Everest's POV
As I wandered through the woods on Thursday, the day reserved for our hunting trip with my parents, my gaze fell upon a cluster of delicate wildflowers swaying in the breeze. I reached out a hand to pluck one, entranced by their beauty. But as my fingers brushed against the petals, I realized with a jolt that they weren't flowers at all - they were eyes. Wolf's eyes.
My pulse stuttered to a stop as the wolf's form appeared before me, its eyes locking onto mine with an unblinking stare. Its massive paws seemed rooted to the earth, and its gaze held me captive.
My mom's voice echoed through the woods, "EVEREST!!!" - a warning, a plea, a desperate cry for me to run. I tried to move, but my legs wouldn't budge. The wolf crept closer, its pace slow and deliberate, and I felt my breath catch in my throat.
My parents fled, abandoning me to the mercy of the wolf. I was alone, defenseless, and terrified. The wolf's hot breath washed over me, and I knew I was at its mercy.
I ran through the woods, my heart racing as the breeze whipped around me. The rogue wolf's panting grew louder as its footsteps started closing in.
I snapped through the trees as the branches scratched my face, and I could feel the wolf's hot breath almost grappling me.
With my breath hitching, my feet caught a stump, and I fell to the ground. I scrambled up again, running heavily, my legs trembling beneath me, until I clashed into someone passing by.
He stood in front of me, looking surprised. When he saw I what I was scared of, he quickly transformed into a wolf.
His limbs shrunk, and his muscles flexed. His bones reshaped themselves, and a brilliant blue fur sprouted from his skin. His face lengthened, his nose flattened, and his eyes turned a piercing yellow. He let out a mighty roar, and his blue wolf emerged, powerful and sleek, standing protectively between me and the rogue wolf.
He charged at the rogue wolf, and it puffed out its fur, ready to fight. The two wolves met in a flurry of snarls and snaps, and they fell to the ground as they fought. The rogue wolf was larger, but the blue wolf was nimble and evaded its attacks with quick reflexes. The blue wolf quickly bit the rogue's shoulder, causing it to yelp in pain. The fight continued, with the two wolves rolling and tumbling, their fur matting with dirt and leaves as they wrestled.
I stood behind the trees as my heart pounded while I watched the two wolves clash. The blue wolf's attacks were swift and deadly, its blue coat slick with sweat. Finally, it subdued the rogue wolf, pinning it to the ground with its jaws locked around its throat. The rogue wolf whimpered in defeat, and the blue wolf released it, letting it slink away with its tail between its legs.
The blue wolf stood up, panting, and looked around cautiously. Its eyes searched for me, but I hid behind the tree, too scared to show myself. But the wolf moved around the tree, its eyes fixed on me, and stood before me, its tail wagging slowly. I closed my eyes, and when I opened them again, he had transformed back into his human form, standing before me.
A burning sensation surged through him as he gazed at me questioningly. I was an Omega, so it would take a long time for me to feel anything at all. He was trying to find out if I could feel what he was feeling.
He said, "I'm Cayden, and I know you're Everest. Do you not feel how I feel?" and then he firmly pressed his nose into mine.
I responded in a trembling voice, "No, Cayden—I don't know you!"
With my heart still pounding from the experience, I shoved him fast away as I trudged through the woods. As I saw my house in the distance when I emerged from the woods, my mind immediately became at ease.
I walked into the living room and saw mum's face was plastered with fury, and dad's gaze locked with mine. It took me a few moments to figure out who was the person who has been wronged. They really left me to fend for myself in the woods.
"Where have you been?" Dad inquired, sounding a little irritated and edgy.
"In the woods where you dumped me," I snapped back, meeting my father's and mother's gazes with mine.
"We never abandoned you. You simply weren't strong enough to escape with us. Ever since your birth, you have been useless. You were not even accepted into a pack because of this. You should be quite embarrassed of yourself. Not even transforming into a werewolf is possible. Then, how did you manage to get away?" My mother yelled and got up, suppressing her attempt to smack me.
