My dad yelled at me as I was running out of the house, "Come back here, Melissa, right now!"

They want me to be sent somewhere. Werewolves were isolated from humans and lived in packs. My were more than a hundred members in my pack, which was located in New York. With each other's assistance, we were able to strengthen our pack and establish our own restaurants, entertainment venues, and schools, becoming self-sufficient. For me, this was not just my house; it was my whole existence.

"I refuse to visit my aunt's home. I refuse to go! I shouted. I wasn't certain whether he heard me. My remarks were taken by the roaring wind, and I travelled a great distance. I didn't bother saying them again. They understood my emotions. I was going to remain here, in my rightful place. I didn't care if I was deemed juvenile by others. I was here with everyone and everything I loved. I refused to allow them to carry me away to a distant location where I would lose contact with my brother Sam, my closest friends Daniel and Richard, and of course Dennis, the guy I felt I was meant to be with. I could feel the familiar warmth on my skin, see my limbs extending, and feel the thick blanket-like layer of reddish fur covering my whole body as I ran. I quickly made my way to my hidden location after morphing into a wolf. When I was five, I discovered this location. My brother, who was ten years old at the time, used to drive me crazy by telling me how ugly I was and how no one liked me since they had discovered me years before outside of the pack area. I was just five at the time, so I cared!

You are a huge fat liar, I say. I yelled at my brother, but I was unable to stop the hurtful and frustrated tears from falling down my cheeks.

You're not the kind of sister I really am. Sam's youthful face twisted with rage as he said haughtily, "You should return to where you came from."

I fled into the wilderness after this altercation. I finally collapsed from fatigue at a clearing beside the cliff after what seemed like hours of jogging. I was enthralled when I woke up in the middle of the night to see a full moon staring down on me. The moon's radiance almost caused me to go blind, yet the sporadic shadows on its disc comforted me in a quiet way.

Looking back, I thought that day's moon to be mine, my soul's reflection and intimate buddy. After spending hours staring at it, I felt all of my hate and fury leave my body. I knew the wolves were coming for me at that moment because I could hear them howling in the night. I took off because I couldn't take the idea of having this area to myself, and I didn't stop until I knew I was far away, waiting for them to find me.

Right now, I was rushing to my haven of comfort. I always felt at ease there, as if I belonged. Another unsettling idea then shook me: Lovely Moon Goddess, leaving would also mean that I would be gone from my private spot; how could I ever handle it? How could I ever be okay with everything they were dumping on me? I just wanted things to go back to how they were. I detested change; I detested it utterly.

Stop, Melissa. "Wait for me!" my brother yelled.

I almost gave up. I knew he was concerned. As we grew older, our issues were resolved, and we became extremely close. His overly cautious demeanour was the one thing that bothered me about him these days. He was always trying to keep me away from all the other possible lovers, including Dennis, his best buddy and the handsome beta son of the pack. Since confronting Sam would follow any defamation and abuse directed against me, I was protected from all of that by the knowledge that the pack would not tolerate it. Nobody wanted to carry it out. Standing at six feet, ten inches, he was enormous and well-known for his very powerful blows. His quiet rage, which could erupt like a volcano in a matter of seconds, had already claimed a few pack members, particularly when I was the topic of discussion. Many would have chosen to stay away from me and him.

I turned aside; I had to get away from everyone. But behind me, I heard him transform into his big grey wolf. He would be able to reach me in a matter of seconds. Sadly, my wolf shape was pitiful—it was tiny, feeble, and sluggish. That was the way things had always been since I turned seventeen. My mother was the leader of the pack, and my father was its alpha; I never understood it. I should have performed better, since it was so unfair! When I was growing up, my parents came up with a thousand excuses.

Strangely enough, I was the only one who could shift back and forth wearing my clothing. I heard my brother put on the garments he'd been carrying in his mouth, so I turned my back.

"We must speak," Sam remarked.

Yes, feel free to fire away. "But know this—I'm not going anywhere!" I shouted in a furious voice.

Melissa, you must. That's the only option," my brother said, his face dejected.
