The Stranger Beside Me

The U.S ambassador had just returned to the country, it was all over the news. There was so many reporters already waiting for him at the airport while some were already at his house, Ready to ask some questions but he ain't ready for that.

He just wanted to see his best friend.

How many years has it been? Two or maybe three?

No, it's just about three months.

He missed Mike so much that he had to come back home earlier leaving his wife and adorable son behind in the U.S.

Goerge and Mike had always been best friends since they were in college. They were both roommates in their first year having the same major.

At first it was awkward between them but as time passed, they slowly started getting closer to each other.

They would order foods from restaurants and eat together, it doesn't matter who buys the food.

Then they grew into knowing each other's family background, and then slowly themselve's big secrets.

They were like twins and no one could come in between them. They would go for class together, eat lunch together, study together and then go to the dorm together.

They knew everything about each other, including their shoe sizes.

It got to a point some people actually thought they were dating.

They were roommates for four years and even after graduating from college, they were still bonded. They rented the same apartment and lived together for about two years until Mike parents arranged a Fiancee for him and he had to get married.

Goerge also got married not long after and their wives both got pregnant and gave birth the same year but a month apart from each other.

Mike's wife gave birth first..

"Did you miss me bestie?" Mike grinned, pouring the expensive wine into the two glasses of cup that were before them.

"You know I do" George replied with a smile as they both made a toast and took some sips from their wine.

"How is your wife? Has it been two years now? It's been a while since I saw her" Mike was fast to start a conversation.

"It's been Four months, Stop exaggerating"

"Really? Why do I feel like it's been years already, I can't wait to see her and your cute little Son again."

"You know my Son doesn't like it when you call him cute, he said it disgust him"

"Why? I really like calling him cute because he is cute. Now that I think about it, shouldn't we engage him with my daughter? When will they be back from the U.S?"

"They will be back tomorrow, I don't think Chris will be a good pair with Daisy, they are just the opposite of each other" George burst into laughter after saying those words.

He recalled the first time the two met and their parents told them to play together but they actually came back with scars from bitting each other.

It was a shocking and funny moment.

"You are right. They won't make a good couple" Mike scoffed.

The door opened and little Daisy ran in with her mom, Anna behind her

"Daddy" She screamed out loud as she ran to hug Mike

"My little princess, you are back from school? Did you miss Daddy? " Mike carried her on his laps and carassed her hairs.

"Yes" She replied and then noticed George "Uncle" she jumped down from her father's laps and gave George a hug.

"Uncle, did you come with your annoying Son today?" She said and they all bursted out laughing.

Not because of the annoying part but because she was so cute when saying that.

"No, I didn't. Do you want me to bring him next time I'm coming" George smiled.

"No, don't. If I see him near me I'm going to bite his hands again" Daisy said and the adults laughed again.

George phone started to ring, he is a busy person but still made time for his best friend.

"I have to go now, see you later" he stood up.

"Alright, thanks for coming today, I feel really honoured" Anna chuckled

"That's funny. See you later" George said and walked out of the house in haste.

The smile on Mike's face suddenly disappeared and turned to an evil smirk

"What's wrong? What's with the look on your face? It's scary" Anna scoffed, taking off Daisy's sneakers.

"That position should have been mine" Mike grinned and Anna gave him a confused look

"What the hell are you talking about?"

"Anna, don't you wish your husband is the U.S ambassador instead?"

"Why would I wish so when your best friend is already with the position? Why are you spilling nonsense, do you need to rest?" Anna giggled, taking the whole conversation as a joke.

"I need to be somewhere, I will be back soon" Mike took his car key and rushed out of the house.

"What is wrong with Your father? He is acting weird" Anna said to Daisy who obviously has no clue of what is going on.

Little Daisy just replied with a shrug

But even though she's young, she definitely knew something is not right with her father.

"Mom, why didn't uncle bring his annoying Son today?" Daisy asked her mom who was now looking for something to eat from the refrigerator.

"Why are you asking me that? I thought you didn't like him"

"I don't. I am just curious" Daisy rolled her eyes and switch on her favourite cartoon.

"Should I tell uncle to bring him over next time?" Anna asked

"Don't. I'm going to bite him again if I see him here"

Mike drive to Kinn house and was checked severally by the guards before allowed to enter.

Kinn is the prime minister, he was once a course mate with Mike and George back in college but they weren't really that close.

Or maybe, he wasn't close with George.

He never liked George and detest him even more after noticing the girl he likes was actually in love with George.

He never wants to hear his name beside him but he was close with Mike because they were both in a team for a project.

And now that he has the highest position, Mike tries to get more closer to him

"Why are you here again? At least give me a call if you are just gonna show in my house unexpectedly. I'm a busy man" Kinn said and signalled for the bodyguards around to move out so he can have a more comfortable talk.

"I need your help" Mike sighed

"My help? Why? Are we close enough to help each other" kinn scoffed.

"I know we are not close but I really need you to help me this time"

"Okay. Let's hear what you have to say" Kinn leaned his back on the couch and crossed his legs

"You know George right?"

"Yeah, that Son of a bitch I wanna destroy so badly" Kinn grinned.

"And you know his position right now, don't you?"

"What was it again? The U.S ambassador?"

"yeah, that's right"

"And what does that have to do with me helping you?"

"I want that position" Mike blurted out shamelessly.

There was silence in the room for a while before Kinn burst into Laughter.

"You wanna steal your friends position?" He said, still laughing "I really like selfish people like you"

"Enough. Stop laughing, this isn't funny"Mike said so seriously.

"Of course it is. I've never heard of a human trying to steal something from someone he calls his best friend"Kinn's laughing started to turn to a soft chuckle

"I am here because of that so, help me"

"You didn't come here thinking I will be able to kick George out of his position, did you?"

"I know you are in the position to do that"

"I am afraid you came to the wrong person" Kinn smirked and stood up from the couch "I have an important meeting, do excuse me"

"Then, can you tell me what to do instead?" Mike stopped him from leaving

"Of course there is only one thing you can do" Kinn bent in front of him and moved his mouth closer to his ear

"The only thing you can do to get George out of his position is ....... To Kill him"

Mike's eyes widened at the sound of that

Kill George?

In order to become the U.S ambassador instead?

How ridiculous

"How will Killing George get me in this position" he gulped

"Are you dumb or what? Once you eliminate George, they will need someone else to take that position, and trust me,I will do all my best to make sure you get it" Kinn smirked before walking out of the room.

Mike sighed and broke down in cold sweat.

He could feel his hands shivering and his heart beat increased so fast.

But, If killing his friend will bring him that position then...

He should do it.
