Olivia POV
The club pulses with heavy bass, bodies swaying in synchronized rhythm, their movements steeped in freedom and flirtation. The air is thick with smoke, laughter, and something else-electric, intoxicating, and impossible to ignore.
Everyone seems to be in a state of euphoria, except me. I'm drowning in my own misery, clinging to the bottle like it's a lifeline. My best friend Pamela watches me with a mix of pity and exasperation.
"I hate him, Pam," I mutter, my words slurred as I down the last of my drink. "I hate him so much."
Pamela sighs, her patience clearly stretched. "Olivia, please. Can't we just enjoy tonight? Forget him, just for now?"
Her hand rests lightly on my shoulder, her attempt to comfort me falling flat. Tears blur my vision, and I know she's tired of this-of me. This was supposed to be a night of fun, a distraction from heartbreak. Instead, I'm dragging her down with me.
"I'm done with him," I declare, my voice wavering. "I'll never have his kids. Never..." I hiccup, and the alcohol burns in my throat.
Pam's tone sharpens. "Let it go, Oliviabelle. You're ruining the night."
Her words sting, but she quickly softens, pulling me into a hug. "I just want you to have fun, babe. You deserve that."
I nod weakly, brushing away tears. But the alcohol has other plans; my bladder demands attention. Staggering to my feet, I wobble. Pam reaches out to steady me.
"Where are you going?"
"To the restroom," I mumble.
"I'll come with you," she offers, but I wave her off.
"No need," I chuckle, stumbling away. "I'll be fine."
I navigate through the crowd, the room spinning. The restroom signs blur, but I press on, muttering curses under my breath. "Screw you, Cameron," I whisper harshly, the bitterness bubbling up again.
Finally, I find the door and push it open, stumbling inside. I barely notice my mistake until I see him-tall, sharp, and undeniably out of place. A man zips up his trousers and turns to look at me, his expression unreadable.
"This is the ladies' room," I blurt out accusingly, though I'm not entirely sure.
He raises an eyebrow. "Is it?"
I glance up at the sign and feel my stomach drop. Wrong door.
"You're drunk," he remarks casually, washing his hands at the sink.
"I am not!" I shoot back, though the burp that follows undermines my protest.
He chuckles, a low, infuriating sound that makes my cheeks burn. "Whatever you say."
My pride prickles. "What are you even doing here? Hoping to catch a glimpse of something?"
His smirk fades, replaced by a hard, cold stare. He steps closer, his presence suffocating. "You don't know who you're talking to," he says, his voice low and dangerous.
My back hits the wall, and I freeze. His gaze pierces mine-blue and icy, like a frozen lake that could crack at any moment. He leans in, his breath warm against my ear.
"You called me a pervert. Care to repeat that?"
I shake my head, suddenly sober.
He steps back, a smug grin playing on his lips. "Thought so."
Before leaving, he adjusts his tie, his movements deliberate. "By the way, you should work on your lies. You can't stop staring at me."
I scoff, crossing my arms. "You're not even that attractive."
He pauses at the door, glancing over his shoulder. "Really? Then why's your heart racing?"
His words hit a nerve. I open my mouth to retort, but he's already gone, leaving me flustered and fuming.
Ethan's POV
I lean against the wall outside the restroom, replaying the encounter in my mind. She's fiery, stubborn, and utterly captivating.
I didn't come here for complications, just a break from the relentless grind. But she's stirred something in me, something I haven't felt in years.
When she stumbles back out, her cheeks flushed, I can't resist teasing her. "How about a kiss? Prove you're not into me."
Her jaw drops. "Excuse me?"
"Just one kiss," I challenge, stepping closer. "Unless you're scared."
Her indignation sparks again, but I don't wait for her to argue. My hand finds her waist, and before she can protest, my lips capture hers.
She freezes, then melts into the kiss, her resistance crumbling. The world fades away, leaving just the two of us, caught in a moment neither of us expected.
When I pull back, she's breathless, her wide eyes locked on mine.
"You're impossible," she whispers.
"And you're irresistible," I reply, a grin tugging at my lips.
This night just got a lot more interesting.
