Sophia's POV
" Bullocks". I cursed with a sigh dragging my beaten up sorry for an excuse luggage bag along the road which contrast greatly with my entire appearance.
I had finally arrived at Golden street, at least I thought I had. It would be a shame if I hadn't.
My legs came to a halt and I bent down to catch my breath, dragging it slowly while bending down. I had been walking non-stop for over three hours which this sack of junk and i was finally here.
"Gosh..." I blinked in awe looking around. This place was beautiful.
The building were tall as if touching the sky and they were transparent.
" Are this damn things made of glass?" I wondered as my mouth opened wide while my neck stretched back so I could get a complete view.
Who builds a house with glass?
Aren't they afraid it would break or anything?
I shook my head looking away.
Where I came from, this huge building would have been in ruins by now, or of not ruins, it would at least have a scratch, because there was no way in hell those little kids there would see something like this and not try to bring it down.
I would have done so myself if I wasn't this tired, and hungry, and tried... I groaned brushing my long frizzy brown hair back before staring at the sun.
I wasn't Einstein nor did I have a watch with me, but it wasn't rocket science to guess that it was around midday right now.
" Sophia, you're finally here ". I said to myself looking around.
This definitely the place I was going to. It had to be. " Excuse me " I stopped a lady who was passing by with her face buried in her phone, but the lady didn't stop and pretended she didn't even hear me.
No answer... Okay.
But I wasn't one to just give up.
I rushed after her and tapped her. " Excuse me ". I said loudly. The lady looked back and threw me a glare.
" What is it? What do you want?"
I frowned taking a step back. " I just want to..."
"Money? " She interrupted, her voice sounding stern and venomous. " You want money right?"
Money?
" Why would you think..."
" Stop the pretense". She almost yelled. " You sly beggar. Do you think I'm one of those nobody's you beg for money? "
My eyes moved from her face and down to her feet before going back to her face. " You're not? " I asked feigning a look of surprise while putting my hands on my mouth. " I didn't realize. "
" You... " She fumed, her face turning red. " Do you know who the fuck I am? "
I tilted my head little thinking, before shaking my head. " I have no idea. "
" You..."
" I'll save you the trouble. " I raised up my hand to stop ber from spewing whatever nonsense she wanted to say. " I only wanted to ask if this was Golden street, but I've gotten my answer already ".
I had no doubt now that this was Golden street.
She hissed taking a step back from me. " You should be grateful I don't have you time you beggar ". She said before walking away from me, really fast.
" Aish... Such a shame ". I shook my head staring at the direction the lady left in. " How could someone be that pretty but so vile at the same time? " I wondered in amusement.
The lady had beautiful blonde hair that she flaunted around she walked away, with a beautiful face.
I wish I could wish for a hair like that, and a face to match, but if it came with that attitude, I was way better on my own.
It was attitude like that that got people beaten up where I came from.
And the worst part was that she looked no older than me... Two or three years at most.
I stopped a passing cab and got in. " To the royals residence ". I ordered the driver, settling into my seat.
I could have just called a cab long time ago and saved myself the five hours long walk from the orphanage to this damn place, but I didn't.
More like my pocket couldn't afford it.
Right now I only had enough to go where I wanted to with the hope that I would get accepted. If I was turned back, I literally had nowhere else to go, and no money to take me there.
I looked out the window and sighed in amusement at the new things I saw as the road got familiar.
Golden street.
A place where all the rich folks lived. Where the best schools and jobs and even air was, but that was not why I was here.
This was also here the king and queen of this great country lived, and that was why I was here.
To find them, my parents.
...
FLASH BACK
FIVE YEARS AGO
I hid myself behind sister Elizabeth, one of the nuns at the orphanages as we both stood in front of the king and queen.
My heart has been beating nonstop with excitement ever since she mentioned early this morning that she was taking me to meet my parents.
I had spent all my life in an orphanage, thirteen years to be exact, and I was finally going to meet my parents today.
I couldn't contain my happiness and smiled through out entire journey. But now standing in front of them, I couldn't stop myself from trembling in fear.
They were freaking scary!
It was the queens glare that frightened me the most, I held Sister Elizabeth's gown even tighter in my hands.
It got even worse when sister Elizabeth announced that I was the king's child.
" What!" The woman screamed in surprise. " That can't be ".
I immediately agreed with her, nodding my head vehemently even though she couldn't see me.
' What was this woman saying? ' I wondered in confusion tugging at her dress.
" No, it could be " The king said in a calm tone and my eyes went wide.
The king?! I was the king's child? That meant I was a princess!
Sister Elizabeth didn't tell me anything.
The queen grunted in disapproval, but she said nothing more. Only leaned back on her seat and glared daggers on me.
" Where is she from?" The king asked Sister Elizabeth in a stern tone as his eyes swept past her and I also looked up at her in curiosity.
Of course I knew where I was from, but I wanted to hear what she would say.
" Well she..." Sister Elizabeth swallowed.
Oh now she was nervous? Guess she should have gathered a little more moral before coming to the king's castle and announcing that I was his freaking daughter!
Not like being princess and living in a huge castle like this one was bad though, actually anywhere would be better that the orphanage.
The king frown before removing his gaze from me and glaring at sister Elizabeth, who I felt trembled. " Can't you speak?"
At least I wasn't the only one terrified.
" Well... She is from the orphanage, where she had lived all her life. " She answered at last.
The kind nodded. "And her mother?"
" Died after giving birth to her ".
I felt my heart just slump after I heard her say that.
I knew that was how my mother died, I was reminded everyday in that orphanage about how I killed my mother... It just felt terrible hearing sister Elizabeth say it to someone else.
But then again... I looked up at the king and queen.
If what the sister is saying is true, I would have a new mother and father very soon, rich ones.
The king stood up from his throne and my heart jumped. I gulped hugging Sister Elizabeth even more tightly. " Since that's the case, come with me. The queen would take care of..." He trailed.
" Sophy... Sophia ".
" Yes, her. " He nodded and Sister Elizabeth followed him out of the the throne, leaving me with the stern and wicked looking queen.
' Damn you sister '. I cursed inwardly as I stared at the ground, suddenly finding it fascinating.
" How old are you girl? " The queen asked after a while breaking the awkward and breathing taking silence.
"Em... 13 ". I said softly looking up at her.
" Look here young child you can never be part of this family".
I blinked in shock.
My heart beat just stopped as my eyes turned blurry. "But..."
" You're not royalty material, I can see it". She continued in a nonchalant tone. Not even caring that I was about to have an heart attack.
" Don't cry here. What do you want a family? " She smirked looking down at me. " You know what, why not we test it?"
" Graduate from high school with the best grades, no... " She shook her head. " Graduate as the valedictorian of whatever lowlife school you're going to right now, and secure a scholarship to the best college in the country. Then you can come back here and claim your place ". She snorted and without taking another glance at me, stood up from her throne and left broken heart me in the room.
