"What can I do to make you stay away from me, to make you stop following me?" He asked and truth be told, I didn't expect him to ask that but I then I loved to play this game with him. "Kiss me" I teased him. "Right here, right now" His icy gaze locked with mine. "For how long?" He asked "Hmmm? For a minute, I guess" I said although I was totally messing around with him. I watched as he began to press his phone, then dropped it on the table and stood up. I stood up after him. "Giving up already?" I chuckled. "I knew you--" my sentence was cut off when Darren closed the distance between us and covered my mouth with his. I heard a lot of clicks, like the sound of pictures taken and I heard screams and cheers and claps but they all sounded indistinct because all I was conscious of right now was the feel of Darren's lips on mine. I began to hear a loud buzzing sound and I ignored it, just as I ignored the rest of the world but Darren didn't, he broke the kiss and removed my hands from his hair. The buzzing sound came from Darren's phone. It was an alarm that he set and he turned it off. "One minute is up, Sloane" he said as he smoothed his hair with his hands. He brought his face closer to my ear. "I did what you asked, Sloane. This is the last time I'll be asking you to stay away from me" he said in that low, dangerous tone  "The next time you follow me, I'm going to hurt you" It all began when she hired him as her secretary. Sloane is an arrogant supermodel and a CEO who has never been turned down by any man except her secretary, Darren. But little does she know that Darren is a powerful vampire who is placed on a curse to kill any woman he falls in love with. What will happen when this two conflicting personalities clash in the office? Will Darren's curse end up ruining Sloane's life?

Chapter 1 Prologue

Darren's Pov

I saw her. I didn't want to stop staring. For some unknown reason I just didn't want to stop staring at her. I watched the gentle sway of her hips as she walked towards me. I noticed that her cheeks were slightly flushed as she beamed at me.

I stared at the love of my life as she walked towards me. The woman who'd broken my curse and given me a reason to be a human.

Last night, Zoysia, my creator had revealed to me in my dream that I had just a few weeks to become human. My curse was finally broken and I had no reason to remain a vampire any longer. After more than five hundred years of waiting, Zoysia was finally going to make me human.

Thanks to my love, Ava, I was going to live and die as a human.

A human with a heart.

"Walk faster, Ava" I mouthed at her and she beamed her reply, still walking at a slow, provocative pace.

Ava and I had fixed a date for our wedding and we just finished shopping. I had carried almost all the shopping bags and dropped them in the trunk of my car, while I waited for her to join me.

"Why is sister taking so much time?" Ava's five year old sister, Gracie, who sat at the back seat of my car, asked.

"Wait a bit, darling" I said to her. "Your sister is teasing me"

I wore a deadpan expression as Ava made to cross the road.

She wasn't cat walking towards me anymore, She was trying to help a heavily pregnant lady to cross the road.

I smiled at her warmth and unpredictable personality and I could swear, that was my weakness.

I turned to Gracie. "Your sister is trying to help a pregnant lady to cross the road. She'll be here soon"

Gracie nodded innocently.

As my gaze went back to Ava, who was at the middle of the road with the pregnant lady, I felt a premonition.

At that moment, three things happened simultaneously. A huge truck was speeding uncontrollably towards Ava and the pregnant lady.

Fear was the last thing I saw in Ava's eyes as she pushed the pregnant lady towards me.

"Save her" she mouthed and in a flash, the truck crushed her.

The darn truck driver hesitated a little on the road, then drove off but that didn't bother me.

What bothered me to my bones was my fiance, my Ava was....

I saw red as I caught the pregnant lady.

Ava lay unconscious in a pool of blood. As I took slow, dreaded steps towards her, I listened for her heartbeat but I couldn't hear it. Then I knew she was dead.

And most of all, I knew that she hadn't broken my curse.

I had to live alone with this curse, for eternity.
