--- PROLOGUE ANGIE POV "Angie, let's go to the bar later after our class," Ashley said as she arrived and sat next to me. We were in the library, and there weren't many people around. "But isn't it prohibited to drink alcohol or any alcoholic beverages? Doc Saxvora mentioned it last time during his announcement. If you want to drink, I'll just review here," I reminded her. "Oh, come on, you just have a crush on Doc Saxvora. Admit it, you secretly like him," she teased, nudging me with her elbow. "Me? Have a crush on Doc? Who told you that I like him? Stop teasing me and let me review," I replied, feeling annoyed. "Oh, come on, even if you don't admit it, you still have a crush on Doc Saxvora. I can tell, you two would make a cute couple," she insisted. She was right, I did have a crush on Doc Saxvora. I didn't know why I had a crush on him, but I woke up one day and realized I was in love with him. Besides his handsome face, he was kind and hardworking. I knew my aunt and grandmother forbade me from having a boyfriend for now, but a doctor was the only one who made my heart beat faster. "Why are you blushing?" I shot her a look when she said that. Was she really my friend, or was she just being annoying? "Excuse me, are you Angie?" Ashley and I both turned to look at the girl in PE attire holding a badminton racket. I nodded in response. "Doc Saxvora called you to the clinic. He wants to check your height and weight. You missed your appointment last Friday," she added. "Why are you still waiting? Go, your 'beloved' is waiting for you," she said with a smirk. I was glad she left earlier; otherwise, she might have heard what Ashley said. "Shut up, and I don't have a crush on Doc Saxvora. You're shipping me with him, what if he already has a girlfriend or wife? You're being annoying," I retorted before walking away. After a few minutes, I arrived at the clinic. Before entering, I took a deep breath. I entered three times, but there was no response. "What are you doing here?" I jumped in surprise when I heard his voice. I turned around and saw Doc. "Oh, you must be Angielyn," he added. Why was he so handsome? "Yes, Doc, I'm Angielyn, but you can call me Angie. Angielyn is too long," I said, avoiding his gaze. He opened the doorknob and entered. "Come in, you might think I'll carry you inside," he joked. I hurriedly entered, closing the door behind me. "Sit down; I'll look for the index card with your name," he instructed. I glanced at him as he searched for the index card with my name. His attire suited him well, especially considering his profession as a doctor. I didn't want to get hurt, but I couldn't help but think he might already have a girlfriend or wife. "Done checking me," my eyes widened when he laughed abruptly. He noticed it. "Angie, stand up," I stood up and approached him. "What should I do, Doc?" I asked nervously, feeling the butterflies in my stomach. "Remove your shoes and let me see your weight," I took off my shoes before stepping on the scale. He noted my weight on the index card. "What's my height, Doc?" I asked him. "It's a secret," he chuckled, so I didn't bother asking again. My eyes widened when he held my hand and led me to a wall. He pushed me against the wall, making me stand straight. His heartbeat was so fast, and his face was so close to mine. "You're short," he said and wrote it on the index card. Short? I wasn't that short; he was exaggerating. "Next time, drink milk every day, take afternoon naps, and sleep at the right time. Short people shouldn't stay up late; it affects their growth," he said seriously. "But it's okay to be short; at least you're cute," he chuckled. I didn't know what was happening to me; my heart skipped a beat. I was surprised when he pinched my cheek. "Why are you so cute and beautiful in my eyes when I see you here every day?" Huh? "Doc, I was about to tell y—" I couldn't finish my sentence as he kissed me. I was taken aback, and I didn't know why I closed my eyes and responded to his kiss. After a few minutes, we both caught our breaths. "Angie, can you be my girlfriend? I've liked you since we met, and I don't know why I'm so obsessed with you."

Chapter 1 ANGIE POV

---

"Angie, get up already or you'll be late for school," Mama shouted. I woke up immediately and headed straight to the bathroom to wash up and brush my teeth.

