On Earth, there lived a youth named Yuichiro Soma, who was quite exceptional in both academic and physical traits. However, he considered himself much lower compared to his ideal self and was deeply attached to protagonists from various series, whether they were in movies, anime, manga, or light novels. He yearned to become one of them, but he also had a life he needed to live. On his first date, he stumbles upon a mysterious card that becomes a game-changing element in his life. The card presents him with a puzzle, and if he manages to solve it, he may attain something of great significance. This has the potential to completely alter his life. As he begins his journey on another world. A world of magic.
I found myself engulfed in a profound longing that had seemingly taken root within me, an affectionate adoration for those characters often labeled as protagonists, blessed with the formidable power of the plot.
This love extended beyond mere admiration and encompassed a range of emotions: envy, admiration, fondness, and an unyielding attachment.
These protagonists, found in various mediums such as stories, anime, cartoons, movies, fairy tales, manga, manhwa, webtoons, webnovels and light novels, came in diverse forms.
Whether they were arrogant, passionate, selfish, kind, or even evil, they all shared a common purpose: to conquer the obstacles hindering their goals, be it the fulfillment of a wish, attaining leadership, or the pursuit of an ideal world.
I marveled at the way they effortlessly overcame their adversaries, sometimes matching their opponents' power or even surpassing it with an unexpected surge of strength.
Occasionally, it was the very essence of the plot that propelled them forward, while other times they relied on their own abilities, tireless efforts, or extensive knowledge.
Reflecting on myself, I desired all three attributes: power, diligence, and wisdom. I yearned to embody the qualities I admired in these protagonists-to become an ideal protagonist myself.
However, what escaped my realization at that moment was the universal truth: each individual is the protagonist of their own life story. I, Yuichiro Soma, an ordinary young man in his early twenties, currently embarking on a job hunt, led an ostensibly normal life.
Yet, there was an extraordinary aspect to me-a deep attachment to fictional protagonists. Although I had excelled in my university exams and displayed above-average athletic prowess with minimal practice, I couldn't help but feel a profound disappointment in myself when compared to my idealized view of a protagonist.
I yearned for more, a thirst for power that exceeded my own perceived above-average capabilities. I craved the qualities of a remarkable protagonist, as they deserved a unique and exceptional ability, one that was exclusively their own. The idea of this ability had taken shape within my mind long ago, during my high school days. Although it's quite childish.
But leaving all that aside, today was an auspicious day for me. My girlfriend Hanakawa Sakura and I were going on our very first date. At first, I had thought of her as a typical girl who was bullied, but man, I was so wrong.
She was a special girl. I found out about it when I helped her from bullies without revealing my identity. However, she could pinpoint that it was me and said, 'It's unnecessary; I would appreciate it if you stopped doing something insignificant.' She bowed to me and went away.
After that, we started interacting with each other slowly due to that meeting, and our relationship progressed from mere acquaintances to what it is today. So, I was happily looking forward to our date, but who knew such a surprise could be waiting for me.
I found a small card on the ground with the term Sensumo on it. I flipped it over, and it said, 'Whosoever comprehends the veritable essence concealed within the term may find themselves bestowed with the honor of becoming such.'
'What prank is this? Sensumo, huh! While the name sounds cool, I can't afford to waste my time on this. I have a date.' I thought as I continued to move forward. But suddenly, as if a lightning bolt had shocked a person, the same case was now with me.
"T-This isn't Japanese nor English. How the hell did I comprehend it? Sensumo. I see, interesting. Let's decipher it and see if something happens. But not now, later. I can't afford to be late." As I kept the mysterious card in my pocket, in which a completely unknown language was written that I somehow understood.
And I walked towards the destination, which was a normal cafe. Well, this was the best I could afford since my parents are already dead. Maybe that's the reason I am a little bit more capable than others. As one says, tough situations create strong men.
In the midst of walking, I once again recalled the phenomenon that occurred to me a while back. Could it be that this world wasn't what it seems to be on the surface? This isn't normal. Also, this term Sensumo, it seems to be a title.
As I touched the card in my pocket which stated, you could become one if you could find the meaning behind the term. Almost as if it is an important title of a hero who will save the world from its potential danger. Sigh. Too little information.
Soon I reached the cafe. As usual, this cafe looked more attractive than other places. Nestled amidst a tapestry of serene surroundings, the wooden cafe exudes an inviting charm. Sunlight dances through intricate lattice windows, painting warm patterns upon polished wooden floors.
The gentle hum of conversations mingles with the earthy aroma of freshly brewed coffee, as patrons bask in the rustic embrace of wooden beams and furniture, cocooned in an ambiance that whispers tales of comfort and connection.
"Hey, Soma." As I was enjoying the captivating aura of the cafe, she called out to me.
"Ah, Sakura. As always, you look beautiful," I complimented.
