Chapter Forty-Two

AURORA POV

I was surprised to see the news on social media concerning Alex and Nora's engagement party. I know that this is the time to let go and let Alex be happy and take full responsibility for his child. I got to the office to see the staff talking and feeling excited about the news and I could see the sad look Nina was giving me, I smiled forcedly at her. I was about to talk a step when someone called my name from behind and it caught everyone's attention, I turned to see Nora.

"Good to see you again". She said as she moved closer to me."well, I won't waste too much of my time with you, but I am here to let you know that it's time to back off, Alex and I are getting engaged soon and it's time to end whatever relationship you are building with him". She said and there was a murmuring coming from the rest staff.

I know they were shocked to hear what Nora said, Nina and Kessy moved to me.

" if that is all, I would like to head back to my office". I said.

"Of course, you may, but before you go, I would love to invite you to the engagement party". She smiles

I stared at her for a while and left for my office with Nina beside me and I could still hear the murmuring of the staff.

👨‍🦱" I knew something was fishy with her and the boss".

I ignored their words and left for my office, I sat down with my head bowed to the ground.

"Don't take it too hard on yourself". Nina said and I raised my face to her smiling.

"Am fine". I wipe off my tears.

" Will you go to the party?".

"I guess, I am Alex's personal secretary, so I have to".

" Am so sorry this is happening to you".She sighs "You know what, I will go with you".

" Thanks". We smiled at each other and continued chatting.

ALEXANDER POV

I came over to Richard's office and we sat down discussing and chilling with a bottle of wine.

"Do you really have to do this?". Richard asked.

" I have no choice man". I replied sipping from my wine.

"What about Aurora?". He asked and I sighed.

" She is the last person I want to hurt in this life, I wish I could run away with her".

"No Alex, I won't advise you to do that and I know Aurora won't do it either".

" What do you have me do? I can't stay away from Aurora, I want her".

"I understand". he sighed."Well I hope things work out well soon enough". He added and we continued drinking

Later in the day, I didn't return to my office, I went back home trying to relax my mind. I freshened up and lay on the bed staring at the ceiling, then I got interrupted by Aurora's call, I sat upright and picked up the call.

"Hello? Alex". She said from the other end of the phone.

" Hey".

"I didn't see you at the office today, is everything okay?".

" If I say yes, will it erase everything, I am getting engaged tomorrow Aurora, to someone I have no affection for, you see, everything is not okay".

"Alex, I am sorry".

" Stop apologizing to me, I should make the apology, I hurt you badly and I regret everything I put you through, I don't want to lose you Aurora". I said sadly trying to control my tears.

"Alex, I know I promise to stick with you". She sniffed." I think is at time we let go".

"What? What are you talking about Aurora?". I asked standing up from the bed and I could hear her sniffing which meant she was crying.

" After your engagement with Nora tomorrow, I think we should call it quit, we will end whatever relationship we had".

"Aurora please don't!".

" I have to Alex, I think I am the reason you are not taking responsibility for your child, i don't want to be the block between your relationship with Nora, Alex I am sorry".

"Please Aurora, don't do this, I can't help it if you stay away from me". I panicked roaming around the room." Please!".

"Alex, am not leaving, I still have days to work with you, I am sorry we have to end this, is the only way, you have a family now, I know what you did was a mistake and I clearly understand, I won't judge you for it, but we can't continue, I don't want anything that will ruin your reputation and your family".

" Aurora".

"I will see you tomorrow". She hung up and I became devastated and I flipped my phone angrily.

" Please don't do this". I grunt in pain and rush out of the room, I enter my car and zoom off.

A few minutes later, I arrived at her house and knocked several on the door until her grandmother came out and I greeted her.

"How are you, my dear?".

" Am fine Granny, is Aurora home?".

"No, she is in her friend's place, and she will be spending a night there".

" Really? What friend?".

"Nina, her colleagues from work".

" Please do you know where she stays?".

"Why? Is everything okay?".

" Yes, Granny".

