Once again, I encountered Lin Lang, the much-celebrated CEO, while I remained just a small delivery worker. After seven years, I looked up at this familiar yet unfamiliar handsome and unruly face, feeling stunned and flustered. He, on the other hand, was calm and composed, with a slight smile curving on the corners of his mouth: "Yu Jing, what a coincidence..." In this world, there are not so many coincidences; everything is meticulously planned. We both have another identity: he is a leader involved in organized crime, while I am an undercover agent.
When I met Kevan Todd again, he was the CEO everyone admired, while I was merely a delivery person.
Seven years had passed, and looking up at his familiar yet distant, handsome and carefree face, I found myself feeling both stunned and flustered.
He remained calm and composed, smiling slightly at the corners of his mouth as he said, "Cathryn Sutton, what a coincidence."
But in this world, there were no such coincidences; everything was meticulously planned.
Both of us had another identity. He was a crime boss, and I was an undercover agent.
As the door opened, I placed the delivery on the secretary's desk and said, "Lady, I'd really appreciate a five-star review!"
Then I turned to leave, only to hear a voice behind me, "Hey, you, stop right there!"
I pretended I didn't know who he was calling, and I didn't pause for a moment.
He quickly caught up and grabbed me, causing me to stumble almost into his arms. I kept my head down, apologizing repeatedly, "I'm sorry."
The next second, he steadied me, lifting my chin to make me look at him.
"Kevan?" Seven years had passed, and looking up at his familiar yet distant, handsome and carefree face, I found myself feeling both stunned and flustered.
He remained calm and composed, smiling slightly at the corners of his mouth as he said, "Cathryn, what a coincidence."
For a moment, I didn't know what to say. I raised the delivery box in my hand and whispered, "It is a coincidence...I, I have to deliver this..."
"Deliver what?" He was always impatient, grabbing the delivery box from my hand and naturally pulling me into his office.
His office was spacious and luxurious, with sunlight streaming through the large floor-to-ceiling windows, offering a panoramic view of the city. This building was renowned as the most prestigious building in the city, and his office was located on the best floor. Even the smallest ornament on his desk was a testament to his status and position, clearly reflecting how things had changed.
Now, he was the CEO of Todd Group, a well-known figure in the city, while I was just a mere delivery person. The disparity in our statuses made things undeniably awkward.
He lit a cigarette, casually sitting on the desk, blowing a smoke ring as he glanced at me and then at the delivery box on the coffee table, his expression and tone somewhat disdainful.
"What happened? Why are you doing this?"
I nervously tugged at the hem of my shirt, unsure how to answer.
He immediately followed up, "Didn't you get into the Police Academy? What are you doing now? Role-playing? Experiencing life? Undercover work?"
A barrage of questions left me increasingly embarrassed. He was always like this, never considering others' situations or difficulties, speaking bluntly, especially with me.
I quietly replied, "I dropped out."
I didn't want to continue facing him, or rather not knowing how to face him, so I picked up the delivery box from the coffee table, ready to leave.
But he seemed to predict my move, grabbing my hand before I could leave. With a smile, or perhaps a bit gloating, he looked at me and said, "Dropped out? Who was it back then that urged me to study hard? I thought you were going to be a rising star in the police force."
Of course, it was me, a spur-of-the-moment decision.
We were middle school classmates. I was short and studious, always sitting in the front row, while he was tall, never studied, and always slept in the back row. Although we were in the same class, we had never spoken a word to each other. We were essentially strangers.
Until one day, he asked to borrow some money from me. Saying "borrow" sounded polite; in reality, he was just demanding it, and I was fully aware he wouldn't pay it back.
