Chapter 1 SOPHIA (DIVORCE)

Sophia pov.

"What is happening?" I whispered, disoriented as I woke up in a strange bed.

"Where am I? And where is Brooke?"

I stumbled over my words, trying to make sense of my surroundings. The last thing I could remember was Brooke leading me to a hotel for our honeymoon.

But now, I was alone in this unfamiliar bed and there was no sign of Brooke anywhere.

Throwing off the covers, I stepped onto the floor and felt a scratchy fabric beneath my feet. Looking down, I saw that it was my wedding dress. However, confusion only hardened as I spotted my scattered shoes as if they had been hastily removed.

What had transpired while I was unconscious?

My thoughts were interrupted by the door slamming open, revealing my husband Brooke, and my half-sister, Martha.

"Brooke!" I exclaimed, moving towards him, but he stopped me.

"You never told me you were a harlot, Sophia. So you could spend our wedding night with another man," he accused, his neck veins pulsing with anger.

My eyes widened in shock as I processed his words. How could he think such a thing? How could I ever betray him and spend our wedding night with another man?

"You're lying, Brooke. I would never do that to you," I defended, my heart pounding in my chest.

"You're a lair, Sophia. We knew you'd never admit your failure, but unfortunately, we have evidence to prove otherwise. Your manipulative and deceitful nature is well-known to us," Martha chimed in, pulling out photos of someone who looked like me in bed with another man.

I gasped and covered my mouth with my hand in disbelief. I couldn't believe my eyes. It looked like me, but it couldn't be. I loved Brooke with all my heart, despite his lower status, financial standing, and popularity. Why would I choose a stranger over him?

It was clear that Martha was trying to ruin my reputation as the CEO of SILICON by using these fabricated photos.

However, the question remained: where did she get these photos? And why was she trying to destroy my marriage?

"Do not believe her, Brooke," I pleaded, my voice quivering. "It was a setup. I did not spend a night with a stranger. Please, believe me."

Sophia spoke, her words sending shivers down my spine. "Yes, Sophia, it is you in these photos. You are a harlot. You only chose to marry me to make me a simp. I am divorcing you right away!"

"What?"

"Brooke! How could you file for a divorce just one day after our wedding?"

Was I dreaming?

"Yes, Sophia. I am filing for a divorce," Brooke reaffirmed his words carrying a weight that pierced me to my core.

Martha shot me a subtle smile, almost like a taunt. She then pulled out a paper from her bag and handed it to Brooke, who snatched it from her and threw it in my face.

"That is the divorce agreement, Sophia. Sign it," Brooke spat, throwing the paper at me.

As I stared at the divorce paper on the floor, tears brimming in my eyes, it felt like the universe was conspiring against me. The CEO of one of the most prominent companies in the city, and yet I was being devalued by an ordinary man whom I had clothed and fed out of love.

I never knew love could make one so foolish, but now I understand how it can cloud one's judgment.

If handsomeness were a person, it would be Brooke. I think that is what initially drew me to him. I thought he would appreciate my efforts and give me the love I deserved, but all I got in return was a divorce paper thrown in my face.

Bending down, I picked up the divorce paper from the floor. I glanced at Brooke one last time, hoping he would remember the eyes he had lied to and reconsider, but he was not. I was standing right in front of him, but he was not seeing me. His once charming eyes now sent a chill down my spine.

I boldly signed my name on the paper and let it float away in the air. I couldn't believe this was happening to me.

I signed boldly on the column provided on the paper and allowed the paper to flow freely in the air. I couldn't believe this was happening to me. How do I want to contain this shame? I'd be the only person who was divorced a day after her wedding.

" Good, Sophia. I can't wait for you to step down as the CEO of the SILICON enterprise so I can step in," Martha spoke.

" Martha, I thought you loved me. I thought you were like a sister to me. What have I done to you?" I asked as an abundance of tears cascaded down my face.

" Not at all, Sophia. I don't love you. You're a threat to me and my mother. The CEO's seat belongs to me, not you," Martha yelled at me. It was seen how much Martha hated me.

Martha had always wanted to replace me as the CEO of the SILICON enterprise, but how on earth Is that possible?

Martha was my stepmom's daughter. She wasn't my father's biological daughter and she wanted to be the CEO of the company. Wasn't that stupid enough?

Martha and I were once best of friends not until I was appointed as the CEO of my father's company, SILICON. Her mother instigated her to hate me and claim the CEO's position, and ever since then, she has hated me.

" I don't want to see you in my entire life again. Disappear like a cloud of smoke and never return," Brooke pronounced emphatically, causing my heart to bang more in my chest.

" And for your information, Sophia. Brooke is now mine, and mine alone," Martha spoke and moved closer to Brooke. Brooke grabbed her by her waist and they looked into each other's eyes and smile.

" Brooke is yours? How on earth could you snatch your sister's husband just a day after her wedding?" I asked at the top of my voice.

" Point of correction, Sophia, I didn't snatch your husband. We both chose each other," Martha responded and kissed Brooke.

The tension in my body rumbled to my hands, and I gripped the duvet around my waist with my teeth gritted in agony as they both mocked me.

Brooke and Martha kissed right in front of me for some minutes while I rooted on my spot and faced the cruelty of love.

They laughed mockingly at me and they walked out of the room with their hands fidgeted together. Now it occurred to me that it wasn't a prank. It was real. I had just been divorced a day after my wedding.
