Eliana is the only one who can save Caleb's inheritance else he loses everything in six months. ________________________________________ After helping him by agreeing to a contract marriage with him. He maltreated me and assumed I was a harlot. He pushed me out of the house and I got drunk and ended me innocently on a one-night stand with his brother who also was an Heir to the inheritance. Now I'm pregnant and he is hoping he is the Father of the child so that he can inherit the wealth. But he never treated me right! He needs to come back begging because he will lose it all!
I felt an overpour of water over me as I held on to the termination letter with me, the white paper whose description gives hopelessness. The office's fluorescent lights, suddenly felt too bright, too harsh, exposing me to my crumbling world.
"You're fired, Eliana," Mrs Martinez said just some moments ago, her look was fully concealed with anger. I will never tolerate someone who tries to seduce my husband! She shouted.
Seduced? Me? The accusation was so disheartening, it would have been funny if it was not crumbling my entire world. I hadn't even spoken to her husband more than three times in the past years. I felt hurt thinking about how I had dedicated my time to my job, how I handled it professionally, and always focused on surviving.
Surviving, the word has become my anchor word since my dad left when I was nine. Every penny I earned matters a lot. Now? Now I had nothing.
I stumbled out of the restaurant, The summer heat scorched my skin, making me feel more uncomfortable.
Our rent would be due in a week. How would I explain this to Mom? She couldn't work any longer after her shop got burnt down by fire.
I was lost in my thoughts, contemplating what I would do, I didn't see him coming.
I bumped on him splashing the cup of coffee he was holding on him. Papers flew everywhere, My termination letter flying in the air.
"I'm so sorry," I mumbled, scrambling to collect the scattered documents. While I bent down.
His deep voice stopped me. "Hey, young lady.
I looked up. I was spellbound
He was tall, impossibly well-dressed in a crisp navy suit that screamed riches and confidence. Dark hair perfectly styled, eyes that seemed to hold a hint of desperation.
"Get me a cup of coffee," he said, I looked closely knowing well I couldn't afford the suit I splash coffee on.
I still have some cash on me. I agreed to buy him a cup of coffee. He leads the way to the nearby restaurant.
He went straight to have a sit, while I got the coffee. I sat down watching him while he sipped up his coffee.
"Caleb Martins," he said, extending his hand. I felt how soft it was just like a tender newborn baby's hand. "I have a job for you." He whispered.
My eyebrow raised. A job? I was curious to know about it because I'm desperately in need of one.
"I need a wife," he asked bluntly. It will be a contract marriage with agreement and the pay is huge.
At first, I hesitate. While was busy thinking either to accept or decline. He dropped his card and left.
I make my way home. As I turned the corner into my street, my heartbeat raced. Two hefty men stood outside our apartment, pushing out suitcases and boxes. My mother, sat on the couch, tears oozing down her face.
"What's going on?" I asked, rushing to my mom's side.
"The landlord sent us packing," She sobbed." You knew he gave notice to pack out this week because we haven't paid his money now he's kicking us out."
I felt as if my heart left my body. Everything felt unrealistic to me. This couldn't be happening. I spotted
Our landlord, Mr Jenkins, watches as he orders them.
I moved closer to him "Mr. Jenkins, please!" I implored, holding his leg. We'll pay the rent, I promise. Just give us this week
Mr. Jenkins' expression softened. I've given you and your mother extensions before. You're always late." And that's why I hate lateness!!!
I took a deep breath, looking hopeless and helpless trying to convince him. This time it's different. We'll pay up our debt this week I promise, just please don't leave us homeless.
Mr. Jenkins hesitated, after some minutes then nodded, Alright, this week Friday. I won't repeat myself this week Friday if I don't see my rent, you and your mother are out!
I felt relieved as I exclaimed, thank you, Mr. Jenkins! We won't let you down. They left while I held my mom and led her inside she was looking so tired and weak.
I checked my bag and looked for the business card Caleb handed over to me. The description reads "Elite Enterprises," I rushed out of the house and made my way to look for it.
Stopped by a taxi and arrived at the sleek, modern building with a gleaming glass all over it. The polished marble floor and vibrant artwork look impressive.
Inside, I'm welcomed by the smile of a beautiful receptionist. "Welcome to Elite Enterprises. How can we help You?"
"I'm here to see Caleb Martins," handing her the business card.
She nodded, dialing a number. Mr. Caleb, your guest is here."
She ushered me to his office upstairs I kept wondering what the contract would be about as I stepped on each staircase.
Getting to his office, He was sorting some files while I sat in the meeting area waiting for him. Coming out to meet me I stand up.
"I'm ready for the job" It spilled out of my mouth never wanted to be that fast. Though I don't know what it entails yet
I hope I'm not getting into any trouble, even though I am I need to save my family.
