Chapter 1 Summer arrival

The sun-kissed streets of our small town were always a sign that summer had finally arrived. For as long as I could remember, I'd spent every summer at the lake with the Walter brothers - J.H., Aiden, and Jesse. Our summers were a blur of laughter, adventure, and late-night conversations under the starry sky. My family and the Walters were more than just friends; we were like two branches of the same tree, intertwined and inseparable. My elder brother, Griffin, was particularly close to the Walter brothers. They'd grown up together, exploring the woods, playing pranks, and sharing secrets.

Griffin was the glue that held our friend group together, and I often found myself getting swept up in their adventures. This year, however, everything felt different. Maybe it was the fact that I'd turned 17, or maybe it was the way J.H. and Aiden looked at me now - like I was no longer just their little friend Bailey. Whatever it was, I couldn't shake the feeling that this summer would be one to remember. As we arrived at the lake, the familiar smell of pine and sunscreen enveloped me, transporting me back to a time when life was simpler. The Walter brothers were already there, lounging on the dock, their laughter carrying across the water. Griffin was with them, tossing a football to Jesse, who was attempting to catch it while doing a backflip off the dock. I watched them, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. This summer was going to be different, and I wasn't sure if I was ready. "Hey, kiddo!" Griffin called out, spotting me. "Welcome to the lake! We've got a whole summer of adventures planned." I smiled, feeling a sense of belonging. This was my tribe, my family, and I was grateful to be a part of it. Little did I know, this summer would test the bonds of our friendship, push us to confront our feelings, and forever change the dynamics of our group.
