Being rejected many times made me hopeless. But what if an Alpha claims I am his mate?

Chapter 1 1

Stay

"Are you going to bite Thomas?" Charlotte asks Oliver, who is leaning against the doorway as we all stand inside the police station. "You're going to bite Thomas?"

Oliver mumbles back, "To get him through the rift," at this point. In order to go closer to the officer's desk, he stops leaning against the doorway and begins strolling toward it. To our good fortune, the station wasn't occupied by anyone other than the pack.

In order to clarify, Oliver says, "It's the only way."

The question is posed by Mateo as he makes his way towards the desk where we are all seated. "Just to clarify, are you planning on biting everyone in the train station?"

I used to have a close relationship with Mateo, much like I did with Alexander. However, as he transformed into a psychopath who committed mass murder, that relationship was severed.

While Oliver is going at the plan that is resting on the table, he comments, "Now that Thomas is back, he will be able to assist us in formulating a strategy."

Eloise adds, "He's good at that," as Mateo goes past, and I nod my head in agreement with her statement. His ability to plan had always been strong.

For the second time, Mateo asks, "So the plan is to get Thomas to come up with a plan?" I roll my eyes in response to his question.

Exasperated, I say, "Please shut up," and he smiles at me as he focuses his attention on me.

"Harriet, when you were younger, I used to be your favorite. What happened?" he asks with a smug expression on his lips. "What happened?"

When I think of what Kate Benjamin had done to the Hattie family, I let out a sigh and say, "Kate Benjamin happened." A number of the people who were closest to me and to whom my family was directly attached were murdered by her.

As he whispered, "You're not totally wrong."

In continuation, he says, "Listen, we are the only ones left in Anaheim Hills. If they take us, Charlotte will be the only one left to haunt the place." Charlotte rolls her eyes in response to his comments, and he motions to her.

"That's why I'm the only person that's going in. James, Harriet, and Adam are staying here with Cole. As long as somebody is left in Anaheim Hills, the wild hunt can't move on." Oliver elaborates on a component of the strategy. Considering that one of the alphas was going to be leaving for the Wild Hunt, I was planning on staying here because it would be in my best interest to do so.

The words "I like your plan, Oliver. I really do, especially the part about turning Thomas." are spoken by Mateo as he walks back and forth. "But it can't work."

Eloise asks her father, "How do you know?" this question.

"Logic. Life experience. James, what are the odds he gets taken? What if Thomas isn't there? What if there's no Anaheim Hills for you to come back to?" Mateo continues to pontificate. A portion of what he is saying is something that I agree with, but not all of it.

My eyebrows are furrowed as I ask Mateo, "There's going to be a Anaheim Hills when he comes back. I'll be here along with James. In addition, do you have a better idea?" I question him while furrowing my face.

After a little pause, he says, "Yeah. It's called run like hell." I just roll my eyes.

As he finishes his sentence, he asks, "So, leave in five?" I scoff and then switch my attention back to the paper that is in front of us.

Eloise walks over to her father and delivers the following statement: "You promised you'd help us. We still need to find the rift."

Eloise is whispered to by Mateo, "I didn't promise to help you commit suicide," as Mateo says to her. Wow, he looked like he was truly going to be a father to his child.

According to Oliver, who is participating in the conversation, "If you can't help, we can find it ourselves."

As Mateo looks past Eloise, he turns his attention to Oliver. With a smug expression on his face, Mateo says to Oliver, "I admit that you have a knack for beating the odds. However, this is something that you don't walk away from." Mateo is strolling back towards the doors.

He says, "You run," and then he turns around and walks out the door. "You run."

My eyes roll when I do so. I cry out his name, "You don't deserve the last name, Hattie!" in the hopes that he will recognize it. I take a look at Eloise and notice that her eyes are filled with anguish as she realizes that her father has broken his commitment to her.

I say to Lia, "Trust me, he's always been a dick," while rubbing my hand on her shoulder. "He's all the same."

When I finally manage to pull my head away from the metal bar, I let out a groan and say, "I really wish we were home right now."

He makes the statement as he sits on the opposite side of the cell and says, "Me too, princess."

All three of them, Charlotte, Oliver, and Eloise, had already left, and I had no idea when they expected to return. Therefore, for the time being, I am in charge.

"It would be a lot more comfortable than an old cell," I add as I turn to gaze at him and reposition my head against the cell. There is a significant difference between the two. As soon as I hear the main doors of the station opening, I gaze directly into his eyes.

I rise up and say, "Adam and Cole are here," and he says the same thing immediately after me. As I left the holding area, I let out a sigh and glanced around. I see Cole and James sitting on the bench, and Adam is looking out the windows.

After noticing that James was holding the sword, I let out a sigh and proceeded to approach them. She poses a query to James: "So we should stay here. Is that what you're thinking?" However, I make my appearance.

I let out a sigh. In a smug tone, I say, "Yeah, that's exactly what I'm thinking." I've never had any feelings for this girl, for whatever reason. It seemed to me that she was overly spoiled. However, whenever I was in her presence, I kept a nice demeanor.

James adds, "It doesn't matter where we are; we still need to figure out how to fight them," and Adam walks up to sit next to him on the bench. "It's not as important where we are right now."

I turn to Elijah and beg for assistance so that I don't have to give a speech. Adam says, "No one can fight them," and I have no choice but to do it.

He gives a slight nod of his head. He chirps, "Douglas can." I mouth thank you, and he smirks slightly. "Douglas can."

The teenagers raise their eyes to Elijah. A question that Cole asks is, "Does he have to remain inside?"

I heave a sigh and do a head nod. "Oliver thinks it's safer. I wish he didn't have to; my head hurts after laying against the bars." I am grumbling. Cole gives a slight nod and glances over at me.

Adam responds, "He's still Elijah," and I roll my eyes in response to her comment of that nature.

"He did save my life, you know? Kind of had a hole in my stomach," I add, forming a hole with my palm as they all look over. "He did save my life." Having recalled the picture, I utter the words, "Very large and very bloody."

When I hear my favorite arrogant voice, they all frown in consternation. "Elijah also saved Oliver. Remember?" he chirps as he leans on the jail bars. "Remember all of this?"

Cole tells me, "He can still hear you," and I throw him a look that expresses my confusion.

"Supernatural hearing," I add, pointing to my ears as I state my claim. A grin appears on my face as I say to Cole, "We can hear literally everything." He laughs.

Adam cries to Elijah, "Then he can also hear me say he needs to shut up so that we can figure out how to fight the Ghost Riders," while peering behind me, who is resting against the doorway. "Then he can also hear me say that he needs to shut up."

Just as I am about to say something, I glance over at Elijah, and his eyes tell me that he already has it. "You don't need to figure it out." According to him.

As James responds in a quiet voice, "Because Douglas already did," he explains. I stare at him out of the corner of my eye.

"If he knew how to fight them, then he might know everything about them," according to Adam.

I grin to myself as I redirect my attention to Elijah. While he is putting his hands through the bars, he asks, "And guess who knows everything there is to know about Mr. Douglas?"

Each of the teenagers in the group sighs as they look towards Elijah. In the process of walking towards his cell, I lean against it with my back to it. He is standing next to me, staring at the group as they get up from their seats and walk over.

As soon as Elijah sees James walking over with the sword, his jaw tightens, and his entire body tenses up. This is just the beginning of the tension. I reach out and take his hand in order to help him relax a little bit.
