at her. "You could say that. This case just came in!" Yolanda looked at me closely and then reached for the file.
"What's this? A werewolf attack? Unbelievable. But this is an easy case. Let me handle it for you!"
But my secretary cleared her throat, and Yolanda shot her a death glare. I knew refusing Yolanda's offer would insult her, but I didn't want to risk a woman not receiving her car insurance.
After a few moments of deep thought, I handed over the case to her, but my secretary was to supervise it. Yolanda quickly accepted.
When I left for the weekend, I went straight to the parking lot. In no time, I was on my way home, but my phone rang.
I lost focus for a few seconds as I reached to answer the call. When I looked up, I saw a wolf-like figure standing far ahead, but I quickly glanced at my caller ID and then back at the road.
The figure was gone. "What just happened?" I asked myself as I continued driving.
"Hello!" I said into the phone, only to hear my mother's voice. "Oh, my darling, how are you doing?"
"I'm fine, Mom," I replied, making sure to keep my eyes on the road.
"I just called to let you know that we won't be coming home this weekend, but we'll be back before you leave for work on Monday morning."
"Really, Mom? That wasn't what we planned."
"I know, sweetie, and I'm sorry. We promise to make it up to you, okay?"
I didn't bother responding as I pulled into my driveway and ended the call.
Getting home, I was greeted by the security guard, and my nanny was waiting for me at the door. Seeing her reminded me of my childhood-she was like the mother I needed back then.
"Hello, my darling. It's so nice to have you home this weekend!"
She waited patiently for me to park my car and walk over to her. I hugged her gently so I wouldn't crush her.
"Hi, Nanny. It's so nice to see you again."
I walked into the house, and the familiar scent reminded me of home. "Nanny, you don't have to stay with me this weekend. You should go home and rest. I'll be fine!"
"Oh no, it's my job to stay with you and make sure you have the best stay!"
"Not really, but I'd love to have the whole house to myself this weekend. My parents aren't coming, and I'll be fine!"
Seeing that I insisted, she finally left me alone in my room. I took out the bag I had been holding and started unpacking.
Among the items, I found the threatening letters I'd been receiving for a long time. This wasn't the first, and I knew it wouldn't be the last, but I still didn't care.
My goal was to bring justice, and I didn't need friends who were unlawful. My drama was finally becoming a reality.
At that moment, my stomach rumbled, reminding me that I needed to eat. I put everything down and made my way to the kitchen.
"Hello, Miss Karen. It's so nice to have you around!" the chef greeted me.
I smiled at her. "You can leave as soon as you're done. I'll manage on my own."
"Yes, Miss Karen!" she replied, smiling as she walked away. I loved the peace of the house and didn't want to deal with anyone's noise.
This was a large space I really couldn't tell if there was something my parent were actually looking towards having more than one child
I turned off my phone to avoid calls from the office and served myself some food. The house was far too big for a family of three, but luxury was something my parents loved.
As I ate, savoring every bite, the security guard entered.
"Oh, I forgot I couldn't send him home, even if I wanted to," I thought.
"Hello, Miss Karen, this letter came for you a few minutes ago," he said.
I frowned. "Really? How did someone know I was here so quickly?"
I collected the letter from him, and he went back to his post. I planned to open it after my meal but decided not to ruin the moment.
Once I finished eating, I opened the letter.
Dreading the moment as the sound of the envelope made such a loud noise, I wasn't
Bothered since I have received countless letters, including threat letters, so my mind was prepared for what was to come.
"Hello, Karen. You seem to have many lives, but guess what? We have a present for you."
Below the message was bloody different from the ones I had received before. My heart .
