Evelyn was her father's biological daughter, but she was always treated badly by her stepfamily. Her fat body became the subject of insults from everyone around her. However, everything changes when she meets Jesper, a handsome widower who is also the CEO of a large company. So what happens to them?

Chapter 1 Dismissal letter

Evelyn looked at the dismissal letter on the table blankly, then crumpled it. The letter wasn't just a dismissal; it was the final nail in the coffin of the injustice that had been pounding her since childhood. Where else would she turn for help? Benedict, her half-brother, no less-he certainly wasn't going to help. As CEO, Benedict had the power, but more than that, he had a deep hatred for her.

"It's not fair..." she whispered bitterly under her breath. Her head bowed languidly, and for a moment her eyes stared at her reflection in the mirror at the side of the room. Her fat body was reflected there, reminding her of the hurtful words of some office colleagues. They considered her unworthy just because of her physical appearance. She was the biological daughter of the company owner, but they were completely okay with it.

Behind all this, she knew who stood behind her. Her step-family. Ever since she was a teenager, her stepmother and Bianca, her half-sister, had always seen her as a threat. Evelyn laughed bitterly. "I am the daughter of your late first wife. Shouldn't I have equal rights in this family?" she muttered.

However, the reality was different. Her stepmother and Bianca had always looked down on her, considering her more of an obstacle than a sibling. They threw slander after slander at her father to make him look bad. And they succeeded. Dad slowly changed, no longer caring about Evelyn, as if she was no longer his biological daughter.

"I shouldn't be a threat," she thought, wringing her hands. "Bianca... what's missing in her? Beautiful, popular, a famous model and fashion designer. She has everything."

Evelyn bit her lip, holding back the anger and hurt eating away at her heart. Her fat body felt like a curse. She knew she was different, and she knew exactly what had always made her stepfamily so wary-her talent for fashion design. Her stepmother realized that Evelyn was just as capable as Bianca, maybe even better.

Why her?

Why not Bianca?

Evelyn's talent as a fashion designer is quite threatening to her daughter's career who is also a fashion designer and a well-known model.

After all, Bianca was the symbol of perfection that everyone aspired to. A slim and tall body, glowing skin, seductive blue eyes. Even Ernest, her fiancé, was often surrounded by women who admired him, but still chose Evelyn.

At least, in her lover, she found a glimmer of hope. Ernest was the only person who accepted her for who she was, no matter her body shape or reputation. He was the one who always made Evelyn feel meaningful, feel worthy of love, and that was what strengthened her all this time.

Even though Evelyn had to sacrifice a lot, paying for his college until graduation, finding him a place to live, and now, Ernest has become a manager in a big company, with a sizable salary as well.

The struggle was not in vain for Evelyn.

Disappointed, she walked away from the company. Even to ask for justice, she was too tired, it was time for her to rest, to enjoy her life, as a woman who was about to be fully married.

Just before she reached the exit, she bumped into someone and a briefcase fell out. "Can't you watch where you're going!?" Evelyn looked up as soon as she heard the man's voice.

It was Benedict. He bent down and picked up her briefcase. Before she could say anything, he spoke, "I hope you get that letter. Don't ever come back to this company again. I know you cannot survive without this company."

She swallowed the apology that was about to come out of her mouth and looked at him angrily. "I can show you my life without your help, so I don't need your mercy!" she replied angrily.

Benedict looked at her surprised as he had never been like this before. She was always silent no matter how she bothered him. There seemed to be another woman standing in front of him. Where was the Evelyn that he knew.

He chuckled and replied, "I seem to have forgotten that you have a rich future husband now. Are you going to run to him for help? Are you sure he will help? I don't think so, he'll just dump you like trash! Because that's what you deserve."

Evelyn looked at him angrily and said, "He's a very reliable man unlike you!" She could tolerate anything against her, but she would not tolerate a single bad word spoken against, Ernest. He was the only one who was always there for her.

"That's good, and I hope you never come back here to ask for my help, until you cry blood I won't help you!"

"I assure you that will never happen!" he replied and left.

Arriving at the company garage, he sighed in frustration at all the fancy-looking cars and only his own car seemed to be an eyesore.

As he was about to walk to his car, he saw Benedict's new Porsche parked in a secluded spot. He walked up to the car and grinned when an idea popped into his head. Looking around, he found a rock that was big enough to do considerable damage. Then he walked up to the car and hit the rock a few times, denting the car.

"From now on you'll know who I really am, damn it!" Said with a snarl.

Satisfied with the state of the car, he hurriedly dropped the stone away from the scene and rushed to his car. He left to go home to his apartment which was now in place by Ernest.

Arriving at the apartment, right where Ernest and herself lived, Evelyn who expected to find comfort, in fact did not find comfort as expected. As she approached the door, there were voices from inside, very familiar voices, but this time there was something different.

"Ah, Ernest, I like it. Faster" said a woman, in a passionate tone. Evelyn wrinkled her forehead.

"Honey you're great, I'm really satisfied, I'm proud to have you" a man's voice sounded faint yet so familiar in Evelyn's ears, she couldn't help but feel surprised.

"Ernest? That's Ernest's voice what is he doing, is he having an affair?" thought Evelyn uneasily.

"You too, darling. Thank you, because of you, I can achieve all my desires," replied the woman in a spoiled tone that instantly made Evelyn's blood rush.

"Of course, I will do anything for your happiness. Moreover, just a matter of design, that's an easy thing for me. Evelyn will prepare everything for you, she won't suspect anything," Ernest answered so calmly.

"What? So they've been using me all this time? This can't be allowed!"

Brak!
