Chapter 1 Campus

On a mostly cloudy day with the sun trying to pry through the clouds, and shed sunlight on the campus of Bobwhite University. Many different groups of students gathered at their respective stalls trying to recruit the incoming freshmen into their clubs and social circles. The freshmen brimming with expectations of falling into groups that fit them. However, these naive freshmen were unaware of the true intention of their upperclassmen.

“Join the basketball club!”

“The drama club still have openings!”

“Want to be a cheerleader? I’m sure you’ll be fantastic!”

Numerous shouts continued to rain as groups tried to persuade the new comers.

Approaching the campus with a slightly already irritated expression, Ben Parker walked through the crowd uninterested in any of the recruitment stalls.

Ben was a handsome looking young man, although, due to his poverty, the way he dressed was always poor and plain looking. Today, he was wearing a black graphic T-shirt, rippled jeans, a pair of black Adidas, along with his black and red G-Shock watch his father had given him on his birthday.

“Hey, buddy would you like to join the poetry club?”, a young man asked Ben.

Ben only glanced at the young man with irritation in his eyes and continued to walk towards his class.

“Fuck is his problem?”, the young man said annoyed.

“Shelton, why are you trying to recruit that poor loser into our club, anyway?”, asked his friend Wynston. Wynston was a simple young man, who is ultimately just one of Shelton’s lackeys.

Shelton Jenkins was from a well off family and was a typical trust fund babe, who looked down on poor people or people he deemed below him.

Shelton, replied sarcastically, “ To look better than the competition of course, Wynston.”

“Ha-ha, just like you, well the girls in our club would most definitely think we look better than him. The gap between us is quite large after all”.

“Who was that bastard anyway, he don’t look like a freshman?” Shelton wondered.

“I think that was Ben Parker from my business and management class. He’s a sophomore, nobody who works part-time jobs to get by, though..”, Wynston hesitated before saying, “ there are strange rumors about him though. Nothing major just he hangs with local gangsters late night. No one knows why though.”

Shelton was taken by surprise, he was secretly planning to make things difficult for Ben since he ignored him. Learning this piece of information Shelton gnashed his teeth and curse Ben before letting the matter go.

Ben finally made it to class and put his head down on the table. Stared out the window and let out a yawn and slowly started to close his tired eyes.

Class would begin in twenty more minutes he figured that would be enough for him. Unfortunately, for him, ten minutes later there was someone shaking him awake.

Ben opened his eyes prepared to lash out at the person. He turned his head to find Brooklyn Palmer.

Brooklyn was a beautiful girl. Her smooth and flawless skin, her long pretty red hair, her plump breast along with her curvaceous figure. She was simply stunning.

“Brook?”, Ben was shocked to see her not to mention a little flustered due to how close she was at the moment. He asked, “What’s up, do you need anything?”

“No, not really. Although, I do have a question for you,” she said with a curious look on her face. “Why did I see you walking towards the Morningstar district last night?”

Ben was shocked but he didn’t dare show it, in fear of being found guilt of her claims.

‘How could she have seen me? It was dark and I had a hood on that could’ve been anybody. Surely, she didn’t follow me I would have noticed her. So how did she…’ as Ben wondered about this, Brooklyn gave him a slight smug smile.

“So it was you then, huh, Ben?” Brooklyn questioned again as if she was sure of her answer already.

“No it wasn’t me, I was home already. I went straight home after my part-time job because I was exhausted. Plus why would I hang out around the Morningstar they are detestable people.” Ben quickly denied her statement.

Looking meaningfully into his eyes, Brooklyn was sure he was lying, but, alas, she could not prove it at the moment. Because in truth she only caught a glimpse of him from the cab on her way home. She just barely saw a face and assumed it was him from the person body features.

Finally she says,” Mhm, if you say so then maybe I was just mistaken. But I do know where they hang out is quite close to your place so please be careful.”

Ben only nodded, sighing relief on the inside as he seemingly dodge a bullet. After the short chat the two then prepared for class to start.
