Captain Jack O'Brian, an elite US Army sniper, was betrayed by his own unit during a mission in Iraq. Left for dead, Jack survived and escaped, only to discover that his name was tarnished and his family was in danger.
Captain Jack O'Brian crouched behind the crumbling wall, scanning the Iraqi desert landscape through his scope.
His call sign, "Sierra-1," crackled over the comms device.
"Sierra-1, this is Command. Target confirmed Abu Al-Mansour, high-value target from 500 meters north."
Jack's gaze locked onto the target like an eagle over its prey. His trained eyes picked out the slightest movement – a twitch of the finger and a shift in weight.
"Roger that, Command. Sierra-1 has eyes on target", Jack replied.
His rifle, a customized M24 felt like an extension of his body. Jack's finger rested on the trigger with a steady breathing.
"Windage, 2.5 miles per hour. Compensation, 1.2 minutes" he muttered in his head.
The calculations ran through his mind like a well-rehearsed script.
"Clear shot, Command", said Jack.
"Take the shot, Sierra-1", Command said.
Jack squeezed the trigger and the rifle's report echoed through the desert.
"Target down", Jack reported.
The confirmation came from Command, but Jack already knew. He'd seen the target crumple.
Operation Desert Storm had been Jack's fifth deployment. His unit, the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (1st SFOD-D), had been tasked with eliminating high-value targets.
Jack's team, call sign "Sierra," consisted of five men:
1. Captain Jack O'Brian (Sierra-1) - Sniper
2. Lieutenant Tom Harris (Sierra-2) - Spotter
3. Sergeant James Reed (Sierra-3) - Security
4. Corporal Alex Lee (Sierra-4) - Comms
5. Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Jenkins (Sierra-5) - Team Leader
Their mission was clear: neutralize Abu Al-Mansour, a key insurgent leader in Iraq which has just been accomplished.
As Jack took point scouting ahead, his eyes scanned the terrain searching for signs of possible danger.
Suddenly, gunfire erupted from the east.
"Contact! Contact! 3 o'clock!", he shouted.
Jack returned fire, pinpointing enemies position.
"Sierra-2, get eyes on!" Lieutenant Harris
shouted as he scrambled to provide cover fire.
"Sierra-3, fall back!" Lieutenant Harris roared at Sergeant Reed who pulled the team to safety.
But something felt off. Jack made effort to reach Lieutenant Colonel Jenkins as he spoke into his comms device.
"Sierra-5, what's our status?" Jack called out.
Lieutenant Colonel Jenkins' response was garbled.
"Say again, Sierra-5!", Jack said.
The line went dead.