"Okay, wait a second". She went inside and soon after she came out holding a little paper."Here is the address".

" Okay, thank you, granny".

"You are welcome"

I rushed back to my car and I was driving in the direction, it took me an hour to get to the place because there was too much traffic and the wind was blowing heavily causing it to start raining. I got to the building and knocked on the door under the rain, the door opened and I could see the surprised look on Nina's face when she saw me.

"Sir? Good evening sir". She greeted me with a bow.

"Is Aurora here?". I asked and she nodded. " please I want to see her".

"Alex?". Aurora called and rushed to me ". What are you doing here under the rain? Look at how soaked you are, don't you know you might get cold". She said with so much concern and I caressed her face.

" Please don't leave me".

"Here". Nina said giving Aurora an umbrella, Aurora covered me with it.

" Alex". She caressed my face and wiped off my tears.

"Tell me what you said earlier on the phone, is not true, I might be getting engaged tomorrow, but my heart won't stop beating fast for you".

" Alex, I don't want to be--".

I shut her up with a kiss, I pulled her tight into my arms and caressed her body as the umbrella she was holding fell off and the rain poured down on us. She encircled her arms around my neck responding to my kisses as I deepened the kiss. The kiss was intense and we broke out of it to catch our breath.

"I won't lose you for anything, I will keep fighting for you, all I need is you by my side". I caressed her face and kissed her forehead.

" Alex I---"

I cut him short."Shh, I am not breaking up with you, I remember you telling me to hold tight to your hand and never let go, and I will do that till my dying day". I claimed her lips once again. "I will see you tomorrow". I left for my car and zoomed off.

NARRATOR POV

Aurora became emotional and went inside, Nina came over and gave her a hot tea.

" Thank you". She sniffed and sipped from it.

"He really met what he said, he won't give up on you, he loves you". Nina said.

" I just don't want to be the reason he is not taking responsibility for his child and Nora".

"But he is not complaining, I told you that was a bad idea when you tried to end things with him".

" What can I do?".

"Just be yourself and I know this is just temporary".

" I don't want to face his mother's wrath".

"That is her biz, I know she is the one putting too much pressure on him in marrying that Nora of a girl, I sincerely don't like that girl". She said."You know what, the heart never lies, the heart knows what it wants and the heart wants you, it might take days, but will definitely come back to its own".

"Thank you, Nina". She sniffed

" You are always welcome, come here". They hug each other. "Everything will be fine".

The next day, the party commenced a lot of guests started to troop in, and Mrs. Stella was the one attending to them, the party was held in one of the halls of an exclusive hotel, and everyone was drinking and chatting. Alex and Richard were together talking to some clients.

👤" Congratulations on your engagement".

"Thank you". Alex smiles forcedly.

👤" Your fiancee is so pretty, you made a great choice".

Meanwhile, Nora excuses herself from her family and leaves for the balcony to receive a phone call.

"Why are you calling me? Didn't I tell you not to call me today, don't you know what today means to me". She said angrily on the phone. " Don't call me again, once everything is over, I will let you know". She hung up and sighed before she went back to the party.

Soon after, the party kicked off, Nina and Aurora arrived looking elegant in their wears.

"I guess we made it on time". Aurora said.

" Yes".

"Everywhere is crowded".

" And beautiful too, I wish this was your engagement party".

"Don't be delusional". She said and a waiter served them a glass of drink.

" Hmm, this tastes nice ". Nina said as they continued sipping from their drink.

" You are here". Richard interrupted them from behind and they turned in his direction. he was amazed by their gorgeous looks."Wow! You two look amazing". he compliments and Nina blushed at him.

"Thank you, Mr. Richard".

" You are welcome, you two should enjoy the party". he walks away and Nina keeps drooling after him.

"Will you stop embarrassing yourself". Aurora teased.

" I can't help it, he is just so tempting".

"Don't let him see you drooling over him".

" And if he did?".

"You are something". She said and they chuckled.

" Why are you here?".Mrs.Stella interrupted them from behind and they froze in shock as they turned in her direction.
