Chapter 1 PROLOGUE

A long time ago, creatures with unimaginable power existed. They were called,

Leefaes.

They had the power to see into the future, the past, and the present. They could see things that no other being could see, feel things that no other being could feel, and do things that no other being could do. However, one in every Leefae would be born even more extraordinary. How, you ask? These Leefaes had the ability to interfere with Fate.

Threatened by their power, humanity hunted them like animals. Some would kill them in fear of the threat they grew to become, some would capture and forcefully breed with them to create powerful allies they would control to conquer territories.

And still, despite the incredible power these creatures possessed, they never once fought back in fear that they would use their power for evil. For there was a prophecy that if a Leefae tempered with the balance of the earth with the powers gifted to them by god, the fate of the ones they doomed would befall them.

But, what happened to the Leefaes who controlled Fate with their very hands?

"I'm sick of this" Zeya muttered under her breath, and the whole room went eerily quiet.

Hanna turned to her friend, then to the man who held out a ring on one knee, with an equally confused expression on his face.

Zeya looked up a bit perplexed.

"Oh, did I say that out loud?"

The waiters looked between themselves and broke into murmurs.

"I knew it. That's Zeya Redford. The girl who's tagged Anti-Romance"

"Ironically, her parents are the infamous Redford couple"

"The Redford couple?!"

"Who'd have thought the world's favourite couple would have a child so..."

"Wrong?"

Zeya let out a low scoff as their words filled her ears. They didn't even try to gossip quieter. Much like they wanted her to hear them.

"I really am sick of this" Zeya scoffed bitterly.

"Zeya" Hanna warned with a feigned grin plastered on her face.

"Hanna baby, it's fine." Daryl spoke, "Just focus on me alright? That's all that matters"

Zeya let out her third scoff and tore her fingers through her hair.

"He said with a heart full of deceit"

"Zeya!" Hanna all but yelled.

"What is your problem?" Daryl questioned, getting off his knees and shooting Zeya a piercing glare.

"My problem? You wanna know what my problem is? It's the fact that you pretend to be this 'perfect' boyfriend when you're really a hypocrite with a stupid grin. Do you really want me to mention the women and men you've been sleeping with? Right here and now? Cause I gotta tell ya-" she broke into an amused scoff, "there are a lotta them in this room, right next to us"

A few of the waitresses darted their eyes around in a guilt ridden expression, and Hanna's eyes widened a fraction.

"ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?!" Daryl roared and made to grab her hand, but tripped on a napkin on the floor.

"H-how can you say something so cruel to your friend in the middle of her proposal!" One of the waitresses accused, and Zeya furrowed her brows.

"First off; shut it, side chick number seven, and second, I did tell Hanna. She just refused to listen. I on the other hand refused to watch her fall for this a**hole's sweetened lies."

Daryl shot up from the floor and rushed over to Hanna.

"Baby. Schnuckles. Don't listen to this..." He struggled for the right word, "Witch!"

Zeya cocked her head to the side in an impassive stare. "Really?"

"I love you!" Daryl continued. "I want to spend the rest of my life with you! I really do!" His voice broke as his cheeks stained with tears.

He latched unto Hanna so desperately, begging and declaring his love for her. The entire restaurant watched in sympathy as the young man begged for his one true love to believe him.

"Sad" Zeya breathed. She knew better than anyone, that he lied with every breath. Her eyes wandered to the red string on his pinky.

Someone stands at the other end of that thread. Someone he betrayed. Someone who was currently hurting.

To have someone you love dearly, someone fated for you, be so cruel to you.

Such is life. Such is Fate.

"I don't need to say anything else" Zeya stood from her chair, then grabbed her bag. "Believe what you want. Hate me too, if it makes things easier" she shot a small smile Hanna's way. "Enjoy your proposal."

"Wow. What a horrible person"

"She's a witch for real. I heard unexplainable things happen around her"

"Of course! Didn't you see how Daryl mysteriously tripped? I'm sure she cast a spell on him"

"She really is Anti-Romance"

Their words ushered Zeya out of the room, and she stood at the sidewalk. She felt the cold air brush against her skin, and the moon shone so bright, the street lights held not a candle to them.

"I love you"

"I love you too"

The couple to her right broke out in giggles, and she stared at the strings tied to their fingers.

Not connected.

She watched strangers pass by.

Connected.

Two friends having lunch.

Connected.

Not connected. Connected. Not connected. Connected-!

She closed her eyes tight and held her breath.

To the Leefaes who controlled Fate with their very hands, Life looked much more different to them. And while some would call it power,

"Why do I have to see this..." she muttered under her breath and a sob escaped her lips. "Why-!" She paused and crouched to the floor bawling. "Why on earth do I have to see this?! I don't want to! It's not like I asked for it! I didn't ask to kno- I don't want to know!"

It was really a curse.
