After a chance encounter, Mr. Lu was determined to find her, no matter the cost. When they crossed paths again, she was dating his nephew. "Hello, Uncle Lu," she greeted with a smile. He said nothing and took her home, swiftly arranging their marriage. "Are we not acquainted enough? Let's start by having two children to strengthen our bond," he proposed.
Jinding Entertainment Club was bustling with noise, filled to the brim with a diverse crowd of men and women.
Inside a private room, a lively group of young people drank, sang, chatted, and played cards, their laughter echoing with vitality. Empty bottles and cigarette ash littered the table, while couples hugged and whispered sweet nothings.
In a corner, Muh Cheng sat, her head nestled against the wall, struggling against waves of drowsiness.
Mo Jinxuan's gaze frequently swept over her, filled with affection. His close friend touched his arm, flashing a suggestive smile. "I've arranged a room upstairs for you. Take Muh Cheng there to rest."
Mo Jinxuan smiled back, silently rising and making his way to Muh Cheng. Squatting beside her, he gently patted her hand. "Muh Cheng, feeling tired? Let me take you to rest."
Rubbing her eyes, Muh Cheng nodded sleepily. She sluggishly picked up her bag and took his hand as they exited.
In the corridor outside, Mo Jinxuan glanced down at their intertwined fingers, a faint smile tugging at his lips.
Still groggy, Muh Cheng stumbled along, vaguely sensing something familiar as they walked.
Ahead, a group emerged from another room. Mo Jinxuan suddenly exclaimed, "Uncle, when did you get back?"
Lu Jinting turned, instantly commanding attention with his striking appearance-sharp features, piercing eyes, and an air of authority that chilled the room.
Mo Jinxuan, holding Muh Cheng's hand, approached with reverence. "Uncle, what a surprise."
Lu Jinting briefly acknowledged them before his gaze lingered on the girl beside his nephew. A subtle tension filled the air, unnoticed by Mo Jinxuan as he gently squeezed Muh Cheng's hand, rousing her momentarily. "Muh Cheng, this is my uncle."
Still bleary-eyed, Muh Cheng greeted him, feeling an unsettling chill emanating from him.
Mo Jinxuan, sensing the change in atmosphere, interjected nervously, "Uncle, don't frighten my friend. Please continue with your plans. I'll take her upstairs to rest."
With that, he hurried Muh Cheng away.
As they passed Lu Jinting, Muh Cheng yawned, catching a whiff of something familiar. She glanced up at the imposing figure beside them.
Caught off guard, her legs buckled, and she almost fell to the ground, saved by strong arms that steadied her.
Mo Jinxuan held her arm, worried. "Muh Cheng, are you okay? Did you hurt yourself?"
Still rattled by the encounter, Muh Cheng managed a smile. "I'm fine."
"You nearly fell asleep walking," Mo Jinxuan remarked, concerned. "I've booked a room upstairs. Let's go there."
"I think I'll go to my aunt's house," she replied softly.
Mo Jinxuan didn't insist. "I'll call a taxi for you."
They reached the door. Muh Cheng moved to hail a cab when Mo Jinxuan gently held her wrist. "Muh Cheng, must you be so polite? It pains me to see you like this."
She forced a smile. "We're classmates, good friends."
Mo Jinxuan's expression darkened slightly. "Just classmates? Good friends?"
Displeased, he tightened his grip, closing the taxi door. "Come with me."
"You!" Muh Cheng snapped, pushing his hand away. "Mo Jinxuan, please stop this. It's late, and I need to go back. I have class tomorrow."
"I just want to make sure you get home safely," he said softly, trying to reach for her again.
She stepped back, maintaining distance. Mo Jinxuan draped his coat over her shoulders. As she prepared to refuse, he gently held her shoulder, his voice low. "Please, wear it."
Muh Cheng remained silent, lips pressed tight.
Beside her, Mo Jinxuan observed her stubbornness with curiosity.
A sleek black Maybach pulled up before them. The tinted window lowered to reveal a cold yet charming man's face.
