"Don't you think that skirt is short for you?" She says, changing the subject and taking another long hit from her blunt. Since when does she care about my clothing? Besides it's not like it's affecting anyone, so why does it matter? "Um, no. Why do you care anyways?" I ask suspiciously, while looking down at my skirt. It's not even short. "People are looking at you in there, and maybe it's because of what you're wearing," She throws her blunt on the ashtray that she has, and turns her attention on me staring fiercely into my eyes. "Why does it matter? It's not like it's a bad thing." I say, now worried at this point. I don't know what's going through her mind as she comes closer to me, again my back is against the wall beside the balcony railing. "It is a bad thing because it seems everyone in there wants to fuck you, and for some damn reason it's bothering me." Heaven says lowly, barely audible. ----- Hatred. Despite. Mixed feelings. Read to find out about Valentina and Heavens relationship, which starts off as despiteful, then turns into something pure.
Valentina's pov
"Valentina, despertarse." (Wake up) I heard my moms voice as she lightly shakes me, as I let out a small groan.
"Déjame, cinco minutos más por favor." (Leave me, five more minutes please) I say groggy, but my mom doesn't budge so she yanks the blanket off of me forcing me to to sit up.
She doesn't say anything but raise her eyebrows warningly at me. I sigh and get up to take a shower and get ready.
After my father was murdered, my mom and I had to leave Mexico and come to the United States. We didn't have much of a choice, since my fathers murderers were still out there. Now here I am in the United States in a new place and a new school, where I am alone.
Today is my first day in a brand new school and brand new faces. I'm fine with being alone, but I'm scared of the talks, the looks, and the thought of making new friends.
As I got out of the shower, I quickly washed my face and put on makeup. I scrummaged through my closet looking for a outfit to where. I want to look presentable at least for the first day.
I ended up picking out a long sleeve light pink body con shirt, showed a bit of cleavage, with light blue mom jeans finished with my black and white Chuck Taylor converse.
After I was done changing, I put my hair up with a hair clip leaving my front strands out. (A/N: honestly best hair style ever lol) I quickly unplugged my phone out of the charger and look at the time as it read: 8:05.
Shit I'm going to be late.
I made my way downstairs and greeted my mom with a kiss on her cheek.
"Eat something before you go to school, I don't want you starving." She says, passing me a plate of pancakes with the syrup.
"Thank you." I smile, and start eating the pancakes. I get full easily so I could only eat 1 slice and sometimes I don't finish it.
"Ya terminastes?" (You finished) My mom asks, and I nod grabbing my backpack and heading outside. I left my car back in Mexico, so I decided to just give it to my cousin since she didn't have one.
After a few minutes of me waiting inside my moms car, my mom came out and locked the door of the the front house and got into the car.
"Ready?" My mom smiles, and I sigh and shake my head.
"Everything will be fine. You know to call or text me whenever." She says, turning on the car and reversing out of the driveway.
I nod taking out my AirPods and inserting them into my ears. Music is the only thing I love besides my family. Music helps me relax and calm me down whenever I'm feeling anxious.
Maybe won't you take it back?
Say you were tryna make me laugh
And nothin' has to change today
You didn't mean to say, "I love you"
I love you and I don't want to
Ooh
Up all night on another red eye
I wish we never learned to fly
I Maybe we should just try
To tell ourselves a good lie
I didn't mean to make you cry
I was about to cry, but before I could my mom shook my shoulder & I looked out the window to see we were at the school.
"Te amo Vale, si necesitas algo por favor dígame." (I love you Vale, if you need anything please tell me)
"Te amo mas." I say, and hug my mom as I opened the car door and let myself out.
I took a deep breath and walked inside. Immediately as I opened the door, I felt stares on me.
I looked around and saw some people looking my direction, others didn't care because they were in their own world.
The school is really huge compared to the schools in Mexico.
They're small, but you wouldn't get lost. The only thing I did find was the office which was beside front doors of the school.
"Hello, may I help you?" A lady around her fifties asked, as I entered the office.
"Yes, um, I'm here to get my schedule. I just transferred here." I say with a nervous tone, and she nods grabbing some papers.
"Your name is Valentina Gomez right?" She asks in a southern accent, and I nod.
"Okay well here is your schedule. My name is Mrs. Duff, welcome to Eastbound High. If you need any help, please don't hesitate to ask. I'll show you to your locker and home room class." Mrs. Duff says politely and extends her hand out for me to shake.
I shake it and she grins, walking out of the office leaving me to follow her.
As I was following Mrs. Duff there was a cheerleader in front of me walking backwards, I tried moving out of the way but it was too late. She tripped and fell down on the floor.
"Watch were you're going loser." She says, looking at the floor trying to get up. She looks up at me from the floor. Wow this girl was gorgeous, her long blonde hair and her emerald eyes sparkling through me as I stared at her.
"I'm sorry." I mumbled, and she shakes her head.
"Whatever." She replies rolling her eyes, her friends from beside her helping her up from the floor.
I was going to reply, but Mrs.Duff interrupted me.
"Heaven, go to class. Stop messing around, I'm trying to show Valentina her home room class." Mrs. Duff says, crossing her arms.
"Damn aren't you going to ask if I'm okay? Rude." Heaven smirks, her friends from beside her snicker from the comment.
"Just go to class before I give you detention." Mrs. Duff says.
