Emilia smirked. "You're pushing it, Benjamin dragging my husband into this? Well, here's the truth. Daniel isn't yours; he's Anthony's. This is my payback." "The same Daniel with my DNA?"Benjamin laughed! "What... are you saying?" Emilia Surprised! He leaned in, eyes gleaming. "The DNA doesn't lie, Emilia."

Chapter 1 Shattered Heart

It was a beautiful Friday morning. Emilia woke up, stretched, and walked to the bathroom to wash up. As she splashed water on her face, her thoughts drifted to Benjamin. She hadn't been able to reach him for the past few days, and it was unlike him to vanish without a word.

"His line isn't even connecting," she muttered, frowning slightly. "Benjamin's never gone off the grid like this before... maybe he's busy with that business trip."

Emilia sighed as she dried her face. "Or maybe... maybe he's with someone else?" She shook her head, chuckling. "No way, he loves me too much for that."

With a slight smile, she headed to the kitchen to get her day started. Her modern kitchen gleamed in the morning light, every gadget in its place. She grabbed a pan to make herself a quick snack, but as she moved too quickly, her hand brushed against the hot surface.

"Ouch!" she yelped, dropping the pan and examining her hand. "Just my luck." She hurried to her room, found the disinfectant, and carefully dabbed it onto the burn.

"I hardly ever get hurt," she muttered under her breath, "Is this... some kind of sign? I hope Benjamin is safe out there."

Back in the kitchen, Emilia finally set her food on the table. She sat down, but her appetite was gone. She poked at her food, lost in thought.

"Why am I getting so worried?" she wondered aloud. "Maybe it's just because this is his first trip without me? But he could at least call."

After a moment, she picked up her phone again. She dialed his number, and once more, it failed to connect. Her heart started to pound a little harder.

"Alright, this is getting strange... Should I call his friend, Joseph? Maybe he knows what's going on."

She dialed Joseph's number, and after a few rings, he picked up, sounding oddly tense.

"Hello, Emilia," Joseph greeted her.

"Hi, Joseph," Emilia replied, her voice tight with worry. "I've been trying to reach Benjamin, but his line isn't connecting. Have you talked to him since he left?"

"Uh... yes, but..."

Suddenly, loud noises filled the background on Joseph's end. Emilia frowned.

"Are you at some kind of event?" she asked, straining to hear him over the noise.

"No, no, it's... it's nothing," Joseph stammered. "Look, Emilia, I... I don't think this is the right time to talk. I'll call you back, okay?"

"Wait, Joseph, I just..." But the line went dead.

Emilia stared at her phone, letting out a frustrated sigh. "He hung up on me? This is just making me worry more."

She absently touched her injured hand and winced. "What is going on? Is this all a bad sign... or am I just overthinking?"

Finally, she stood up, determination in her eyes. "That's it. I'm going to his place."

With that, Emilia went to her room, got dressed, and left the apartment, her mind racing with questions and an uneasy feeling stirring in her chest.

Emilia reached Benjamin's house, her heart pounding. "Why am I this worried?" she murmured, trying to steady her breath.

"Maybe... maybe I just miss hearing him say "I love you." She let out a nervous laugh.

"Am I really this in love?" She shook her head, feeling a mix of embarrassment and frustration as she walked up the familiar path.

The house looked just as they'd left it. She remembered standing here four days ago, helping him pack for his business trip. They'd laughed, and he'd held her close before walking her to the car. He'd even called her until he reached his destination, but after that... silence.

She'd been calling him for days with no luck. "Even if his phone's broken, he could borrow someone's," she muttered, frowning. Something wasn't adding up.

Emilia knocked on the door, though she knew no one would answer. She sighed, reaching into her bag for the spare key he'd given her. But as she inserted it into the lock, it wouldn't turn.

"What...?" She tried again, jiggling the key, but it wouldn't budge. "Did... did Benjamin change the locks? Without telling me?" Her chest tightened.

"Oh, he's dead," she muttered, half-joking, trying to ignore the strange knot forming in her stomach.

Just then, she noticed Mrs. Jenkins, Benjamin's elderly neighbor, walking by. She waved, hoping to brush off her anxiety.

"Hi, Mrs. Jenkins! Remember me? Benjamin's girlfriend?" Emilia called out with a forced smile.

Mrs. Jenkins blinked in surprise. "Oh... yes, of course, dear! It's been a while, hasn't it? I heard about... well, you know... your breakup. I hope you're doing okay."

Emilia froze. "Breakup? What are you talking about?" She laughed nervously. "We didn't break up. We're still together. He's just been away on business for a few days."

Mrs. Jenkins looked confused. "But Benjamin told us all that you two broke up... some time ago. And, well..." She hesitated, looking uncomfortable.

"And what?" Emilia prompted, her voice catching in her throat.

"Oh, dear," Mrs. Jenkins sighed, shifting on her feet. "Benjamin got married today."

Emilia's laughter died in her throat. "Married? Benjamin? No... no, that's impossible. He would've told me." Her voice was barely a whisper, her mind racing. "I'm his girlfriend. How could he get married when I'm right here?"

Mrs. Jenkins frowned sympathetically. "Honey, I wouldn't say it if it weren't true. He told the whole neighborhood. Some even went to the wedding."

Emilia stared, her face draining of color. "A wedding...? But... to who?"

Mrs. Jenkins pulled out her phone and tapped a few times before showing Emilia a post on social media. There was Benjamin, dressed in a suit, his arm wrapped around a beautiful woman in a wedding dress. The caption read:

"A day I'll never forget. Forever starts now."

Emilia's breath caught. She reached out for support, her hand shaking. "No... this... this can't be happening."

"I'm so sorry, dear," Mrs. Jenkins said softly. "I know it's hard, but maybe... maybe it's time to let go. Sometimes men... they move on quickly."

Without another word, Mrs. Jenkins walked away, leaving Emilia rooted to the spot. Her world felt like it was crumbling around her.

Just then, Emilia's phone buzzed with a new message. She glanced down, and her heart skipped a beat when she saw it was from Clara. The text read:

"Emilia, you never told me you broke up with Benjamin. He just got married! I guess men really do move on quickly. Happy married life to him."

Attached was a photo of Benjamin, smiling broadly in a wedding suit, his arm wrapped around his new bride.

Emilia felt as though the ground had been pulled out from under her. She clutched her head, her fingers tangled in her hair, trying to make sense of the impossible.

"No... this can't be happening. This... this isn't real," she whispered, her voice breaking.

But the proof was right there. The man she had loved, the man she thought was away on a business trip, had been getting married instead. Her eyes filled with tears, and before she knew it, they were streaming down her cheeks.

In that moment, standing alone on the street with her heart shattered, Emilia couldn't hold back the sobs that wracked her body.
