Chapter 1 Unveiled Deception

On a vividly radiant Tuesday morning, as the golden sun cast its warm glow upon the earth, Juliet arrived in New York City. Exactly two weeks had elapsed since the unforgettable moment when Dave, her beloved partner, chose to profess his love and commitment to her through an extremely beautiful and romantic proposal. Sadly, the joy that enveloped their hearts was met with a prick of sorrow because two days after the proposal, Juliet received news of her aunt's grave illness, compelling her to leave for Texas, her birth country. Weeks passed, and she returned to New York City.

However, determined to delightfully surprise Dave, she decided to keep her return a secret. Immediately she got home, she dropped off her luggage and without hesitation, she drove off in her car, her heart brimming with immense excitement because she'd get to see her lover after a long time.

Upon arriving at Dave's house, she knocked on his door, eagerly anticipating a response that unfortunately never arrived. She checked and discovered the door was unlocked. Dave had the habit of leaving his front door unlocked. When she entered the living room, her eyes quickly scanned the area as she discovered he wasn't there.

However, what did catch her attention were the two abandoned plates of partially consumed food resting carelessly upon the center table. The sight immediately prompted a lot of assumptions within her mind, but she guessed he had a guest over earlier on and he was resting. She was still pondering over the possibility of Dave having guests over when a voice from the bedroom altered her thoughts. "Ummm, yes," the voice moaned. It was a feminine voice, and Juliet wondered what a lady was doing in Dave's bedroom. "Was his sister around?" She asked herself as she decided to check the room. With each step she took, a blend of fear and curiosity welled up within her because she began to clearly hear intense erotic sounds from the direction of the bedroom. Was he watching a movie? If it was indeed a movie, why did the male voice sound exactly like Dave's? Several questions filled her mind as she walked towards the bedroom door and opened it, not knowing what to expect. Behold! Her fiancé was in bed with another woman. The both of them were oblivious to Juliet's presence as the lady rode widely on top of him. "Yesss, come on, my love," Dave groaned as he grabbed the lady's waist more firmly. "David!" Juliet screamed, her voice filled with shock and dismay.

That moment, the woman on top of Dave turned, and shock hit Juliet like a tidal wave. Her fiancé, whom she trusted wholeheartedly, was cheating on her with Emily, the new girl at work, the one he assured her not to worry about. Juliet's entire world came crashing down as everything came to a sudden halt. Dave's face twisted with bewilderment as he saw Juliet. "W-what are you doing here?" He stammered, his voice filled with shock, as he slightly pushed Emily away. Juliet couldn't find the words to respond. She stood there, frozen in shock, tears welling up her eyes, as betrayal pierced through her heart. Emily nonchalantly shrugged, rolling her eyes at Juliet before casually settling on the bed. Dave hurriedly got up, put on his shorts, and rushed towards Juliet, taking hold of her trembling hands. "I'm really sorry. It's not what you think," he pleaded. "How could you do this to me?" Juliet choked out, tears rolling down her eyes, her voice quivering with hurt. Unable to take it anymore, she stormed out of the room. Dave chased after her, his voice echoing in the hallway as he yelled her name. "Juliet! Juliet, please wait! I can explain," he pleaded, desperation lacing his words. His statement fueled Juliet's anger, so she turned around swiftly, her eyes burning with fury, and confronted him. "Explain? Explain what exactly?" She snapped, her voice laced with bitterness. "How do you explain an obvious act of promiscuity?" At that particular moment, a surge of overwhelming emotion washed over Juliet, and she cried bitterly. In a long while, she had not, but on that very day, the floodgates opened, and she found herself weeping profusely – an unexpected outpouring of emotion all caused by a single individual, a guy no less. This was something she had consistently boasted about never succumbing to, confidently declaring that she would never allow herself to cry over a man. Sadly, reality reminded her that the notion of the adage "never say never" held undeniable weight and significance. "Please stop crying," Dave implored, rushing towards Juliet, grasping her hands. "Leave me alone," she snapped, swiftly freeing herself from his desperate hold. "What did I ever do wrong?" She wiped her tear-streaked face and looked into his eyes, searching for answers. "Did you even really love me?" She asked, her voice trembling. He continued to stare at her, his expression unreadable. It felt as though he thought she had lost her mind. Perhaps she had. She was consumed by madness and fury. "Answer me!" Juliet demanded, her voice quivering with a mix of pain and anger. "Was anything we shared real?" He sighed deeply, bowing his head, and in response to her persistent questioning, he finally replied, "It's a long story." His voice was heavy with the weight of untold details and hidden truths. "Hold on," Juliet interrupted urgently, extending her hands in a gesture meant to halt his words. "Is this the first time you both have been intimate?" "No, sweetheart," Emily answered intrusively, her voice slicing through the air like a sharp blade.

