Finnley woke up to the sun kissing his skin as he took his bath and got ready for work, going down for breakfast he was greeted with the warm smile of his wife, Luna, and the giggles of their two kids, Jack and Lily.
There was nothing more he could ask for than that, his childhood was nothing colorful like this and sometimes he wondered why he was given a chance to have a place to call home, a place others accepted as his.
He was not the richest in town, nor was he one holder of a special land or property that was worth a lot, he was just an average office worker living in a small apartment in town with his beautiful family he would bet the world to have again.
Breakfast was a chaotic delight, with cereal spills and playful arguments. The kids trying to make the whole lace a jungle of playground.
"Your mum called earlier today", Luna said as she served him
his pancakes and gave him extra honey.
"Cheating", Jack whined while pouting his lips
Luna went to his side and ruffled his hair, "that's no way to
ask for something".
As Jack was about to talk, Lily beat him to it. " Mummy, can I please have some extra honey?" she asked, giving her the best puppy eyes she could make.
"What did she ask for?", he replied with a mouth full of
pancakes as his kids copied him in his actions.
"You know it is almost Christmas, she was like we should come over for the holiday, you know it's been long, she is the only one in the house, and she would need some other warm bodies and two monkeys to warm up the area"
Finnley nodded and continued his breakfast as he scrolled through X looking at some trending news and how the market was flowing. He took notice of a name JACK CARRAFELLO SIGNS HIS NEW PARTNERSHIP, he knew
he had seen the man somewhere, but he could not pinpoint it.
As he kissed Luna goodbye, he felt grateful for this ordinary, peaceful life.
"Tell your class teacher I will come and see her", his voice
was stern and hard.
The sun painted the sky with hues of gold and orange as Finnley stepped out of his modest home in Liverpool. A gentle breeze carried the scent of freshly brewed coffee, and the distant sound of children's laughter filled the air. It was a typical morning, a peaceful start to a day that promised to be ordinary.
But what brought a frown to his face was the fact one of his kids was a victim of bullying and no one in the school bordered talking about it or informing him, it was like they took it as a normal event, what even made it worse was when he realized the kid that bullies his son was connected to this so-called multi-millionaire, Jack. He still remembers the words that keep ringing in his ears, words that made him want to hit a grown man.
"They are just kids"
Just kids that were harming his own, just kids that made his son less lively, just kids that made him remember the past, just kids that made him hate being an average man.
What could he do but hope the class teacher would act like an adult and help him solve the issue? If not, he was surely going to drag the matter to the public.
On getting to the bus stop he met with his best friend, Kai who was always there to pick him up, he wasted no time in getting into the car and sighed loudly.
"What's wrong?", Kai asked his eyes focused on the road,
watching out for his favorite street food stall.
"Nothing much, just Jack and this kid at school who bullies him. His uncle is Jack, and now I don't know what to do. His good-for-nothing teachers seem to already have the side they are on."
Finnley groaned when he felt a sharp pain in his head, it had been happening constantly, it made his eyes turn and drifted him for some seconds as he would feel nauseous and irritated at the same time.
"You need to take a break" "Tell my boss"
Kai parked and held his friend's shoulder, "you are always welcome at my dad's company"
"I know, but thanks for the offer", with that he walked into his workplace. Not up to half an hour, his boss was already on his neck, complaining and telling him to do extra work that was not his to take care of, Finnley was more than angry, he had had enough the whole stress took the best of him and he raised his voice at his boss when he realized what he had done he apologized and went for a coffee break making it very strong and thick as he gulped it down with some pain killers for his head.
He heard the door close and the usual dragging of feet.
"You okay?", his work buddy asked obviously to the fact his colleague was not okay, "your eyes are daamnn red, a tomato would mistake you as it's family.
Finnley chuckled drily and rested his head trying to calm
down, "What can I do? I will sit it out, don't mind me"
"Don't mind you? If I don't mind anyone you are not on that list, you are way more important and useful to this company than you think".
He nodded.
"I would advise you to start stating your worth if not one day the family and peace you are after will visit you beside your bed either to your weak worn-out system or you in a coma".
His last sentence him hard and it made him rethink some decisions he had made as he thought back to what the doctor told him last time about his BP and the stress he was going through.
Sarah, meanwhile, was busy preparing for the day at her cozy little cafe. The aroma of freshly ground coffee and pastries filled the air as she arranged the display case. The cafe was her pride and joy, a place where she could share her love of food and hospitality with the community.
