Melissa’s POV

“Now I know you don’t like him but your 18th birthday is coming up in three months and there is no escaping your fate”mum put her hand on my shoulder and squeezed lightly, “look, as far as he’s your mate, you will learn to love him plus the mate bond will pull you closer together”

“Mum, I know” I muttered under my breath

“That’s all you have to say? You should learn to speak your mind more often, let me know your thoughts” she had a worried look on her face as she cupped my face in her hands.

How could I say it? I don’t want to be mated to that arrogant prick, Damian. I would rather be mated to his kid bro even though he is like ten years younger than me. We could make it work...I think . I was prophesied to be the Luna, that doesn’t mean I am mated to Damian...right? Yeah, who am I kidding?

Everyone who knows Damian must feel really bad for me since I am the unfortunate she-wolf who is going to be his mate, that’s why my mum is really nervous since my 18th birthday is coming up pretty soon. She along everyone else is hoping that when we are officially mated, I could change Damian for the better. I roll my eyes at that thought, that’s mission impossible

“You’ve zoned out on me” my mum pulled me out of my train of thoughts pulling my attention back to her. I could see the worry in her hazel nut eyes, my mum was in her late thirties but she could pass as my sister anytime. Her ebony black hair fell in wavy lengths and rested on her back, she had high cheek bones with a well sculpted nose resting proudly on her face. She could easily be mistaken for a model, luckily for me, I was a spitting image of my mother. The only difference between us was our attitude, my mum was very chatty, she talked on and on while me on the other hand barely managed to let words escape my lips.

“Look, you have nothing to worry about, okay?” She assured me, actually to assure herself more. It was easy to tell who was more worried in the room. I gave my mum a warm smile and hugged her tightly, she clasped her arms round me and pulled me closer as if she never wanted to let me go.

“Okay” she pulled away briskly from me and held my face in her hands, “you better be off to school before your late

“I love you mum”

“I think fireworks will do, what do you think?”

“Huh, sorry I didn’t get you” I was brought back to reality by the sound of Ivy talking, I wasn’t really sure what she was talking about but I could take a good guess that it was about my birthday party. She has been talking about it since I turned seventeen, it’s not like she loves planning parties or that she is devoted to seeing me happy, she’s just excited to be friends with the Luna. I know it makes her look shady but trust me, there is no other person you will want by your side when times are tough.

“Earth to Luna ” she snapped her fingers in my face

“Yes, fireworks will be nice but can I ask for what exactly?”

“For your party silly, now I’m thinking it will be after you are officially announced as the Luna ” she babbled on non stop but I didn’t care. I liked listening to her chatters, she was like a bubbly chatter box with an infectious smile always playing across her lips whenever she was rambling on about anything than was anything

“Can’t you ever shut up” a brunette girl with her hair tied in a ponytail walked up to us

“Oh Linda, you finally remembered us, I thought you were too busy with your new mate”, Ivy said haughtily and she folded her arms on her chest and placed her lips in a pout making her look like a child denied candy

“How could I ever forget you guys, your my family” she put her arms across both I and Ivy pulling us into a group hug. Linda found her mate some weeks ago, Connor. They are really a perfect match unlike I and Damian. She has been spending so much time with him lately and since he is 25 and comes from a different pack, she has been distant making our friendship group seem hollow.

“So, what are you guys talking about?” She asked, finally releasing us from her hug

“Well, if you must know, we were talking about serious pack matters” Ivy said, clearly still angry with her

“Pack matters like Melissa’s 18th birthday which, no surprise there, is being planned in a grand style with every body eagerly awaiting to see the fulfillment of the goddess’s prophesy. That serious pack matter?”

“Look, my birthday is like three months away and you know I don’t want to think about it”their eyes softened at my words

“We know how you feel, we are sorry. The mate bond can change anybody, trust me” Linda placed a sympathetic hand on my shoulder

“You know what? We should have a small party, just the three of us. It will be like a pre-birthday party party” Ivy chirped happily

“Thanks, I would really love that” I smiled at her.

See, she can be really nice.

“Cheer up girl, you’re about to become the luna of the crescent moon pack, that’s something to celebrate” Linda shook my shoulders with a bright smile on her face, her words made a smile to creep slowly onto my face.

The bell rang signaling the beginning of classes. We headed of to class together going since the three of us shared the first period which was English. Classes went smoothly although I didn’t share some of the classes with my friends, now it was time for lunch and man, I am really hungry.

In the cafeteria, I could see students sitting in groups, my eyes searched the room fro my friends, I spotted them seated on a table by the side and proceeded to make my way up to them with my tray of French fries in hand.
