Chapter 1 The Incident

ANNA’s POV

Fifteen minutes, that’s exactly the amount of time it took for the robbery to end and I

finally raised my head as tears illuminated my eyes.

Standing up my legs were weak as I sought assistance with the office desk which was

pushed to the corner.

I shuddered and moved back to rest on the wall and get my balance back.

My entire world just stops then.

I place my hand on my chest, pressing my hand on my wild beating heart. It sounded

like it wanted to leave my ribcage.

“This can't be happening” I whisper to myself

Looking at the dressing mirror, my reflection stares back at me, the spark in my eyes

now replaced with deep fears bulging out my socket as goose pimples fell all over my

body.

“Oh my God Anna, are you okay?” Christy, my best friend, asked as she walked into

the now shattered store, she helped me sit down and we both stared at the safe which

is now sitting empty.

“They took the diamonds Christy” I told her and laid my face in my hands.

I shake my head, trying to get rid of the voice speaking in my head, because if i don’t

stop it. It will keep going and I will list all the ways I’m fucked over when my boss

get’s news of this.

“What do we do?” Christy speaks, her voice sounds detached. The hint of fear is

obvious.

She is the problem solver between us both, she has been with me since I came to stay

with my grandmother after I lost my parents at Five.

She is the outspoken one out of our two, she commands attention and finds a way to

fix whatever problem we may find ourselves in, but this was something none of us

anticipated. I mean who anticipates they will get robbed.

“I should be asking that question?” I told her as I took my messed up hair and tied it

up in a messy ponytail.

“Tell Mr. Collins?” She says in the form of a question.

Her green eyes scan me from head to toe as she holds my hands.

“He will kill me Christy, you know how he is, those diamonds are worth a fortune” I

told her

“There is no way you would have prevented a robbery Anna, so he will have to

understand that things were out of your control; anyone in their right sense would

know that” she said, putting her boss tune on.

If this was a different issue, I would totally have faith that she’s got this in the bag, but

this was no child’s play.

I snapped my neck towards her and gave a look that said, ‘Yes he will kill me and you

know it’.

“Everything will be fine Anna, we will find a way to fix this,” she said softly, stroking

my back slowly.

I turned to her, wondering why she was speaking to me like she would a child. Why

the hell are my eyes cloudy anyway?, none of this was my fault; I’m lucky I was left

unharmed.

I tell myself all of this to lessen the fear of what is to come and that is Mr. Collins's

rage. He is a tempered man, and he would rather I lose a foot than his diamonds to get

taken.

“How do I explain this to my grandmother, she would freak out if she learned of this,”

I said and stood up, sitting down wasn't doing me any good.

“Anna calm down, pacing like a crazy person isn’t going to solve anything. Now let's

figure out a way to tell your Boss” Christy told me as she stood to hold me to stay at a

place.

Just as she said my Boss walked in. The look on his face was like that of a cat being

strangled.

“What in God’s name happened to my store” He screamed

“Mr. Collins, the store was robbed,” I told him moving close to him and he raised his

hand blocking me from getting too close.

“What? How hold on” he moves swiftly to where the diamonds oak to be and finds the

safe raked. “My diamonds”

“How did this happen” he yells

“The store was robbed, she just told you,” Christy told him in a cold tone but he

wasn't in for her sassy attitude today.

He looked at me dreadfully and then to Christy.

“You did this,” he said, pointing his index finger at Christy.

“Wow, back off Mr. Collins, I had nothing to do with this,” she said giving me the look

‘Your Boss must be out of his mind’

“Liar, then how is it that you were both together when the said robbery happened,” he

said making air quotes.

“She is my emergency contact, Mr. Collins, I speed-dialled her after the thieves left,” I

told him.

“Why didn't you call the cops to come investigate and see if they could be tracked” he

yells

“I wasn't thinking, I was so frightened; calling my best friend was the only thing I

could think of”

“Well, Anna the cops will investigate this, but I won't accept that this just happened”

“It did happen, you can't stop a robbery; she couldn't do nothing, it's a priority that

she is okay which you don't seem to care about,” Christy told him, and he went off.

“Shut your mouth before I get you arrested girl, you hear me?” he shouted

Mr. Collins might seem like a quiet man but he can be scary when he wants to and I’m

not one to doubt any threats he lays down whether with a joke or with a serious tone.

“I will take care of every additional thing, but you will compensate for those

diamonds,” he said, pivoting to me.

“Mr. Collins please you can't do that, where will I get such money from”

“That's none of my concern, Anna, I told you bringing this friend of yours wasn't

something I fancied, and it's not dwelling well in my spirit knowing she is as this

situation occurred”

“Mr. Collins i…..

“Get my diamonds or reimburse for them before the end of this month”

I watched him leave as I stood there watching my world crack bit by bit right before

my eyes.
