My knees are trembling, and I feel anxiety deep in my heart. I steady my breath and try to calm the panic. I'm being subjected to Auntie Dolly's terrifying gaze, as if I could escape at any moment. I bite my lower lip. If only that incident last week hadn't happened, I would be peacefully living in Auntie's house while cleaning the large windows. "Wow. Your niece is so beautiful. I had no idea that someone as ugly as you had such a pretty relative, Dolly," the newcomer says, tauntingly. I feel the tension between my aunt and the sophisticated woman. My aunt is in her 40s, while the other woman is refined. She catches my gaze with her eyes. She smiles at me and approaches. "Are you Lucy? Thank goodness God didn't make a mistake in making you look like a witch," she sarcastically remarks, glancing back at my irate aunt. She starts doing my makeup. It's clear that they don't get along, but when they do this, it's all sarcasm and passive-aggressive remarks. I turn to the vanity mirror upon hearing a few laughs. The door opens, and Gyra, accompanied by some of her friends in revealing outfits, walks in. She raises an eyebrow when she sees me being prepared and flashes a condescending grin. "Couldn't stand working my job before, and now it looks like you're going to steal it from me," she lazily comments as she slowly approaches. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In just one night, I became the property of someone I didn't know. Or better put, I was bought by someone I never expected to see again. "Is that her?" My heart pounded when I heard that baritone voice. It's familiar. The butler nodded and presented me to his master. I examined the broad shoulders of the tall man. My throat dried up when even his back seemed so familiar. My heart froze, and my stomach turned to ice. S-sh*t. What kind of brutality have I gotten myself into? Unconsciously, I stepped back, my legs trembling in fear. The eyes that were full of concern and love for the child back then were as cold as ice when they gazed at me now. I felt Auntie Dolly's grip on my waist. It hurt, but I didn't mind because of what she said afterward. "I've transferred the deposit and the full payment for that man to your bank account. Perhaps I should remind you of the expensive frame you broke?" I swallowed hard at her threat. I just hung my head. Am I ready to accept the twists of destiny? Did destiny bring me here just to be bought by the incumbent mayor?

Chapter 1 Part 1

I laughed as I followed the two while they were holding hands in front of me. They were talking, but it quickly turned into an argument. I couldn't help but approach Zea and Adren.

"Sorry, okay? I'm a girl, after all. If you want, find someone as beastly as you to understand each other!" Zea said to her third boyfriend of the day.

I winced. Yes, she had a string of boyfriends because she could get them anywhere.

Zea clapped her hands on Adren's cheeks. The guy was about to protest, but Zea dragged me away. Her face turned red with anger.

"What's the problem this time?" I said, holding back a laugh.

She glared at me. "Nothing! I just wanted to pick a fight." I burst out laughing at her words.

"Liar! You only left because you saw Isaiah coming," she suddenly covered my mouth.

I felt someone behind me. And judging by Zea's paling, it seemed her ex was behind us.

I grinned to myself. Tsk.

I heard him clear his throat, so I removed Zea's hand from my mouth and stepped aside. I smiled at our Student Government President, and he returned it. He cast a sharp glance at Zea.

"It seems like you have some issues with your new one, huh?" he said sarcastically, raising an eyebrow.

"Even the smart ones can be gossips, right? But what's it to you if we do have a problem? We'll sort it out," Zea replied.

I chuckled and rolled my eyes. There's no problem; she just picked a fight.

"Why bother sorting it out if you can just break up?" the President said in a snarky tone and walked away.

I was left agape, and so was Zea, her cheeks turning red again.

I pulled her hair playfully. "I think he liked you back then."

"Of course, it was me." She jokingly flipped her hair. "Who can move on from me? I'm so beautiful," she humbly said.

"BUT OMG!! HE STILL SMELLS SO GOOD!!" She blushed and playfully slapped my poor shoulder.

"Hey, stop it, you're hurting me!" I scolded her and flicked her forehead.

She grinned and bit her lower lip, trying to hold back her smile. Crazy.

"I thought you were supposed to forget about him?"

She rolled her eyes. "I thought so too." She chuckled and quickly stopped when someone yelled at us.

"Stop blocking the way!" Gyra shouted.

Zea and I exchanged glances when we realized that my cousin was with her entire group. What does she want now?

"Wow, Lucy, you look like a kite from a distance," she said, playing with the end of her hair.

I didn't answer and just looked at her.

"You're only pretty from afar, aside from your face, what's your joke?" I replied, smirking. What a poor brat.