Heaven scoffs, and leaves the hallway going into what I'm assuming is her class. Mrs. Duff directs me to my first period classroom which was English.
My favorite subject!
"Here you are sweetie, please let me know if you need anything." She smiles, and pats my shoulder as she leaves.
My nerves started to get to me. I'm super nervous of what's going to happen. I slowly opened the door, and once I opened it, everyones eyes are on me.
"Hello you must be the new student! I'm Ms. Devin. You can sit whenever you like, and I'll get you a book in a minute." She beamed. I awkwardly mumbled a, "thank you" and took a seat in the back next to some girl.
"Okay guys, I want to put you guys into groups so whoever I name is going to be into groups. It's only for today so don't worry." Ms. Devin says, walking over to me and giving me a book: Hamlet.
Too easy, I read this book my freshman year of high school.
"Okay here are your partners, I'm not repeating them so pay attention."
"Jacob and Gal, Margot and Ben, Serena and Maria, Jay and Demarcus, Andrew and Fernanda, and lastly Gina and Valentina." (There's more kids, it's just too much lol)
Who tf is Gina?!
"Get with your partners." The teacher says handing out a paper with questions.
I didn't know who Gina was so I just there awkwardly, until a girl came up to me. The same girl that I sat next to.
"Hi, I'm Gina." Gina has mid-length curly brown hair with brown eyes.
She was wearing a white shirt with a slit in the middle and a black skirt covering her thighs with her stockings.
"Hi." I shy shyly and sat in front of her putting our desks together.
"Soooo where are you from? You don't have to answer that, just thought we could get to know each other. I barely have friends here." Gina says, scribbling on the paper in front of her.
"I'm from Mexico, I just moved here about 2 weeks ago." I say playing with my fingers.
"That's so cool! So, do you speak Spanish?" She asks, putting her pen down and placing it beside her desk.
"Yes, it's my first language. My mother and majority of my family speak it frequently." I speak, shifting from my desk nervously.
"That's cool, I've never met anyone that can speak Spanish, your accent is cute." She giggles.
"Thanks." I blush, my cheeks turning red.
"No problem! Let's get started on these questions before Ms. Devin gets upset." Gina says, grabbing the paper and writing down her name. -------------------------
"No way! My mom bought me one for Christmas and right when she start recording, I fell super hard." Gina laughs, as we walk towards my locker talking about the first time she got a hover board. Gina is super nice and cool. Honestly I feel comfortable around her already.
"I would love to see that video." I laugh, and she shakes her laughing.
"No, you would literally never stop laughing." She warns. It was time to go to to second period as my first period went well. Gina and I got a hundred and for once I didn't have to do all the work.
"What's your next class?" Gina asks, strapping her bag on her shoulder.
"Precal." I grimaced, as my worst subject is math. I can't deal with numbers and the subject is just hard, like why do they make things complicated?
"Really? Me too! It's like we are meant to be friends." Gina says and motions me to follow her.
As we we're walking to class, I saw Heaven the girl from earlier enter the class I was in.
"Hello you must be Valentina the new student, I'm Mr. Evans, please don't hesitate in asking me any questions. You can sit wherever you like." He introduces with a smile, the bell rang signaling that class has started.
I nod and smile back at him taking a seat next to Gina. Heaven sees this and walks in front of my desk with her arms crossed.
"You're sitting on my desk." I just stare at her in disbelief. This desk isn't even hers. She may be pretty, it she sure is a bitch.
"I don't see your name written on this desk, plus you were sitting way across the room from here until you saw me sitting here." I roll my eyes, sudden confidence bursting through me.
"Listen newbie, this was my desk before you sat here. I suggest you move and get a new desk." She says sternly, I just shrug and stay still.
I look beside Gina and she squints at Heaven angrily.
"You can't force Valentina to move, Heaven. She was there first so either deal with it or leave, it's too early to hear your annoying ass voice right now." Gina started angrily.
"Gina settle down, Heaven stop bothering Valentina or I'll kick you out of my class." Mr. Evans says while Heaven scoffs and sits in the seat in front of me.
Why did she sit in front of me? She can literally sit somewhere else.
After about 45 minutes of a boring lesson and me being lost in the class, the bell finally rang. I'm just ready to go home and sleep.
-------time skip to lunch------
Walking out of my 5th period class and going to lunch with Gina was a relief for me. I'm finally going to eat something!
"So how are you liking this school so far?" Gina from beside me asks, as we walk into the cafeteria.
"It's better than the old school I went to that's for sure." I chuckled as I admired the cafeteria.
As Gina and I walked inside the cafeteria, kids were roaming around trying to find a table to sit on.
"The popular people have there own table, so let's stay away as far as them as possible. Come on, I have my own table over here." Gina says, motioning me to follow her into a booth.
"Are you sure you want me to sit with you? I don't want to intrude or anything." I say getting insecure.
"Of course I want you to sit here with me. I don't have much friends, the only friends I do have are from the cheerleading team, but I got out because of Heaven. Since I'm not in the team anymore, the girls don't really talk to me." Gina says sadly, taking out her lunch box. I feel bad now for asking.
"Oh. Well thank you for making me feel welcomed here." I say genuinely, and she smiles giving me a piece of her sandwich.
"Don't thank me, we're friends now. I hope?" She asks hopefully, taking a bite out of her sandwich.
"We're friends now." I grin and Gina squeals excitedly. "Yay!"
