Chapter 1 1

Chapter 1

I fell to my knees on the ground, raised my gaze to the sky, and pleaded with all my being.

Until when? When will the day come when I don't have to endure this irresistible pain because of my situation? Tears began to slide down my cheeks.

She had already been immersed in the anguished search for a job for six months, and the responsibilities gave no respite. And not to mention my little son; Ever since his father left us, taking everything in his path with him, our life has been plunged into absolute chaos, and not precisely because he supported us. His actions were that of a coward without equal!

It was an ordinary afternoon; I came back from work after picking up my little one in the garden.

As soon as I touched the threshold of the mansion I knew that something bad was happening, because the door of the house was open, when I entered, I found the living room empty, I began to walk around the whole place and there was not a single piece of furniture.

My legs threatened to give way, my hands trembled, to the point that I thought I would let go of my little one.

The first thought that crossed my mind was that we were victims of a robbery.

My hands were shaking uncontrollably as I pulled the phone out of my pocket and dialed my husband's number, but the cruel reality was revealed when I was diverted straight to voicemail, a mailbox that was already settled. I left my son on the floor, his heart pounding, and proceeded to check the family bank account, only to find that he was at zero.

This can be nothing more than a joke. It can't be true! I closed my eyes in hopes of waking up from a nightmare, but upon opening them again, I was confronted with the heartbreaking fact that my husband, the man I married, was on the run with another woman. From that day on, something in me faded, and I was never able to fully recover from that devastating blow.

From time to time, I was forced to clean houses to pay the rent for the small room I rented to live with my son and only thanks to the compassion of a neighbor, I got some food from time to time.

Don't ask me at what point I fell into tremendous decline, but a depressed and disillusioned person, especially alone in the world, can hit the worst bottoms.

"What are you doing in the apartment, Mommy?" Elian took me out of my thoughts, I turned to him, who looked at me with confusion, not understanding what we were going through.

"I was praying my heavens." I ran the sleeve of my corroded face to dry my tears.

"Why are you crying, Mommy?" He looked at me confused.

"I'm just a little sad my love," I fixed her nightgown, "don't worry, everything will be alright.

"I don't want you to cry anymore, I'll never leave you like daddy left us," my son rushed towards me and hugged me, a little five-year-old angel, comforting a twenty-seven-year-old woman... For a moment I lost myself in his arms, letting him comfort me and give me shelter.

My son detached himself from my arms and looked at me more calmly.

"Can I turn on the television?" He took advantage of the mischievous

"Yes son, of course I do," I replied smiling to not worry, he ran out and turned on the old television, at that precise moment, the entertainment news was playing.

The great businessman and most sought-after bachelor in the city, is announcing his engagement, one of the saddest news for many women, yes gentlemen, Thomas Mitchell is marrying the great model Aranza Archer>>

When I heard those names, I lifted my head and went to the TV. My son almost changed the news, but I managed to take control of him.

"Wait honey, let me see this news," I stared and smiled, "The great businessman" who was going to think it, my platonic love was getting engaged, and with a woman who looked like a model taken from a magazine. I blushed, although I didn't have to envy another woman, before that one I felt a little inferior.

I regretted not having accepted his claims in college, but I was enraptured with my man, Brendan made me fall in love and I married him very young, my parents passed away and left me a small inheritance, one that he consumed in 3 years.

I continued to look at the TV, and Thomas was better than ever, tall, handsome, full of vitality, his eyes shining and his smile shining, I squeezed my eyes and shook my head.

I called these things I didn't expect from life, I let my son put on his program and continued to prepare some things to sell.

"You have to be alone again honey, mom must sell these cakes so we can eat, okay?" I said to my son as I hugged him.

"Yes, mom, I'll be judicious and won't open it to anyone, go calmly," I was impressed by the intelligence of that angel.

Suddenly, loud knocks sounded on the door of the room, surprised I opened the door, it was the landlady.

"Rous, I can't give you any more time for the rent, it's four months, I want you to leave now!" The woman shouted full of anger.

"Give me a few more days please, I'll go out and sell cakes and I promise I'll collect some money," I begged.

"There are no more days, get out of here!" I felt my heart break and even more so when I saw the terrified look of my little one.

"No, wait Mrs. Tea, I swear I'll get the money, give me just one week, one more please," the woman looked at me hatefully, and made a few signs behind them, and without asking me, some men began to take my things out into the street.

"No, please, no! Help me, please don't do this to me!" I begged inconsolably, my son ran into my arms, but helplessness invaded me, and I couldn't do anything, we were on the street with my few belongings in the pouring rain.

My tears were confused between the drops of the downpour, as I was able to protect my little one, but what we were living was a complete hell on earth, I cursed to myself and at that moment I just wanted to die.

A woman came up to us and held out her hand to me.

"Don't cry anymore please, for whatever is happening, everything must have a solution.

I looked at her angrily as if she was to blame for my problems.

"Look at me, ma'am, what solution is there going to be at this moment?" If we're just on the street

"I would like to help you, but my situation is no better than yours, but I can tell you to have faith, and a miracle will happen, look at this card, it is a foundation very close to here, there they can give you shelter for a few days, do not waste time, go at once.

I raised my head and reluctantly received the paper, the woman left without saying a single word more, so easy that it was to leave the homeless alone; the hours were passing and the cold of the early morning was penetrating Elian's bones, with nothing else to do, I took my few things, drew strength from where I did not have and in a couple of hours we arrived at the foundation.

A woman opened the door and smiled at me, I wanted to do it back, but I was heartbroken, so I just broke down in tears.

"Don't worry! You're not the only one, don't worry." The woman took Elian in her arms, and led us inside, luckily for me there was a roof over my head and a hot meal for us, in the middle of it all I felt grateful. Blessed is the person who made all that possible, because in Manhattan, someone with that big heart, was hard to find.