Everyone who visited her café fell in love with it, because it had a sense of home and warmness to it, she made everything with love and also her two assistants. She was not after a huge crowd of customers, but little that would understand her and what she was trying to pass across with her coffee and pastries that all had unique tastes to them.
Jack and Lily walked hand in hand as they headed for their
mother's cafe. They were bright, curious children, eager to
Learn and explore the world around them. Chatting excitedly about their upcoming projects and the fun they had in school, Lily greeted old Sarah who gave her some flowers.
"They would fit Mum" she whispered as she smiled to herself
"I'm so excited for our science experiment tomorrow," Jack said, his eyes sparkling. "We're going to make volcanoes!"
Lily nodded as she focused on the flower and their beauty with the sweet fragrance they had. "I hope they erupt really big"
"Me too"
Lily looked at Jack who was her younger brother, "Did
Rowan disturb you again?"
He nodded while avoiding her gaze.
"He is no little red one at all but a big bad wolf that I will bring down one day".
Jack got excited after hearing one of his favorite cartoons,
"you will save me"
"Yes and be your guiding warrior".
As the children neared their mother's café, she took notice of them when she saw a friend off, he rushed to her side and followed her in as they each ate some pastries till, she packed for the day.
At the end of the day, Finnley returned home, his face flushed from working overtime. Luna was already there, preparing dinner. The children were doing their homework, their soft laughter echoing in the whole house which brought a smile to his stressed face.
As they sat down to eat, the kids begged their mother to tell them a story. She smiled and told them she did do so after dinner.
"Remember when you spilled your coffee on me?" Luna asked, laughing.
Finnley grinned. "How could I forget? You were so mad at me."
"But then you bought me a new coffee and apologized," Luna continued. "And I thought you were the sweetest guy I'd ever met."
The children giggled. "That's so romantic, Mom" Lily exclaimed.
"I know, right?" Luna replied. "Wait for the full story"
After dinner, the family gathered in the living room. Finnley played with the children, while Luna curled up on the couch with a book. As the evening wore on, a sense of peace and contentment washed over them. Luna smiled and began to recount the tale of how she had met their father to the kids.
"Your father was a butterfly who looked upon this poor maiden and gave her a family", she smiled
"Don't mind your mother it is the other way round, I was a butterfly socially, but I did not know how to ask a woman out, she was the first woman to bring words out of my
mouth", he interrupted her.
Lily giggled excitedly, "So who met who first?" "I did", Luna replied
Finnley knotted his eyebrows in confusion, "you did?"
"I never told you but the market where we met each other was not the first place. It was at the theater I first saw you, we sat together, and the lady you poured water on was me"
He was beyond surprised, and his facial expression made the kids roar out in laughter.
"I'm so sorry, I was looking for you that day to apologize but you are gone"
"My clothes became wet and cold"
Lunna described the other days they met, as a chance encounter at a local market. Finnley had been struck by her beauty and kindness, and Luna had been charmed by his gentle nature.
They both met a few times before he spoke the word and
she said "Yes".
The kids begged their mother to tell them another story, but it was already late, and they had school the next day, so she promised them another day, during the weekends when there was no school.
Later that night, as the couples lay in bed, their bodies entwined, they talked about their day. Luna told Finnley about a new recipe she had tried at the cafe, and Finnley encouraged her and told her how he would so much love to taste it.
The night stood still as Luna laid her head on her husband's chest listening to his heartbeat as he caressed her hair and they both washed themselves in each other's breath. Before she knew it he turned her gently and hovered over her his hands finding their way to her waist and tracing it to her face as he held it gently in his hands and kissed her, he started slowly taking it levels higher.
She moaned into his kiss and held onto him her body becoming hot with excitement and her head drowning in pleasure, she wanted more and opened for him, their tongue dancing together as he unbuttoned her shirt and cupped her breast into his hand kneading it gently as he gave it soft kisses, his lips finding its way to mark her body as she arched her backbiting down her moans, her hand found its way to his trouser untying the strings.
They both accepted the moment and worshiped the other body not minding the scars or flaws for everything excited them.
As they drifted off to sleep, Finnley felt a surge of gratitude for the life he had built. He was grateful for his loving family, his fulfilling work, and the simple joys of everyday life. And most of all, he was grateful for Luna, his woman who had brought so much happiness into his world.
Kissing her on the forehead and moving closer to her he also drifted off to sleep.
