"Remember when I said I forgive you? Guess what baby, I lied." ****** Bree had thought that breaking the heart of her boyfriend, Spencer on that rainy evening was the worst day of her life but her cold and manipulative mother proved her wrong by sending her to a psychiatric hospital as a punishment. Finding out that she was pregnant and escaping the hospital, Bree fled the city to somewhere far away to escape the clutches of her controlling mother and become a free bird. When her little one turned three, she innocently asked, "Mommy, where is Daddy?" "Daddy is no more," she let out the first thing that came to her mind. After five years, Bree returned to the city, this time as an FBI agent and crossing paths so soon with Spencer in an unexpected dire situation was something she never expected. Amid all similarities, the old chirpy vibrant man that she once knew was no more, instead this Spencer was bitter and vengeful. He was hell-bent on making her pay for her decision five years ago. Moreover, how will the morally gray man react when he finds out that they have a child together, especially after his last words to her years ago that still echoed in her ears day and night?
"You have been prohibited by Madam Bennett from entering the Bennett's mansion. Please leave, Miss Marsden."
"I'm here for Spencer. Can you please reach out to him?"
"I'm sorry..."
"I'm not go...going to leave until I see him, Mr." She tried to sound stern.
"Fine. I'll give him a call. You stay here and make sure you don't take a step in, okay?"
Bree nodded. In less than five minutes, she saw Spencer running in her direction and closed the distance between them. His hands fell on her shoulders gently and looked her over from head down to her toes in concern.
"What's wrong, baby? Why are you here all of a sudden? Come this way." He held her tiny wrist and led her outside the mansion's enormous gates.
"I'd no idea you'd show up. Are you hurt? Did your mother hit you again?" He asked, his eyes scanning her body for any trace of injury.
"Let's break up."
"What?"
"Didn't you hear me? I said, "Let's break up."
He chuckled.
"Come on, you know how cute you look when you're angry. I love that pout but put it down. I know you're angry that I didn't text before going to bed yesterday but you see, Mother had me occupied with her work. I'm sorry, okay? Give me a smile." He stepped forward but she backed away.
"I'm not angry because of that."
"Then why, hmm? I'm ready to drop to my knees and apologize a thousand times if that will make you smile."
"Stop saying those words. I just want to break up. I'm fed up with this relationship and I don't want to do this anymore. I've been holding back from saying this for the past weeks but I no longer can. We're incompatible. We..we should go our separate ways."
"What do you mean we're incompatible? We've been dating for years."
Seeing how serious she looked, Spencer frowned.
"Wh...what are you saying? It's me, Bree. It's your Spence. What the hell are you talking about? Look at me, baby. Tell me, did your mother put you to this? Or my mother? Was it my mother?"
She shook her head avoiding eye contact with him. Her eyes were fixated on his chest only.
"Then why? If it's about my mum or our families, we can elope. We'll go far away from this place and no one will be able to reach us. We made a plan already, Bree." He grasped her arms tightly and continued, desperately. "We're going to elope and get married. We'll get married and start a family. That sounds great, right? Just the both of us and our babies in our home.
I told you I'll leave everything for you. Everything. This mansion, the company, my family, Everything. Just say yes and we'll leave. We're in love, Bree."
She broke away from him abruptly, shoving him away so strongly that he staggered back and nearly toppled over. He looked at her as if she was taking his soul away with so much hurt in his heart. He heard his heart shattering into pieces at the words that followed.
"Stop being stupid, Spencer. Stop acting like a child and grow up for once. No, I don't love you, I don't love you at all. I can never love someone like you." She breathed heavily. "You're speaking about eloping to a faraway place, probably a small town, and starting a family. Have you thought of how we're going to survive when we don't even have a job or money?"
"We...we."
"No right? You haven't thought of this."
"I'll do anything to make sure we survive. I'm good at programming. I'll find a small job and we'll survive."
"This is what I'm talking about. I don't want to live in a small house and do menial jobs. I want a lavish lifestyle. I want lots of servants and cars, I want to party and of course, I want a bigger mansion than this. You're too little of a man to achieve these things on your own.
Spencer turned to look at the mansion behind him.
"I found a better man than you. Someone who can afford better things with his own money and not his mama's money."
He shook his head in denial, refusing to believe that the girl before him was the love of his life. This wasn't the girl he knew like the back of his palm. The girl he has spent so many years with. The girl he couldn't imagine his life without. He hurried to her and hugged her tightly as little drizzles of rain fell on them.
"This isn't you, Bree. You don't want these things. You don't want big houses, servants, or gold. You don't want them. Don't forget what we share, Bree. Our love. Please, tell me what's wrong," he cried, little droplets of tears dropping from his eyes.
Bree struggled to push him away and when she finally succeeded, her palm made contact with his cheek he swore it wasn't the slap that caused his tears to flow freely mixing with the rain, it was the thoughts behind the hit and the strange act of the girl that he has known and loved since elementary school.
"Don't come close again. What we shared? You know nothing. There was nothing special about what we shared and the nights we spent together. I only used you for my pleasure. I wanted to see how it tastes. I was only curious, nothing else. You've amused me for a while but I'm bored with you."
"Bree... You love me."
"I was only playing a game with you. I've learned everything I can from you. I can now find a more wealthy man to settle with. I can't love someone like you, Spencer." She took a deep breath. "You know, he's far better than you. Your cousin, Eli. He's way better at everything. Schooling, business, everything." She hit him in the spot she knew it would hurt the most and she knew she succeeded as his lips parted in shock. His eyes filled with tears.
Wiping the tears and rain off her face, she continued.
"Besides, I know you have someone else aside from me. You love someone else and you have been lying all this while too."
"That's not true. You know that I love only you, Bree. I love you with all my heart.
"Doesn't matter anymore. We're adults and I now know what I want."
Spencer shook his head, not believing this was really happening. That the love of his life was going to leave him.
"No, Bree. You can't do this to me. To us. I can't live without you, you know that. Please don't end us this way, love. I love you." He hugged her again, this time tighter than the last time. He patted her hair as she sobbed on his chest.
Breaking away from the hug, he held her face in both his hands.
"We are going to sort this out, okay? I know we can. We are going to find a solution. I can't imagine my life without you. Please, Bree."
Shaking her head, she stepped away from him. She took off the necklace and the promise ring he'd given her on her birthday. Bree let it drop on the floor right before his feet.
"Goodbye Spencer."
He sank to his knees, clutching his chest as it twisted in pain. It was unbearable. His hot tears were washed away with the rain that had managed to make them wet.
They say in life, there are moments you'll always remember. Like the first time he met her at the school's relaxation center. Or the first time they had their first kiss in the rain. And then there was this moment, he would always remember.
As she turned her back to him, he saw his life flash before him. He saw his soul taken away from him and his heart shattering into a million pieces. His pain turned Into anger, her words piercing into his soul. Making sure that she would be able to hear him, he spoke.
"We shouldn't cross paths after this. If we do, you're going to regret it."