She giggled and returned the compliment, "Yeah, thanks. You too look handsome. Let's go inside."
"Yeah, let's go," I said, feeling very happy.
After sitting at a free table, a waiter came to take our order. After looking at the menu, we decided on Matcha Latte for me along with Katsu Curry, while she ordered Kitsune Udon and coffee. The waiter then bowed and left. In the meantime, we chatted to get to know each other.
Soon, our order arrived, and we started conversing again as we enjoyed the delicious food served by the cafe.
"I didn't know you were the type to watch anime, you know," she said as I revealed my hobbies.
"Yeah, is it weird?" I asked, to which she replied,
"No, no. It isn't, and I've watched a fair amount of it myself."
"I see. That's great. Maybe we can watch our favorite anime together once in a while. By the way, what are your favorites?" I proposed the idea and asked her.
"That would be great. As for my favorite, I really liked 'I Want to Eat Your Pancreas.' What about you?" She answered and asked.
"Hmm. Well, Classroom of the Elite, Sword Art Online, Oregairu, and Naruto, I guess. To be honest, I almost like all genres," I said, and she continued, "I see. I know all four of them, and all of them are my favorites. Coincidences can be freaky, right?"
"Haha! Yeah." Like that, as our conversation was smoothly progressing, I decided to bring up the card. "Hey, do you know what language this is?" I asked. She glanced at it for a moment and had a suspicious look for a fraction of a second, which didn't go unnoticed by me.
"No, I don't. What's written in there?" She said, to which I replied, "Oh, I think it says Sensumo. And I don't know the meaning of it, so I'm trying to find out."
She hummed a "Hmm" and replied, "I think it's a short form of something that starts with Sen, Su, and Mo. You know, like the meme of Saitama with Sasuke, Itachi, and Madara."
'She is sharp. She reached the same conclusion as I did, faster than me. Plus, she did have that suspicious glance, but she wasn't lying either when she said she doesn't know this language. Yare yare. Too little information, but I guess I enjoyed our date.' I thought as we finished our first date. And I knew it. Both of us had enjoyed it.
"Bye. Make sure to call or text when you reach home, okay, Soma?" She reminded me.
"Alright, I will make sure to do it. And I really enjoyed it. Goodbye." I said.
"Yeah, bye," she said as she waved her hand, smiling. She was truly beautiful. And who knew it would be the last time I would ever see her like this. Yes, she. Sakura. My first and last girlfriend on Earth.
"Sen and su and mo, huh?" I muttered as I tried to piece together the components while walking, attempting to find the perfect word that fits. However, I still didn't have a clue, but I continued trying.
Soon, I reached home and entered, encountering the familiar scene. Once again, I started my monologue. 'It seems to be a title for someone strong, a protector perhaps. Or something along those lines, but none of the words seem to fit. Sigh. So many unknowns. Let's turn on the light.'
As I flicked on the light switch, a memory related to light surfaced. Not the bright kind, but the "light" from Death Note. The scenario involving Light and myself came to mind, but I dismissed it as inconsequential for now. After all, not all protagonists are entirely virtuous. Maybe it's someone akin to those characters.
Once again, I attempted to fill in the gaps. Based on my earlier deduction, it's related to someone or a title. So it should be something like "Yellow Flash" or "Ghost of the Uchiha." However, I think it didn't yield any progress. Sigh.
"As expected, it didn't lead to any progress. Well, I'll ponder over it later. For now-... Ah! I completely forgot. I should probably text Sakura before she gets upset with me and annihilates me. Wait a minute. Senmetsu (センメツ or Annihilation). Now I've got it. It's not a fancy nickname like the ones I initially thought of.
It's Senmetsu Suru Mono. In short, Sensumo. Sen meaning Senmetsu. Suru Mono meaning one who. So it could mean 'the one who annihilates.' I just hope it refers to bad guys only. Because I'm quite naive. I guess. Haha. For now let's text her."
Before I could do that, my room suddenly started shining brightly, to the point where I couldn't see anything properly at all. It appeared that the source of the brightness was coming from that mysterious card. I caught a glimpse of it a fraction of a second before it even happened completely.
After one hour...
"Hey, Soma. What happened? You didn't even text me even though the message was seen. Also, you weren't responding to the calls at all," Sakura said for the third time worryingly. But it didn't turn out to be any good. So she opened the door with the spare key.
And all she could see was his phone on the floor with something recorded in it.
[ Author's note:- So hey guys, by far how is the story? Also to all the readers who have reached till here all I can say is, thank you very much. So like I had this simple idea about Sensumo like six months ago. And here I am to make this idea to be known to the world. Also I would like to add that Sensumo isn't simply an concept which allows one to travel between worlds. It's something more deep. Which I want to show in this story. Hope you liked it! Peace ✌️... ]