Afterward, I went to the kitchen and saw Mama preparing food. "Go ahead and eat, then take a shower after," she said. I just nodded before eating.

I'm Angie Khale Novestra, the most beautiful girl in the world, just kidding. I'm eighteen years old, in grade 12, and about to go to college soon. My mom works at a café, and she's a single mother.

Yes, a single mother. Mama said my dad left her when she was pregnant with me. I don't know if I should be angry or sad about what Papa did. Wherever Papa is, he's probably happy with his new family now.

After eating, I quickly took a shower. In a few minutes, I was done and dressed in my uniform, carrying my bag downstairs to wear my shoes.

"Angie, here's your 500 pesos allowance. Sorry if this is all I can give you for now. You know we're tight on money, and my salary from work is not enough. I hope you understand, especially since your dad left us," Mama said, her eyes teary. I hugged Mama tightly when I saw her crying.

"Don't worry, even though Dad left us and went to another family, I'm still here, and I won't leave you. Even if I'm stubborn and mischievous, I still do well in school," I said, breaking the hug.

"Yes, even though you're a stubborn and mischievous kid, I'm still proud of you for doing well in school. Just remember what I told you, even though I forbid you from having a boyfriend, don't rush into having one," Mama said, and I nodded.

"Someone's at the door, Ate Sonya," we heard a knock. I recognized the voice immediately. When Mama opened the door, I saw Ashley standing outside.

Ashley and I have been friends since we were kids, and we're still friends now. We never fight about anything, not even about crushes or anything else.

"Good morning, Ate Sonya, hi Angie," I quickly interrupted Mama and said goodbye, telling Mama that we're leaving so we won't be late for school.

Ashley and I always go to school together. "Do you have money with you?" she asked. I nodded in response. "How much?" she asked again.

"500 pesos. I'll use 100 pesos for fare, and I'll bring the rest. I'll save the 300 pesos for tomorrow," I replied. She nodded and we waited for the tricycle to school.

When we got on the tricycle, Ashley talked to me. "Do you know the news last night? The professor said Doc Villavente left for Singapore. It's a shame Doc Villavente is leaving our school."

Doc Villavente is kind to us. Whenever a student feels dizzy or has a headache, he sends them home immediately. "Doc Villavente is really nice to us. Oh well, they'll have to find a replacement for him," she said sadly.

"Who's replacing Doc Villavente?" I asked, curious.

"I'm not sure, but they said the one replacing Doc Villavente is... wait, let me check my messages," she opened her phone and checked. "It says Doc... Ace Oliver Saxvora, but they haven't posted his picture yet." So a guy is replacing Doc Villavente?

"Kids, we're here at school, it's 10 pesos per student," the driver said. We gave him the money and entered the school.

As we entered, we found students whispering to each other.

"I wonder if the one replacing Doc Villavente is handsome?"

"I hope he's handsome, and if he is, I'll marry him right away."

"I miss Doc Villavente."

"It's only in the morning and the ugly ones are already gossiping, probably because beauty is all they have," Ashley whispered to me, but I just ignored what she said and continued walking to our classroom.

Our classroom was noisy and chaotic as usual. "Sigh, this is how our classroom is every day," Ashley said as we walked to our seats.

"Angielyn Khale Novestra, the principal is calling you"...

Madam Principal asked, "Do you know each other?" Ashley replied, "No, Mrs. Davis, we just met yesterday at the market. She almost got assaulted by three men, so she ran and bumped into me." Ashley then recounted the incident where she narrowly escaped being assaulted by three men. In the flashback, she rejected their advances and managed to flee, but ended up colliding with a stranger. The stranger, who turned out to be a doctor, intervened and prevented the assault. Ashley's mother arrived, expressing gratitude to the doctor for his help. The flashback ends, and the principal instructs Ashley to give the doctor a tour of the school. As they leave, Ashley's friend wishes her luck, and the doctor confirms he's finished checking something with Miss Novestra.
