Ava had always loved the idea of, meeting someone, going on dates, falling in love, and walking down the aisle with her true love but all those dreams is cut short when her dying grandfather made her make a promise to marry Ethan, a total stranger or so she thought, not long into the marriage secrets begins to unravel, challenges start to uncover. It is left to Ava to fulfill her grandfather's wish and stay in the marriage or get a divorce and put Ethan behind, going back to her life of solidarity.
Ophelia stared at the picture frame, smiling to herself happily, Ava was coming today and she couldn't have been more excited, she sat on her big king sized bed which she shared with her handsome and devoting husband Asher Morales, "Morales",she said the name out loud, she had been excited when she had found out Asher's surname when they had been dating, she was glad that she wouldn't have to end their relationship if the name had been something she didn't like so much, smiling at herself for her silly thought.
She knew she wouldn't have left him, even if he had the weirdest surname, she loved her husband, always had, even before he had the courage to ask her out.
Standing up from the bed, she adjusted the blue striped bed sheet she had used on the bed, also running her hand through the duvet to remove any lines. Today wasn't the day to fantasize about her husband and youth. Leaving the room to make sure everywhere and everything had been put in order, she had staff who were in charge of the cleaning and all, but she loved to do the final check, it gave a certain calm, knowing everything had been done how she had asked.
She was done checking the whole house, and was now heading upstairs to change her clothes. Taking a few breaks as she did so, the journey round her house had taken a toll on her.
The house was huge, overly huge, with flight of stairs stipulated at different corners of the house, she loved big houses, another thing Asher also loved , and so they had made sure to make it happen, wondering now if it was a bad idea as she climbed the numerous stairs that led to the upstairs section of the house.
She had changed her clothes and had just made it down the last flight of stairs when she heard Ava calling from the living room.
"Coming honey". Ophelia responded to her, smiling happily once again.
"Granny", "Granny". Ava kept calling out to her grandmother, having not heard her respond to her call.
She turned around to the direction of the only place she was sure she could be in, bumping into Ophelia as she did so.
She had not realized that her grandma had crept up to her, thereby turning abruptly without caution, she heard her grandma laugh out as she rubbed the spot where their head had collided.
She wasn't a tall lady nor was her grandma, although she was a bit taller than her grandma, their heads often met at the same height. She smiled at the old lady in front of her, brushing the tiny head throb aside, pulling the old lady in front of her into a tight embrace.
"I missed you", Ava said, still in the embrace. She couldn't remember the last time she had paid a visit, she had been so focused on work that it had constantly skipped her mind.
Finally releasing Ophelia from the embrace, she scanned the area, looking for Asher, but he was nowhere in sight.
"Busy as always", "isn't he?". Ava asked, looking at Ophelia.
Ophelia smiled briefly, nodding her head yes. "He will be back soon though". She added quickly.
That was something Asher and Ava Morales had in common. They both loved their job or she could say they were workaholics, but she still loved them both.
She found it funny that Ava would complain that her grandfather was working too much, when they were literally the same thing.
Grabbing Ava by the wrist, she led her to the dining area. That was the first event she had planned for the day, knowing Ava, she would have come here not eating anything, giving her a quick scan, making sure she hadn't been skipping meals. She had planned a lot of things that they were going to do that day, so she needed her to be energized and completely filled before they could do the other things she had planned.
The dining table was lined with varieties of food, from seafood platter, caprese skewers, bruschetta bar, spinach and artichoke dip for starters.
Roasted turkey and ham, prime rib, salmon with lemon herb butter as the main course. And many other meals she couldn't begin to mention.
Turning to Ophelia, shaking her head and smiling, she asked, "Are we having a party?"
She knew her grandma could be dramatic when it came to food preparations, but she hadn't been expecting this.
Turning back to her grandma, she whispered a tiny "thank you". Her grandma had put in a lot of effort into the meal and she was very grateful about it.
Nodding her head in acknowledgement she smiled at her.
Ava didn't think she would be able to move from the position she was in, neither did Ophelia, they hadn't known when they had almost finished the meal, because they had been so focused on their conversation.
Struggling to get up, succeeding after what felt like eternity, Ophelia headed to the mini cinema urging Ava to follow her. This wasn't what she had planned as her next event but she knew this was the best option as they waited for their food to digest.
After scrolling through different channels searching for what to use in passing time, they finally settled for a romance movie.
Ava changing the bulb to a calmer shade, setting the mood for the movie.
It started as a mild discomfort in her chest which she shook off as her body reacting to the stress she had put herself through, then she felt very tired and she was left wondering if it had to do with how full she felt.
It came at once, the nausea and shortness of breath, she tried calling out to Ava, when she realized she was finding it difficult to move her hand and she was starting to feel lightheaded.
She was starting to panic, what was happening to her.
Ava looked in the direction of Ophelia to ask if she was enjoying the movie when she saw her struggling, rushing over to her side, she held her in her arms, trying to keep her in a upright position and free the cloth she was wearing, the cloth wasn't tight though, so she was confused on what else to do.
She called out for help, shouting for the house staff and nurse, but nobody was around the vicinity.
This was the first time Ophelia was having such signs so she had no drug available to help her feel better.
Ava was panicking now, she couldn't die, she just couldn't die, she hadn't thought her visit would be the last time she would see her grandma. Tears was starting to stream down her face, which she was fighting so hard to take back, so as not to cause more worry to her grandma.
Resting her grandmother's back to the seat, she ran out, hoping to run into the home nurse, or find something that would help her.
Urging the nurse to hurry, she rushed back to the cinema and to her grandma's side, but she wasn't moving and her eyes were closed shut, she looked like she had dozed off, bringing her hand to Ophelia's nose she checked for air, then checked her pulse, then resting her head to her chest, but everything was still.
She didn't want to believe it, she hoped she was wrong, she hoped she was overreacting.
The nurse moved over to her side, did the same thing she had done, and did some further scan. Turning to Ava who had tears running down her eyes and was shaking her head, hoping the movement would somehow change the words that she was about to say. But that didn't change anything.
"She's dead".
It had been a silent whisper, but it had felt more than that, she felt herself fall and then there was silence.
