"Really Olivia?" Hannah flashed the result paper at Olivia's eyes, frustrated. Olivia, feeling embarrassed at herself, slumped on the plush sofa and buried her head in her palms.
Hannah, Olivia's mom had just received Olivia's term results from her school at Los Angeles and her performance was awful, again. Hannah was disappointed and she kept pacing to and fro, dressed in her designer attire, heels clicking on the marble floor. The room was almost empty, scarcely occupied with unpacked boxes and scattered papers, evidence that they had just moved into the house.
Oakwood street.
Finally, after throwing words at her daughter for a few minutes, Hannah sat on a sofa across Olivia's. Her eyes scanned through the paper for like the umpteenth time before she finally kept it,her face maintaining the disappointed expression.
"You can't study in England if you continue this way Ollie," Hannah finally talked in a low tone. Olivia raised her head, her dark hair veiling her face.
"I don't have to,"she muttered, her eyes swelling with tears. "I really don't have to Mom." Her voice trembled.
Hannah's face hardened. "Don't be ridiculous Ollie" She scowled at her. "Everyone wants to study there," She said, her voice brisk and direct.
"But I don't want to." Olivia said, her voice laced with finality.
Hannah halted, she exhaled sharply, "England is the goal Ollie,it's The key to unlocking your future, more respect to your name if you study there."her voice firm but laced with desperation.
Olivia's face drooped, tears spilling to her laps.just two months ago,her parents got divorced, after many years of living without love, she had just moved from Los Angeles to a lake view city, and she'll be getting enrolled in a new school. Too much turnarounds in very few months.
When Hannah saw the tears trickling down Olivia's cheeks, she softened and joined Olivia on her sofa, she placed her hand on Olivia's. "I'll only do what's best for you sweetheart, even if you don't see it now"
Olivia looked away, her face mixed with an expression of defiance and sadness", You're ruining my life mom, just two months ago,dad left, now I'm in this strange city, far from my friends, about to be enrolled in a new school, mom! You're suffocating me," She felt the weight of her mom's expectations crushing her. "Stop ruling my life, stop!" She rose angrily, her movement jerky as she rushed upstairs, leaving Hannah amidst the scattered papers and unpacked boxes.
In her room, Olivia collapsed into her bed,her room surrounded by half-unpacked boxes, and unfamiliar silence.