Both Dave and Juliet turned their attention towards her, waiting for her next revelation. With a sense of audacity, Emily continued her confession, her words dripping with a mixture of possessiveness and bitter resentment. "Just so you know, he has always belonged to me, long before you came along. How do you think I managed to get my job? It was he who paved the way for me. If it weren't for the fact that his mother, for reasons best known to her, dislikes my existence, you wouldn't even be in the picture." Baffled and searching for answers, Juliet mustered the courage to question further, seeking to understand the depths of their deception. "Why then did you bother engaging me?" She queried, staring at Dave. "Why did you use me?" Once again, Emily intrusively answered. With a wry smile curled upon her lips, she responded, "Well, let us just say that it was because his mother inexplicably developed an affection for your presence, and Dave, being the devoted mummy's boy that he is, felt compelled to play along. Also..." "Emily, enough!" Dave's voice boomed with authority, cutting her speech short, attempting to put an end to the chaos unfolding before them. "Come on babe, let me clear the air for her. You know I'm the one true love of your life," Emily rolled her eyes as she walked up to Dave and planted a kiss on his cheek. Juliet's mind reeled in disbelief as she struggled to comprehend the magnitude of their betrayal. She gazed at Dave, searching for any glimmer of remorse or regret, but all she found was his silent agreement and a downward gaze that seemed to concede defeat. The realization hit Juliet like a tsunami, leaving her feeling used and utterly humiliated. It was as though a multitude of sharp knives had been mercilessly thrust into her heart, and suddenly, the person she trusted above all others had callously pushed her into a treacherous river, leaving her to drown in a sea of deceit and lies. With a heavy heart, Juliet slowly turned her back against them, like a solitary figure walking away from the shattered remnants of a love that had turned to ashes. Each step she took felt laden with the weight of broken promises and shattered dreams. At one point, overwhelmed by the emotional turmoil, her legs betrayed her, causing her to stagger and ultimately collapse to the ground. Emily's cruel laughter echoed, a haunting reminder of the mockery Juliet had become, while Dave, devoid of any compassion or intervention, stood idly by. Summoning every ounce of strength remaining within her, Juliet mustered the courage to rise from the ground. Her spirit bruised, her heart broken, she walked away from their toxic presence. As she crossed the doorstep of the house, bidding farewell to the shattered remnants of a love that had been nothing more than a charade, Emily slammed the door shut behind her.

Making her way to the car and driving away from Dave's home, Juliet found herself reminiscing memories of the past, once laced with tenderness and affection. The realization dawned upon her with a bitter taste of disillusionment-she had been nothing but a puppet, a pawn in their game of manipulation. This cut through her like a polished sword, leaving behind scars that would forever remain in the depths of her heart. Soon, her breath began to come out in harsh pants, with tears flowing down her eyes endlessly, blinding her vision momentarily. She raised her hand to wipe her eyes when she suddenly lost grip of the steering wheel, causing the car to swerve to the left. Before she could gain control over the wheel, her car slammed solidly into the side of an incoming car. The impact of the crash pushed her forward, and her head hit the windshield. As a result, constant ringing filled her ears. Her vision blurred, and dizziness overwhelmed her, gradually pulling her into darkness. As her head fell back, the last thing she saw was a blurry human-like figure running towards her before she completely lost consciousness.
