Lexi's entire world collapsed suddenly. While she was enjoying a calming bath, the comfort of the warm water was relieving her muscles, and at that moment, her phone started to ring. She didn't hear it initially because the water splashes drowned out the sound. It rang five times without a response until she eventually noticed the faint buzzing sound. Water dripping from her body, she leaped out of the tub and hurried to pick up the phone.
She felt her heart pounding as she noticed an unfamiliar number displayed on the screen. For a brief moment, she paused, pondering the identity of the person. However, she felt an urge to respond.
"Hello?" she spoke with a slight tremble in her voice.
"Lexi, this is Dr. Smith calling from Mercy Hospital." The tone of the voice was serious, causing Lexi to feel a sudden jolt in her heart.
With her mind filled with worst-case scenarios, she enquired, "What can I do for you, sir?"
"It concerns Max." He has been involved in a fatal accident . You have to arrive here as quickly as you can.
"Is he...is he fine?" she stuttered, her voice barely audible as water continued to drip from her body. Lexi, it's not time for questions, the Doctor said abruptly, putting an end to the call, that now was not the time for questions."
Lexi hurriedly put on her clothes and rushed to Mercy Hospital, her thoughts racing. Upon reaching the location, she went over to the receptionist.
"Hello, can I speak with the Doctor?"
The receptionist politely guided her to his office. Lexi rapped on the door before walking in.
"Good day, Doctor. Can you please tell me how Max's health is ?"
"Do not fret Lexi, he is in good condition," responded the doctor.
However, Lexi's feeling of relief did not last long.
"Doctor, are you certain?" she inquired, with tears filling her eyes.
The doctor's face became serious. I apologize, Lexi. Your future spouse is in critical condition."
Lexi's eyes grew wide with shock. Doctor, that doesn't seem accurate. I believe you are mistaken and mixing him up with another person.
Her panic remained despite the doctor's comforting manner. "Madam, take it easy, don't be too tough on yourself."
Lexi had tears running down her face while pleading, "May I have a look at him?"
The doctor gave a nod, causing Lexi to feel afraid and unsure.
The Doctor led Lexis to the emergency ward Max was staying in,ward 202.He opened the door and directed Lexis to come into the ward.Lexi entered the emergency ward quickly, feeling her heart pounding with fear. Frantically scanning the room, she looked around for Max. After that, she caught sight of him. Everything in her life came to a sudden halt.
Max, her lively and animated fiancé, lay still on the bed, his body beaten and bruised. He had a swollen face, sunken eyes, and pale skin. Lexi's eyes expanded in terror as she hurried to his side.
Hey Max! She called out to Max, urging him to wake up, giving him a gentle shake.
However, no answer was given. Max's body stayed motionless, with his eyes shut as if he were in a very deep slumber. Lexi's anguished face twisted as she repeatedly called out to him, her voice reverberating throughout the hospital walls.
"Max, I urge you to do it!" Rise and shine! Oh, dear God, please awaken!
Her vision was blurred by tears as she looked at Max's broken body. She sensed as if she was engulfed in an ocean of hopelessness, struggling to breathe or process thoughts. She was overwhelmed with thoughts of the worst possible outcomes, her heart breaking into a million fragments.
"Max, stop!" No, absolutely not! "She cried out in despair, her voice full of sorrow,"
She called out to the doctor and asked him, "What is happening? Why is he not responding? Doctor talk to me, Lexis said sorrowfully.' '
Madam, you have to calm down and take it easy on yourself, with the way you are going about the issue you might run mad because of the situation' . The doctor said to her with his face facing the ground, Can I explain everything for you at my office? the doctor asked calmly. 'Okay doctor', Lexis said she was so eager to know why Max wasn't responding and their wedding is around the corner.
The doctor led her to his office again, opened his door and directed her to have a seat. Lexi's eyes were already red because she had cried enough in the emergency ward.
Doctor what's wrong with my Max?, why wasn't he talking to me?Lexis asked the doctor again, crying.
'Madam if you don't calm down and stop crying,I'm sorry I won't tell you what's the issue, the doctor threatened her , so she can stop crying.
Lexis quickly wiped her eyes and tried to calm, she wanted to know why Max wasn't responding. Okay doctor am calm now am no longer crying she said to the doctor, trying to put a fake smile on her face.
"Madam, I'm sorry, but Max is in a coma. His condition is very critical," the doctor said gravely.
"Coma?!" Lexis shouted, tears streaming down her face.
"Madam, please calm down," the doctor urged, his tone serious.
Lexis composed herself, her eyes welling up with tears. "How can I calm down? My husband is fighting for his life!"
The doctor's expression turned stern. "Madam, you need to drop a deposit of $5,000 so we can help him stimulate his brain for a quick recovery."
Lexis's eyes widened in despair. "Ahh, doctor, where will I get such money from? We only have $1,000 in our savings account. Where do I get such money from?" She buried her face in her hands, tears flowing uncontrollably.
The doctor's voice was firm. "Madam, time is of the essence here. You need to make the deposit in 72 hours, that's 3 days... or..."
He paused, his eyes locked onto hers, leaving Lexis and the fate of Max hanging in suspense...
