Chapter 1 That Fated Day, I Met You

(Charlotte's POV)

Year 2013, 25th day of December, 5:30 in the afternoon.

"Charlotte, dear! Have you packed all of your things?" A voice of an adult and familiar man asked, travelling through my ears.

"Yes, father!" I replied. I went down the stairs with my luggage filled with my clothes and belongings, as they slowly paced towards the car.

It was snowing. Snowflakes poured down slowly, but in small numbers, reaching the tip of my nose, as some went to the ground to cover the earth with white blanket. Wearing my cold-protecting jacket, paired with comfortable jeans, winter gloves, and thick, dotted-pattern scarf, I paced my slowly to the car, as I glanced the smoke of my breath.

Lock!

I placed my bag at the back of the car. All the doors are locked and closed. Engines revved up. We went back home as our one week Christmas vacation has come to an end.

"Welcome to Fior City, the City Blessed by the Lake." A signage was written that I was able to get my sights on.

We have entered our home city. Just as we entered, the skyscrapers have reached on our city, though the foggy and snowy weather blocked the top of some buildings. The car took a left turn, and to my right is the Fior River, flowing out to the sea from the central lake. It was one of Fior City's greatest attractions.

As I was enjoying the beautiful sight of the river, something caught my sight. For a moment, everything around me seemed to slow down, as my eyes subconsciously focused on those that caught my vision. "Stop the car!" I yelled with a tone as if we just ran over someone.

"What's wrong, dear?" A voice of an adult, matured woman asked across the seat.

I replied to her question, "There's something I wanted to look at outside." I unlocked the car door on my right and took my step out, slowly walking and pacing to those people.

I have reached these people that caught my interests. I looked down on them, as they were sitting against a garbage dump.

There are two of them: one is a boy around my age and one is a girl that looked like his little sister. Their sight is a mess and dirty. They covered themselves under a torn blanket. Maybe they wore something that can resist the cold. I am certain that if my big brother would come out and look at them, he would probably puke in front of them without hesitation.

The boy slowly opened his eyes, lifted his neck up, causing the part of the blanket at the top of his head to come down, and looked at me. He tightened his grip on his sister, who snuggled at him and asleep. Poor people. Have they always lived this way?

The boy has long and messy golden brown hair. His hair looked like a furry or a lion's mane from far away. His eyes are of deep brown color, pretty much the opposite of his hair. The girl is barely to be seen from my point of view, but her hair is as clear as day. They're just of the same color as his brother.

"Do you have...any business with us, miss...?" The boy asked in such a weak and faint voice. I can understand it clearly though.

In a distance, I heard someone complaining, "Geez, Charlotte. Do you really have the time to do this? I still have a drama show I wanted to watch later."

It was my big brother, though I didn't pay any heed to his words. My focus was on this boy and girl.

I opened up my hands and offered it to them. "Come with me. You two," I said.

The boy was hesitant. I wasn't surprised, but I sure am glad his instincts are sharp.

My big brother went to my ear and whispered, "Hey. What are you talking about? You want these street and astray kids to come with us? I have nothing against them, but do you expect mother and father to accept them to the house?"

I whispered back, "I'm sure they're fine with it. Besides, I'll take full responsibility of whatever these kids trying to do or whatever punishment mother and father wanted to give me."

I have brought back my attention to the two. "What will you do to us? Are you finally going to free us from our misery?" The boy asked.

"I will not harm you. This idiot right here won't harm you either. None of us will harm you. I just wanted you to come with me because there's something I'm interested in." I replied.

I thought he would still be skeptical, but after a few seconds of thinking in his head, he moved around. He moved his sister to his back and carried her with his back. He wrapped their torn blanket around them and tied it.

"I will go wherever you want to take us, madame and sir," the boy said.

I never smiled, nor showing any emotion. I turned back and said to my big brother, "Big brother, go back to the car and tell them to go first. I will take a taxi to our house with these two."

My big brother replied, "Yes, yes, sure. But can't you at least refer to me anything else other than 'idiot'? That's rather harsh, considering you just asked me a favor."

"Thank you, big brother," I replied with a wink and a purpose of trying to provoke him.

He walked back to the car. It seems everyone there doesn't have any issue, since the car immediately went away a few seconds after big brother got in. I thought father or mother would try to protest or whatever. I wonder what big brother do to convince them completely.

I found a taxi and I went in. I'm at the front seat while they were seating at the back. They were really obedient and quiet.

After a few minutes, we reached House Aldea, which is my home. I paid the taxi driver, went out of the taxi with the two, and went inside.

"Follow and stick close to me," I ordered. The boy agreed with a "yes" mixed with a nod.

I took a look at him and his face surely yells amazement, as he glanced the house from one place to another.

I opened the door and was greeted by my parents. I asked for forgiveness for the thing I just did out of nowhere and not giving any further elaboration. They are fine with it. They wanted to see the people I brought.

"These are the ones that caught my interest, mother, father." I then went to them and told them my true objectives in a low voice.

They said their goodbyes and "do what you want" words, as they headed to their rooms. The living room became peaceful, only leaving me and the two kids I found on the streets.

I turned towards them. I said to them, "We'll start with the introductions first. My name is Charlotte Aldea. I am a daughter and the youngest child of this city's richest family."

The boy's in a bundle of nerves, as his eyes opened wide, a sweat flowing from his forehead to the tip of his nose, and his feet slightly shaking. "You...You're a family member of Fior City's richest family?" He asked nervously.

"Yes, I am." I replied.

He can't keep a straight face. His breath's getting heavier and heavier. "Should we even be here? Are you really going to end our misery? If you do, just please spare my sister," he pleaded, kneeling to the ground.

"Like I said, I won't harm you. Never. It's fine for you to be here. I have permission from my parents, just as you have my permission." I explained. I added, "May I know your names?"

The boy was still kneeling. He replied, "My name is Lyulph Lupinus, madame. This girl here is my older sister. She is Lovell Lupinus."

"Lyulph Lupinus. Lovell Lupinus." I uttered. In my mind, I thought, "Those are interesting names."

The boy asked, "What is it that you really want with us, madame?"

I took a short breath. I took a step closer to them. Then, I pointed to him. I said, "You, Lyulph Lupinus. Be my servant!"
