"I, who am neither married nor have a girlfriend, suddenly found myself with a wife! The key point is... this wife is actually a deceased... late wife..."

Chapter 1 A Deceased Wife I Never Met

That morning, I received a phone call.

The caller claimed to be from the police station.

After confirming my identity, the caller directly asked me to go to the local police station to collect the belongings of my deceased wife-my "deceased wife"!

I couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of the call.

Were scammers these days really this sloppy?

I meant, I didn't even have a girlfriend, let alone a wife!

And now they were telling me I had a "deceased wife"?

After mocking the caller for their lack of professionalism, I decisively hung up and blocked the number.

However, the matter didn't end there.

That afternoon, administrators of the neighborhood in which I lived and local police officers came to see me.

To my surprise, they were also talking about me collecting the belongings of this so-called "deceased wife."

Not only that, but they also sternly criticized me for concealing my marital status.

I was stunned!

I truly wasn't married!

This so-called "deceased wife" must be a mistake!

Yet, under the repeated insistence of the local officers, I went to the City Criminal Police Division with a sense of unease.

I was greeted by a young officer, Officer Thomson.

From his voice, I recognized him as the person I had sarcastically accused of being an unprofessional scammer that morning!

Fortunately, he didn't give me a hard time or anything. Although his attitude wasn't warm, it wasn't impatient either.

I quickly explained that I wasn't married.

Officer Thomson then presented a marriage certificate and a couple photo. It not only had my name, birth date, and ID number, but even the photo was unmistakably me!

How could this be possible?

Yet, the marriage certificate was right there in front of me.

I looked again at the woman next to me in the photo.

She was a sweet-looking woman with short hair.

And she leaned slightly towards me with a radiant smile.

Although she was indeed attractive, I could swear I had never seen this woman before!

Through Officer Thomson's explanation, I roughly understood the situation.

These items were found on the deceased while handling a traffic accident case.

Since they couldn't contact any family at the time, the body had already been burn to ashes during the accident.

Now that they had finally reached me, the "family member," they wanted me to take possession of these items.

After explaining, he said no more.

The officer handed me an envelope, instructing me to sign for the few items inside.

In a daze, I signed and returned home.

Looking at the envelope on the coffee table, I felt a headache brewing!

What the hell was happening?

Had I suddenly become a widowed "married man"?

According to the officer's account, my so-called "deceased wife" had already been cremated and buried.

What kind of unlucky situation had I stumbled into?

Feeling completely exasperated, I opened the envelope again to check its contents.

Besides the marriage certificate, there was only a set of keys and a butterfly hair clip.

Looking at these "deceased wife's" belongings, I felt a sense of bad luck!

I shredded the marriage certificate.

These things came inexplicably and made me vaguely uneasy inside.

As if they were harbingers of something ominous.

I decided to throw them away first thing in the morning.

But who could have predicted that something even stranger would happen in the middle of the night?
