After enduring a cold and suffocating marriage for three years, Bella finally realized that she was merely Mason's nanny and sexual partner, never receiving the love she deserved as a wife. Their marriage was nothing more than a cold contract. She needed money for her mother's medical treatment, while Mason needed an obedient and beautiful girl to marry as a way to avoid an arranged marriage set up by his parents. However, only Bella knew that she truly loved Mason, deeply, but no matter what she did, she was met with Mason's indifference and neglect. With the three-year contractual marriage coming to an end, Mason planned to reunite with his college sweetheart, while Bella was to leave Mason and start a new life. But it was only when Bella actually left that Mason realized he was heartbroken; he truly loved Bella and couldn't live without her. He then began a relentless pursuit to win Bella back.

Chapter 1 Loveless marriage

After a day of intense work, Bella was utterly exhausted, feeling as though her body could fall apart at any moment. She ate dinner alone, showered, changed into her pajamas, and lay down in bed early to rest. Due to her extreme fatigue, she quickly fell asleep.

In her dreams, she felt a hand caressing her body. At first, she didn't pay much attention because she was so sleepy. Gradually, though, the sensation grew stronger. Bella woke up but remained still. She knew it was her husband Mason, who had returned. He always seemed full of energy, like a lion.

"Mason, I want to sleep for a while. I'm too tired," Bella pleaded, pushing his hand away. She tried to open her eyes, but her heavy eyelids made it impossible.

"Don't move," Mason insisted, ignoring her protests as he persisted in his own way. He was always domineering, never considering Bella's feelings or asking if she was willing.

Bella loved Mason deeply, unable to extricate herself from her feelings. She didn't want to refuse any of his demands, so she stopped speaking and passively accepted everything, letting him do as he wished. Even though she was tired, she wanted to do her best to satisfy him.

Mason didn't care how long it took or how she felt. Once he was done, he went to shower without a word of acknowledgement.

They had been married for three years, during which every interaction between Bella and her husband was reduced to sex. It seemed there was no communication beyond that. Every time, Mason would press on, regardless of Bella's willingness, while Bella tried her best to meet his sexual needs.

On the bed, the sofa, the floor, the bathroom, the kitchen, the car, and even in his office, she fulfilled his intense sexual demands whether he wanted oral sex or to release in her mouth. Bella always believed that since she loved her husband, she should satisfy all his needs.

However, sometimes Bella felt she was more like Mason's sex toy, a tool to vent his desires-unnecessary to care for or cherish, just used when needed and discarded afterwards. Every time these thoughts crossed her mind, a sense of loneliness and pain would fill her heart.

Bella had married Mason to pay for her mother's enormous medical bills. They each got what they needed-Bella needed money to save her mother, and Mason needed a compliant, beautiful wife to placate his parents. Thus, their three-year contract marriage began.

Yet, Bella genuinely loved Mason. Naively, she thought three years would be enough time for Mason to fall in love with her. But three years passed, and nothing changed.

Mason was the world's leading spine surgeon, with numerous patents in spinal surgery equipment and shares in several private hospitals inherited from his family. He was both a doctor and a boss, easily earning billions of dollars annually.

He was wealthy, handsome, standing at 1.9 meters tall with an athletic build, thick black hair, and deep blue eyes, his face like a sculpture-nearly perfect. Back then, Mason was already an outstanding specialist while Bella was a newly graduated teacher. They met at a chance gathering and felt mutual attraction, which led to their contract marriage.

Resting on the bed for a bit, Bella listened to the sound of water in the bathroom. Mason's plane landed at three in the afternoon, yet he returned home now, at midnight.

Before long, Mason emerged from the bathroom and moved to the other side of the bed. The mattress sank slightly as a corner of the quilt was lifted. Bella caught a faint scent of freshness. The bedside lamp cast a dim light that didn't reach the bed, and the night was so quiet they could hear each other's calm breathing.

The two of them each occupied half of the bed, as if separated by an invisible wall. Aside from making love, there seemed to be no communication between them.

After laying there quietly for a while, Bella looked at Mason, whose profile resembled a sculpture.

"Are you asleep?" she asked.

It was quiet in the dark, and Mason's voice sounded a bit impatient, "Turn off the light! Rest!"

Bella switched off the bedside lamp, plunging the room into complete darkness. She quietly picked up her pajamas and underwear from the floor and walked into the bathroom to shower.
