Chapter 1 1

I hear footsteps, so low I can barely hear them.

I turn to the other side of the bed, pulling the covers up.

How cold is this?

The sound of footsteps will increase.

What's happening?

I just need a few hours of sleep.

Is it too much to ask?

I heard voices and more footsteps and sometimes they passed in front of my door.

Apparently, I'm not going to sleep anymore.

Whatever happened, I better check it out soon.

Who knows it's not a silly thing and I go back to sleep.

Let it be something silly, please.

At least there were no gunshots, I got out of bed, as I'm only wearing panties and a tank top, I went to my closet and grabbed a pair of shorts.

I fumble a little to get dressed.

Besides being sleepy, I'm also curious to know what's wrong.

I try to be as quick as I can, but I've barely finished putting on my shorts before the door opens.

Devin showed up with a not-so-good face.

I'm even scared to know what happened.

- Luna, we have a problem.

- Devin says serious, when he's serious it's not a good thing.

- Or rather, a big problem.

- How big is it?

Deep down I wouldn't like to know the answer, because it's obvious that things aren't good and I won't be able to go back to sleep.

He took a deep breath.

- They stole more than half of our shipment.

- More than shit... - And they stole all the money from the central club.

No!

Not that.

- How much was in the club?

- 1 billion!

My God.

We had this large amount, because we had problems transporting it, but with the security it has there.

Devin can only be kidding me.

- Except with that money - Devin continued talking - We were going to use it to pay a part of the worms that would help us with next week's shipment, pay the other half of the border worms and the deputies that would expand our business.

I'm screwed!

Totally screwed!

Ferrada is little.

A lot of money lost and a lot of people to pay.

I sit up in bed taking a deep breath.

No chance of going back to sleep.

- Do you know who it was?

Devin smiled, but without emotion.

- Leon Morse

It can not be.

This time I look at Devin, pleading with my eyes for him to tell me he's joking, but no.

Devin shook his head.

Damn it!

Leon was or is one of the guys that gives us the most work.

We have headaches with the deputies, they piss off trying to get more money for us.

Leon is different, he's a tall competitor.

An enemy of the same level.

All care is little.

He hadn't shown up in years.

Because now?

Standing here won't help.

Maybe I'll ask this question myself face to face with him.

Who knows?

It's time for me to act, I can't and won't let this empire fall because of him.

Not even!

I stood up and faced Devin.

- Devin, I want you to contact Zac and let him know that I want to speak to him urgently.

- I start giving orders.

- I want Cory, in the central club with a lot of security.

I want that place to work again as soon as possible...

- We shouldn't do this, Luna.

I look at him raising an eyebrow.

I can't leave the club idle.

I need to get this money back.

- Time is money and I hate to lose money - I speak firmly.

- You look just like him.

Devin chuckled.

I just hate it when Devin or anyone compares me to Liam Frey.

I'm not like him, I'm better than him.

I get away from him and head towards the window.

It has a good view of the garden.

With the window open I feel a light breeze hit my face.

- No wonder he put me in my place.

- I see some security patrolling.

-He put me here to lead Atlanta.

- Look, maybe it was more than that, don't you think?

His voice had a slight teasing tone.

I lowered my gaze and refused to think about Liam.

There's no need to think about him now and never.

Not this way.

It's past, it's past and that's it.

It doesn't have to be revived.

- No!

I don't think – I turned to face Devin – I do my job very well and he recognized that.

So you better start making your own, Devin.

He raised his hand in front of his body as if surrendering.

- OK sorry.

- Then do as I say.

- Don't you think you should have more orders?

- He asked.

I looked at him without understanding - Luna, sorry for the joke, but remember Liam's orders?

He said it's to let you know if something big like this happens and you promised.

Shit!

I don't want Liam here.

I look hard at Devin, he just has to follow my orders and that's it.

I'm going to get that money back so fast Liam will realize what happened to me.

- Devin, Leon has tried to knock us down several times and we always get back up.

It won't be now that he will be able to finish us off.

- I laugh.

- He'll never make it.

Then carry out my orders.

Now!

– I emphasized the last word.

- Without discussion.

No guessing.

I never had to talk to him like that.

Devin and I were always friends and we had a brotherly relationship.

I can't imagine myself without him around and when he gave the possibility to leave with Liam, I almost freaked out.

Devin didn't seem to believe the way I spoke to him either, but he lowered his head and looked thoughtful.

I'm sorry, but I held on.

I'll leave it to apologize later.

We have a lot to do now.

- It's OK.

You're the boss - Devin says leaving without looking at me.

Pure shit!

I don't want to get into a fight with Devin, but calling Liam back isn't an option, at least not for me.

It's all going just fine without him here.

I'm just fine without Liam here.

Does he not realize this?

I took a deep breath and lay down on the bed.

Waking up to this news wasn't good at all and unfortunately I can't throw it all in the air and say a big fuck.

No, I have to sort this all out.

I'm in charge and these shitty types go to show how capable I am for the job.

It won't be easy, of course, but it's not impossible.

Now I don't know if I'm doing this to show myself that I'm good or to show him that I can do it.

Whenever Liam is mentioned my doubts start.

I already have to see Liam once a year because of the mobster-filled party.

It's enough for me.

Shit!

I'm already thinking about Liam again!

Liam has to stay in New York.

He has to get away from here.

He has to get away from Atlanta.

He has to stay away from me.
